Wrongful Death Not Guilty Plea Entered in Deadly DUI Case

The case of a Lexington woman indicted on DUI and manslaughter charges in the deaths of two people was back in court on Thursday.

Suzanne Whitlow’s attorney entered a not guilty plea on her behalf. Whitlow is accused of driving drunk, killing a Louisville Police Detective and a University of Kentucky employee.

Whitlow appeared via video from jail for her arraignment.

Investigators say that the 26-year-old admitted she drank alcohol before she got behind the wheel back in late October.
Police say that Whitlow ran over Louisville Metro Police Detective Jason Schweitzer and UK employee Timothy Moore as the two tried to cross the street on South Upper.

Louisville Metro Police Officers were in the courtroom in support of Detective Schweitzer.

“Jason was full of life. Always had a smile on his face. He was able to take the new officers that came in and always make them feel involved and included,” Sgt. Brandon Lincoln told LEX 18.

Whitlow is expected to be tried on DUI and manslaughter charges, as well as persistent felon charges.

Her next court appearance will be March 16 for a pretrial hearing.

Court documents show that just days before the double fatal crash, Whitlow had completed a court ordered Drivers Ed class for a 2014 DUI.
