Private Detective: Minister Accused of Smuggling Drugs Into Jail

A minister, his wife, and his daughter-in-law are all facing charges after police say the minister smuggled drugs into the Whitley County Detention Center.

An investigation led to Gary Smiddy being arrested and charged with trafficking Methamphetamine and Marijuana.

The minister was taking part in the jail ministry program, when officials say he used a guitar case to smuggle in drugs and then passed them off to his son who is being held in the jail.

Smiddy’s wife and daughter-in-law were also charged in the case.

Investigators say they have phone recordings that implicate the wife and daughter-in-law in what they say was a scheme to make money.

Smiddy’s attorney says that he is being framed.

“It is his guitar case. He’s a minister who goes to the jail. He’s been going to the jail for sometime. But, there were several people who are also charged with it who had access to that guitar case,” said attorney Adam Howard.
