Fraud Investigation Warnings Against Security Scams

A word of warning tonight to those who have home security systems. Bates Security says they believe some people are out to scam their customers, falsely claiming to be from Bates Security, then trying to sell them another service.

Jeremy Bates says it happens every summer, but in the past week he’s had customers calling about someone knocking at their door claiming to be with Bates Security. But he says his company isn’t the only one that these scammers claim to be with.

“Whatever sign they have in the front yard, that’s amazingly who they’re with,” Bates says.

That’s how they gain your trust,” Bates says. Would-be customers don’t realize the person is actually with another company until the paperwork is signed and they’re long gone.

Bates says to make sure you actually have a scheduled appointment, and ask to see a company ID while also checking to see if they’re in a company vehicle.

If you find yourself the target of such a scam, report it to the Attorney General.
