Wrongful Death Parole Hearing For Convicted Killer Scheduled For Monday

Monday is the big day for a convicted murderer and the family who is fighting to keep her behind bars. 51-year-old Karen Brown, who killed her lover’s husband almost 30 years ago, is up for parole for a fourth time.

Brown has spent most of her life in prison for the 1986 murder of Lexington newlywed Michael Turpin. Last week at her parole hearing, Brown said she acted out of fear and was on drugs when she and Keith Bouchard barged into Turpin’s home and killed him.

Though Brown told the two member panel of the parole board that she takes full responsibility for her actions, she never once described holding Turpin to the floor as Bouchard stabbed him at least 20 times, before they both dumped his body in a lake.

Turpin’s family is once again pleading that Brown serve her life sentence behind bars.

“That night was a nightmare that I will live for the rest of my life. I have chosen not to forget it because the shame and guilt has led me to become a better person,” said Brown.

“Please just do what Judge Angelucci said. It wasn’t 30 years or 25 years when you’re reformed, it means life. Life until you part. Let her rot in jail,” said Turpin’s cousin, Rhonda Insman.

Since the two member panel of the parole board didn’t make a unanimous decision, the full board will meet again Monday to possibly decide if Brown is paroled, deferred or if she’ll remain in prison.
