Wrongful Death Third Person Arrested in Connection to UK Student’s Murder

Lexington Police have arrested 17-year old juvenile in connection to Jonathan Krueger’s death. The juvenile has been charged with murder. Police said they do not anticipate more arrests in the case.

On Friday morning police charged Justin D. Smith, 18, with murder, robbery, tampering with physical evidence and fleeing and evading in connection with the shooting.

Efrain Diaz, 20, of Lexington, was arrested Friday afternoon. He faces charges of murder and robbery in the 1st Degree.

Krueger, a University of Kentucky student, was walking with another person on East Maxwell when the shooting occurred during a robbery.

Officers were called to the scene early Friday morning and found the victim lying in the street. He was transported to UK Chandler Hospital and pronounced dead by the coroner at 2:35 a.m. Friday.
