Private Detective: Possible Attempted Abduction in Nicholasville

Police say that social media is complicating the investigation into an attempted abduction with false information.

According to officials with the police department, Nicholasville Police were dispatched to the area of Elmwood Court on Friday where a 12-year-old boy said that a man he didn’t know tried to grab his arm and pull him through the apartment complex.

Police immediately started canvassing the area for anyone fitting the description given by the victim. Police also spoke to several people in the area to see if anyone else had seen anything. We are unable, at this time, to find any other information about this case except the original story given by the boy.

Police say that misinformation posted on social media is causing them issues. There have been reports on Facebook of another attempted abduction. The case they were referencing was, actually, an attempted burglary totally unrelated to this case. There has also been a description of the perpetrator in this case circulating online that is more detailed than the description given to officers by the victim on scene.

“Social media can often be a help to police departments, but they can also be a hindrance when misinformation gets shared over and over again,” reads a release from the department.

Police ask that anyone with relevant information contact them.
