Private Detective: Thieves Return Stolen Items and Leave Apology Note

Thieves in Frankfort had a change of heart after their crime way posted all over Facebook.

Police say that early Sunday morning, one man decided to snoop around the Frankfort Boat Club. He decided to steal a boat and go for a ride, but when he returned, he had visitors with him.

“’They rambled up and down the dock, I guess casing out what they wanted to take,” Rodney Simpson with the Frankfort Boat Club told LEX 18.

After taking a boat out for a joy ride, the four rummaged through houseboats, stealing a TV and other items while covering their faces with towels.

They took off with the stolen goods, but the items were returned to the boat owner within hours of posting the surveillance pictures on the Franklin County Sheriff’s Facebook Page.

There was also an apology note with the returned items. It read, “I am very sorry. I do not know why I did it in the first place. It’s way out of my character.” It goes on to read, “I am so sorry. It does not make it ok, but it is your stuff, not mine. Again, I am very sorry.”

“I think there were over 5,000 views on Facebook last night. I’m sure they got some phone calls, had a bad night,” said Simpson.

Police have a suspect in mind and they are following up on leads.

Police encourage the suspects to turn themselves in and the manager of the Frankfort Boat Club has a message for the thieves, “Get a job, get a life.”
