Private Detective: Homeless Man Found Dead Outside in Cold

A homeless man was found dead outside in the cold Thursday and investigators said the dangerous temperatures may have contributed to his death.

People who help the homeless said it’s a stark reminder to think about the needy as temperatures and wind chills drop even further.

The body of Justin Adams, 22, of Danville was found in the cold near a dumpster by an employee at Taco Bell on Nicholasville Road.

They’re waiting on test results to determine his cause of death, but a deputy coroner told the herald leader that the temperatures may have been a factor.

“We do know it was at least partially weather related so we’re just erring on the side of caution and trying to get the word out to as many people as possible,” said Lexington’s Director of Homelessness Prevention Charlie Lanter.

The victim’s wife said he did have a history of drug use and the two were working on fixing their marriage. Just this week she said he came to Lexington to start a job, but until then, he was living on the streets.

“I told him he needed to go to Salvation Army… somewhere warm. I didn’t care where it was as long as he was warm and safe and his exact words to me were ‘How am I going to get to work?’ and I was like ‘Justin you need to stay warm because you’re going to end up dying,’ and look what happened,” said Shannon Adams.

She hopes his story can be a lesson to others who may be living in his shoes.

“Find somewhere safe and stay warm I don’t care where it’s at, worry about yourself just stay warm because you could be the next person,” said Adams.

The city is asking anyone who see’s someone in the cold to call the Compassionate Caravan at 859-913-0038.
