Private Detective: Lexington Man Points Gun During Road Rage Incident

Investigators have arrested a Lexington man in connection with a road rage incident involving a gun.

Thomas Moyer, 53, has been charged with wanton endangerment, DUI, and carrying a concealed weapon.

“I can’t believe it. I’ve seen road rage and this is unbelievable,” Matthew Viola, the alleged victim told LEX 18’s Josh Breslow on Wednesday.

Viola said he was driving from Knoxville to Cincinnati, Tuesday evening, when a man in gray Ranger cut him off along I-75 near mile marker 69, nearly causing a wreck. Viola said the driver of the Ranger then pulled up beside him, pointed a gun at him, and sped away.

“You’re going 70 miles an hour and you point a gun at a guy on the interstate? That’s freaking ludicrous, I think,” Viola said.

Following the Ranger for about 14 miles, Viola said he stuck with the vehicle until it parked at the Cannon Corner Marathon, off of the Duncannon Lane exit.

“If he pulled a gun on me, who knows what he’s gonna do? You know, I’m just thinking what if there’s an innocent little family, you know, riding down the road?” Viola said. “I was by myself, but I thought, what if this guy goes nuts and starts firing shots or something?”

Officers with the Richmond Police Department said they searched Moyer at the Marathon station and found a handgun and six rounds of ammo. They said Moyer even admitted he’d had a few beers, earlier, and that he takes Oxyconton and Oxycodone, daily.

“I’m just happy that he got caught and nobody got hurt,” Viola said.

Moyer bonded out of the Madison County Detention Center on Tuesday. He is expected to be arraigned on April 14.
