Pedophile Tracking Bowling Green Man Accused of Sexually Assaulting Sleeping Child

An unemployed Franklin man is accused of sexually assaulting a child under 12 years old while the child was asleep.

Shawn M. Stone, 34, 523 Lemon St., was arrested Wednesday morning on two counts of first-degree sodomy (victim under 12 years old) and two counts of first-degree unlawful transaction with a minor (illegal sex act under 16 years old), according to Stone’s arrest citation and a news release from the Franklin Police Department. The citation notes that Stone is not employed.

Franklin police opened an investigation in mid-June after an adult reported the allegations to social services personnel at the Cabinet for Health and Family Services, FPD Detective Mike Jones said. A cabinet employee relayed the allegations to police.

The charges against Stone involve the same child, Jones said.

Stone is accused of committing sex acts on the child while the child was sleeping until the child awakened and shoved him, according to Stone’s arrest warrant filed in the Simpson Circuit Court Clerk’s Office. Stone told the child not to disclose the allegations and that the incidents were a “bad dream.”

The allegations date from Dec. 25 through Jan. 15, according to Stone’s arrest warrant.

The child told police that Stone had a scar on a portion of his body that is usually covered with clothing. Police confirmed the presence of the scar, according to the warrant.  Stone denied the allegations and attempted to provide police with an alternative explanation for the child’s knowledge of his scar.

Police arrested Stone at his home at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday without incident, Jones said.

Stone is being held in the Simpson County Jail in lieu of a $500,000 cash bond. If he is released on bond, he is not allowed to have contact with any children, the alleged victim or any of the child’s relatives, friends, home or associates, according to the arrest warrant.

He will be arraigned Thursday in Simpson District Court.
