A Lexington woman took matters into her own hands this weekend when she said police didn’t respond immediately.
She, along with five other homeowners, want answers after someone stole valuables from cars and garages on Gray Hawk Drive.
May couldn’t be any busier for Kaelyn Query’s business, and it’s even tougher now that she’s missing most of what she needs to run it.
“They rummaged through, pulled everything out,” Query said. “They took my purse, my work bag, phones, everything.”
On Sunday, Query learned she left her car door unlocked overnight and someone took everything inside.

She used the “Find My iPhone” app and tracked where it was, but said officers told her they’d go by if they had time.
“So, I said, if they’re not going to go, I’ll just go,” Query explained.
Part angry and part crazed, Query drove to the address off Arceme Drive and confronted a man at the home. Though he credit cards were all maxed out and some things weren’t there, she somehow managed to get her phone and a few other things back.
“I stuck my hand out, shook his hand, looked him right in the eye, said I really appreciate your help and I promise I’m not going to call the cops,” Query said.
“Then I got in my car and immediately called the cops.”
Query said what bothered her most is what she found out days later. A neighbor actually called 9-1-1 while the men were stealing from cars, but dispatchers told the caller since she wasn’t in danger, there was nothing they could do.
“No one showed up,” She said. “Then i go down there, I’m 5’1″, I knock on the door and ask for my stuff back, and when I call the cops back and tell them
I’ve already gotten it back, then of course, the full force shows up.”
We reached out to Lexington Police and E911, the dispatching and communications center, who said calls are prioritized. Theft is a lower priority.
A Lieutenant said officers will always respond, but must go to more immediate calls first sometimes, which can be out of an officer’s control.
While Query is safe, police warn, no one should take matters in their own hands.
