Private Detective: Two Shot in Pulaski County

Two Pulaski County men are recovering after being shot Saturday night. But police say their investigation has hit a wall since many of the people who may be witnesses are not talking about what happened.

“Hopefully it don’t happen again, and hopefully a whole lot of people didn’t get hurt or anything.” said resident Jason Randell.

Police say 69-year-old Johnie Wardrup of Tateville, and 26-year-old James Mankin of Somerset, were both flown to UK Hospital with gunshot wounds.

While police don’t know who shot these men, they do know it was a group of motorcyclists who came to America’s Best Value Inn Saturday night and opened fire.

“It’s kind of scary when you have kids and stuff, and you know everything is getting worse lately than better,” said Randell.

Craig Collett, a motorcyclist who’s from Somerset, says he’s familiar with the motorcycle groups in the area and doesn’t think they’re the ones behind the shooting.

“We get a bad rep because of the side they show on TV but that ain’t me anyway,” said Collett.

Some who are very familiar with this area say these kinds of things don’t typically happen at this motel, especially since it’s so close to a very busy stretch of road in Somerset.

“It’s just something you don’t hear about here in Somerset, i’ve lived here all my life and i’ve never heard anything about it,” said Randell.

“I’m surprised yeah, these are my neighbors down here they are good people,” said Collett.

Somerset police did arrest one man on scene. Christopher McCracken was charged with carrying a concealed weapon and tampering with physical evidence. He was released from jail Sunday morning.
