Private Detective: Pike Co. Man Says He Shot Two Men Stealing From His Garage

A Pike County man says that he was forced to shoot two men who were stealing from his garage.

At 7:00 Monday morning, Randel Stewart says he noticed a suspicious car parked in front of his garage. Stewart says he then confronted two men in the process of stealing things from his garage and he was forced to use his gun.

He told LEX 18 that during the confrontation, one of the men went to the car and grabbed what he thought was a wrench.

“I went around the front, he stopped at his door and got something, I figured it was a lug wrench or something, evidently it was a gun and I shot him,” said Stewart. “When we met at the sign I shot him,  this other guy was comin’ out of the garage. I can’t remember if I shot him in the garage or if he come out. But I popped him too, because he had something in his hands too and I thought it was a lug wrench or somethin’. I wasn’t about to let them kill me.”

The two men are dead. They have been identified by KSP as John Rowe, 41 of Pikeville and Tommy Elswick, 38 of Robinson Creek.

Their deaths are being investigated by KSP Troopers
