Accident Reconstruction One Dead in Versailles Crash

A woman is dead after a crash on McCowans Ferry Road in Versailles.

The coroner has identified her as 58 year-old Theresa Lake from Woodford County.

Police are still trying to determine what caused the car to crash off the side of the road.

They say the accident happened right around 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.

A witness said that the woman was driving an Infiniti and went off the road, crashing into a rock wall before overturning.

“She was extricated from the vehicle. First aid was given at the scene, but she was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Woodford County Coroner’s Office,” said Sgt. Daniel Clark with the Versailles Police Dept.

Traffic was stopped for hours as police examined the road for skid marks, talked to witnesses and reconstructed the collision.

Even though it was raining at the time of the accident, police say a medical condition may have played a role in her driving off the road.

“There’s not anything on the roadway right now to indicate that the driver lost control or anything. It appears that the driver just drove straight off the road here on this curve and hit the rock wall,” said Sgt. Clark.

Once police were done at the scene, the car was towed and the police cruisers left.

The coroner says Theresa Lake’s body was taken to Frankfort for an autopsy, and they hope to have results tomorrow.
