Pedophile Tracking Daytona Beach, FL Man Arrested in Sting

A man allegedly caught in a child sex sting admitted to police that he is a new father with an infant waiting for him at home.

Colton Ellis, 20, was arrested in Daytona Beach, Fla., on Thursday when he arrived at a house where he thought a juvenile girl was waiting, the Sun Sentinel reports. Upon arrest, Ellis allegedly admitted that he wanted to have sex with a juvenile and said, “I have a 6-week-old baby at the house, what was I thinking?”

Police say he had been talking to the girl — actually an undercover officer — online, and the two arranged to meet at her house. WESH reports that he texted on the way to tell the girl that he picked up condoms.

Ellis told officers that he brought condoms because he had “every intention of having sex” and that he “should have known better but was just horny,” according to police reports.

On top of his apparently willing confession, Ellis admitted to having marijuana in his car, according to the News-Journal.

Ellis is charged with using a computer to solicit a child, traveling to solicit a child, and use of a computer to commit a felony.

Private Detective FBI Law Enforcement Bulletin Online

Featured Article From Bulletin

On October 17, 1978 the Omaha, Nebraska, Police Department responded to a crime scene where a man had been brutally assaulted and stabbed to death in his home. He later would be identified as 61-year-old Carroll Bonnet, an employee at the local hospital.

Law enforcement officers investigating the case collected a variety of evidence, including latent fingerprints and palm prints lifted from the victim’s bathroom. They believed the suspect left behind the biometric evidence while attempting to clean blood and other identifying material before leaving the residence in the victim’s car. Of particular interest was a note left by the suspect that read, “I am leaving this crime with one clue. Find it yourself. Die, pig.” The Cicero, Illinois, Police Department recovered the stolen vehicle days later without incident and obtained additional latent print evidence for further analysis.

http://liarcatchers.com/contact.php

The Omaha Police Department processed all of the evidence from the crime scene but was unsuccessful in matching the latent prints against the known fingerprint repository. In an effort to identify a suspect, the department forwarded a teletype to various law enforcement agencies, requesting additional support in searching the prints against other available biometric repositories. Unfortunately, the suspect remained at large and, with no new leads, the case went cold for the next 30 years.

In December 2008 the Omaha Police Department’s Cold Case Unit received a fax from the Criminal Laboratory Services Section of the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) inquiring whether the Bonnet Case latent print evidence had been searched and linked to a suspect. Realizing the case was unsolved, the Cold Case Unit contacted its department’s crime laboratory to request that the prints be searched again with new, automated biometric technology that was unavailable in 1978.

The Omaha Police Crime Laboratory searched the latent prints against the FBI’s Integrated Automated Fingerprint Identification System (IAFIS). In less than 5 hours, the IAFIS responded with a list of possible candidates for comparison purposes. Several days were devoted to examining the latent print evidence against the IAFIS results, which led to the positive identification of the first suspect—Jerry Watson. Investigators located Watson at the Lawrence Correctional Center in Illinois, where he was serving time for prior burglary charges.

The Bonnet Case officially was reopened based on this new evidence and assigned to a Cold Case Unit detective who coordinated with the Omaha Police Crime Laboratory and the Nebraska State Patrol to further analyze the original evidence. A Thrifty Nickel advertisement was found among the evidence with the name “Jerry W.” scribbled on one of its pages. The detective believed this to be the name of the suspect, Jerry Watson, as the clue referenced in the note left at the crime scene.

After researching Watson’s background, it was discovered that he lived only a few blocks from where the victim’s stolen vehicle was recovered. Because of the biometric evidence, investigators obtained a warrant just days before he was to be released from prison. Watson was interviewed and presented with an order to obtain his DNA. During the interview, he denied any involvement in the murder, knowledge of the deceased, or presence in the victim’s apartment. The latent fingerprints ultimately led to the positive identification of a suspect; however, the results of the DNA test further substantiated his responsibility for the homicide.

In August 2011 Watson faced a jury for the murder of Carroll Bonnet. After 10 days of testimony, a guilty verdict of first degree murder was returned. On October 17, 2011, 33 years to the day since Bonnet’s body was discovered, Jerry Watson was sentenced to life in prison.

Insurance Fraud Firm Found Guilty of Katrina Related Fraud

A federal jury has found State Farm Fire and Casualty Co. committed fraud against the federal government and submitted a false record to support fraud after Hurricane Katrina.

The Sun Herald reports the verdict came after the eight-member jury deliberated for three hours Monday in a whistleblower lawsuit. The decision potentially opens for examination thousands of post-Katrina flood claims State Farm adjusted and paid before reimbursement by the National Flood Insurance Program.

http://liarcatchers.com/insurance_fraud.html

Before opening their case to other claims, former insurance adjusters Kerri and Cori Rigsby first had to prove State Farm committed fraud involving one property.

The newspaper reports State Farm is expected to file a motion asking the federal judge in the case to overturn the verdict or grant a new trial.

On Saturday afternoon, April 6 an Angels Camp Police officer stoped a car in the 600 block of Stanislaus Avenue. The driver, Jesse J. Taylor, a 29 year-old Arnold resident, ran away from the car into a yard and jumped a fence. The officer attempted to follow Taylor, but a dog in the yard attempted to bite him.

Identity Theft Tulsa County Sheriffs Uncover Identity Theft Ring

A traffic stop by Tulsa County sheriff’s deputies on Friday helped investigators uncover a huge identity theft operation.

The investigation began when someone fired shots during a burglary at a storage facility on the night of April 4.

No one was hurt, and the manager gave deputies a good description of the thieves’ vehicle, which was pulled over the next day on Charles Page Boulevard, with four people inside.

A deputy found drugs and what appeared to be stolen or counterfeit checks. Investigators say Tammy Petit, 42, came clean.

http://liarcatchers.com/identity_theft_investigation.html

Deputies say Petit told them about her large identity theft operation in an attempt to cut a deal.

“All these people understand. They operate in the same world. They know the guy or girl sitting next to them is going to tell on them. What she did was she dropped the dime on herself first,” said Major Tom Huckeby.

They say they searched a home and a motel room based on her information, and found computers, scanners and printers and more than 600 pieces of evidence in the motel room.

Investigators are still trying to determine just how widespread the ID theft ring is, but they already know there are potential victims, not just in Oklahoma, but across the country.

“This is a pretty high-tech business operation that we’ve uncovered,” said Deputy Greg Brown.

Investigators say Petit told them she would steal names and addresses wherever she could find them, then use that information to make official-looking requests for documents, including birth certificates and Social Security cards.

“She has created requests for birth certificates, requests for driver’s license information, requests for Social Security and date of birth,” Huckeby said. “Everything she’d need to get a Social Security number to get state assistance.”

Petit told investigators that in 2009, she made more than $1,000,000 in profit.

Deputies say they believe there are victims all across Oklahoma as well as in other states including Texas, Arkansas, Alabama, New York and Tennessee.

“These people are losing their identity and they’ve never been to Oklahoma,” Huckeby said.

Other suspects identified in the identity theft ring are Jeanna Darlene Edwards, David Eugene Holland and Michael Robert Prather.

Prather, 22, was arrested on complaints of possession of a controlled drug after a felony conviction and obstructing an officer. Edwards, 33, was arrested on a second degree burglary complaint, and Holland, 42, was jailed on outstanding warrants in Creek and McIntosh counties.

Meth was found in the car. Investigators believe money from the elaborate operation was used for drugs.

The Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office has contacted the FBI about the case and says the FBI has indicated it will help in the investigation.

Deputies say Petit is cooperating. She was booked into the Tulsa County jail on a complaint of false impersonation.

Meanwhile, investigators are working to sort through the enormous amount of evidence they’ve collected. They’re urging anyone who has been burglarized recently or thinks they’ve been ripped off, to call investigators at 918-596-5690.
