Private Detective: Laurel County Fairgrounds Property Stolen

Less than a month away from their county fair, $20,000 worth of Laurel County Fairgrounds’ property has been stolen and destroyed.

As crews try to repair and replace the property with a very limited budget, the fairground manager says he and law enforcement are looking for the perpetrators.

Fairground Manager Jimmy Durham said that the perpetrators snuck onto the fairgrounds and hopped on a tractor before ramming the fairgrounds garage door down to take high-value property over the weekend.

Durham said they stole a four-wheeler, a John Deere field rake, tables, a JVL sound system, ladders, water hoses, extension cords, and everyday tools.

To keep this financial setback from happening again, Durham said they’re installing plenty of security systems and alarms next week.

“I guess we can say we’re going to invite criminal activity from now on, cause we will have you on camera, or we will have a picture of you somehow,” he said.

The Laurel County Fair will be July 10, so there is no time to waste.

“We’ll have twenty-something thousand people here that week. We got to get these things fixed and ready to go because it’s fair time,” he said.

The fairgrounds crew is offering a $1,000 reward for information that can lead to an arrest. If you have any information, you are asked to contact the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office.
