Two people were arrested after police served search warrants at three borough stores in connection with a fraud investigation involving food stamp access cards.

Adbu Aljash, 38, of Pottstown, and Kuldip Kaur, 40, of King of Prussia, were both charged with felony corrupt organization and other related charges, according to court documents.

Kaur worked at the Quick Mart Grocery Store on 55 E. High Street. Customers were able to buy cigarettes, non-food items and could receive cash back on their government-issued ACCESS cards, according to court records.

Missing Person Terry Hand of Boone County

Police in Boone County said Friday that the case of a man who has been missing since January is now being investigated as foul play.

Terry Hand, 41, of Long Leaf Court near Florence was reported missing by his daughter on January 8 after he had not been seen or heard from since January 6. Hand, who is described as a white man, 6’4″, 300 pounds, shoulder length dark brown hair, brown eyes, with a beard and a tattoo of a star on his left hand, simply went missing with no clue as to his whereabouts. Hand’s mobile home seemed undisturbed and his Ford Mustang was still in the driveway. He has not shown up for work or called in to report his absence at Jero Incorporated in Florence.

http://liarcatchers.com/missing_persons_investigations.html

As of Friday, investigators suspect foul play in the case. Detectives in the case have interviewed nearly 50 of Hand’s family, friends, co-workers and acquaintances in an effort to determine his whereabouts. His sudden disappearance is totally uncharacteristic of him.

Hand’s description has been checked at area jails, hospitals, and shared with other law enforcement agencies that might have discovered an unidentified deceased person to no avail.

Identity Theft Boston Man Arrested

A Boston man was arrested Thursday in what authorities say was an extensive scheme to use stolen identities and fake credits cards to buy smartphones and other high-end electronics for resale.

Attorney General Martha Coakley announced the arrest of 36-year-old Shahab “David” Yousheei on charges including identity theft, credit card fraud and possession of counterfeit money.

http://liarcatchers.com/identity_theft_investigation.html

Coakley said Yousheei operated a shop in Downtown Crossing and led a group of “runners” who used stolen identities to open new mobile phone accounts they used to buy discounted smartphones and high-end electronics that were re-sold for higher prices. They also allegedly used faked credit cards and counterfeit money to buy the merchandise for re-sale.

Yousheei, of Boston’s Brighton neighborhood, is being arraigned Friday in Boston Municipal Court. It’s not immediately known who is representing him.

Coakley said he had an illegal credit card encoder the ring used to make cards using fake or stolen identities. She said the scheme involved thousands of dollars of mostly Apple products, including phones, iPads and laptop computers that were bought either directly with the fake cards or with gift cards. She said he also allegedly bought and accepted counterfeit money.

Coakley said people who bought merchandise at his shop should check their credit for possible fraud. She said some of the items also may have been sold overseas.

She said Yousheei was arrested after an undercover sting by state police and the U.S. Secret Service in which he allegedly bought counterfeit money.

Fraud Investigation 3 Charged in $2m Scheme in Modesto, CA

Three people face charges in a mortgage fraud scheme that involved a Modesto property, among others.

A federal grand jury returned an indictment charging Surjit Singh, 66, of Dublin; his son, Rajeshwar Singh, 38, of Pleasanton; and Anita Sharma, 51, of Gilroy, with mail fraud, bank fraud, and false statements on a loan and credit application, the United States Attorney’s office said.

http://liarcatchers.com/fraud_investigation.html

The indictment alleges that Surjit Singh recruited people with good credit to act as straw buyers for homes owned by his family members and associates. Rajeshwar Singh, a real estate agent, allegedly submitted loan applications for the straw buyers, one of whom was Anita Sharma.

The Singhs allegedly prepared and submitted applications to lenders that falsely stated the straw buyers’ income, employment, liabilities, and intent to occupy the homes as their primary residences.

According to the indictment, the defendants were responsible for the origination of more than $2.1 million in residential mortgage loans on properties in Modesto, Elk Grove, Sacramento and Stockton.

Banks foreclosed on all four properties, resulting in a total loss of more than $1.2 million, the U.S. Attorney’s office said. If convicted, the defendants face a maximum penalty of 30 years in prison and a $1 million fine.

Arson Investigation Bennington Township, FL Woman Arrested for 2010 Fire

A Florida woman is facing charges for her alleged involvement in a suspected 2010 arson at her Shiawassee County home.

Michelle Fulton Kiernan, 48, of Homestead, Fla., is charged with conspiracy to commit arson after authorities say she was responsible for a May 31, 2010, fire at her home on the 3300 block of South M-52 in Bennington Township.

Shiawassee County Sheriff Detective Lt. David Kirk said that Kiernan was apprehended by United States Marshals in Miami. She was transported back to Michigan on Tuesday, March 12 and arraigned on the charges. She remains lodged at the county jail with a $10,000 bond.

http://liarcatchers.com/arson_investigation.html

Kirk said authorities are still working to determine a motive but said that a Michigan State Police fire marshal report leads authorities to believe that the fire was intentionally set.

Authorities began investigating the case after the fire but Kirk said that Kiernan moved to Florida shortly thereafter and became evasive.

Kirk said his office received additional information allegedly implicating Kiernan so they asked the Marshall service to arrest Kiernan in Florida.

Additional charges are anticipated in the case, Kirk said.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and Owosso Township Fire Department also assisted in the case.
