Wrongful Death Two Sentenced in Connection With Madison Co. Rapper’s Death

A prison sentence has been handed down for two accomplices in a 2011 Madison County murder that shocked the community of Berea.

Both Randall Burgess Jr. and Sherry Bratton pleaded guilty in May to one count of facilitation to murder, one count of facilitation to attempted murder and one count of facilitation to first degree burglary in connection with the shooting death of 25-year old aspiring rapper Zackary Flower.

Friday, a Madison County Judge sentenced them both to five years in prison for each charge which was the maximum punishment. All of those sentences are ordered to be served concurrently. Both have already served well over 1000 days. Sherrie Bratton will get credit for time served.

Police say Burgess who was just 18 at the time knew about the crime and did nothing to stop it. They also say he let the killer use his car to get away. Sherry Bratton was inside the apartment at the time of the shooting with the shooter and his brother — her boyfriend at the time

Matthew Denholm, Flower’s convicted killer, took a plea deal last year and is serving two consecutive life sentences for flowers death as well as the murders of two other people.

Denholm’s brother Ryan’s case is ongoing. He has a hearing scheduled in September.
