Private Detective: Guilty Plea in DUI That Almost Killed Pastor’s Wife

A man pleaded guilty after police say he drove drunk and almost killed a pastor’s wife last spring.

Nancy Vanhook showed up to Lincoln Circuit Court with the support of her family. As she was driving home from a bible study group last May, police say 21-year-old Lee McGinnis crossed the center line on Highway 150 and hit a truck, then slammed into her car.

The crash broke almost every bone in her body and her feet were crushed.

On Thursday, McGinnis plead guilty to three acts of Wanton Endangerment and DUI 1st degree.

Vanhook says she believes he is remorseful and that she doesn’t see any good from making him spend more time in jail.

“Why change his life because mine has been altered? I hope he has learned from what has been done,” Vanhook told LEX 18’s Leigh Searcy. “I hope he can go on with his life.”

He will be sentenced March 11 and is facing 3.5 years in jail.

McGinnis went to jail Thursday pending his formal sentencing tag.
