Missing Person Search Resumes for Magoffin County Father

Wednesday will mark two weeks since a young Magoffin County father was last seen by his family.

Crews initially searched for 29-year-old Freddy Brown near the area of his home, but they couldn’t find any sign of him after he disappeared on February 27. Investigators suspended a ground search due to what they called a “lack of evidence.”

However, the rescue squad in Magoffin County told LEX 18 they plan to resume looking. The missing person’s case has also been turned over to state police.

Officials say foul play has not been ruled out.

Arson Investigation Lexington Police Search for 2 After Construction Fire

Police continue to look for two people spotted near a construction site just a few minutes before a suspicious fire Monday night.

Police say a security guard watching a construction site along Evangeline Lane spotted two people in the area around 11 p.m. and chased them away. When the guard turned around to head back, he spotted smoke coming from the garage of a townhouse under construction and called 911.

Firefighters responded and found a pile of siding on fire in the garage. Crews managed to keep the flames from spreading to the rest of the home.

Police brought in a K9 to search for the men, but didn’t turn up anything.

Missing Person Erica Maskaleris of Oakland, CA

Friends and family members of a missing 31-year-old Oakland woman walked the neighborhood Monday where she was last seen four days earlier, hoping for tips on where she is.

Erica Maskaleris has not been seen since a surveillance camera at the Taste of Denmark bakery at 34th Street and Telegraph Avenue, down the street from her home, filmed her at 8 a.m. Thursday.

http://liarcatchers.com/missing_persons_investigations.html

The footage shows Maskaleris wearing running clothes – a gray sweatshirt, gray sweat pants and red shoes – and walking purposefully, “like she was warming up,” said her nephew Courtney Lopez, 19, who traveled from his home in Fresno to help with the search.

Maskaleris often runs in the morning, Lopez said. Sometimes she takes the bus or drives to Lake Merritt and runs there, he said.

Relatives, friends and volunteers passed out flyers with Maskaleris’ picture Monday at the MacArthur BART Station, at bus stops and street corners.

Maskaleris never returned Thursday to the home she shares with another nephew, Patrick Lopez. Concern deepened when she failed to make a flight Friday morning to see her brother in Texas.

Maskaleris owns GeekoSystems, an Oakland computer service and repair company.

“Initially, we thought that it might have been just, kind of, she was running away to get away from something, but we now know that is not the case,” Courtney Lopez said. He would not elaborate, saying Oakland police had asked him not to.

Without elaborating, police said Monday that after being reported missing, Maskaleris was seen in West Oakland. In a statement, police added that investigators “are not asking for the assistance of the media and the community.”

Courtney Lopez said, “We have reason to believe she’s still alive and well and she’s still out there.”

Maskaleris is Latino, 5 feet 3 inches tall and 220 pounds, with brown eyes and dark brown, curly hair.

Her family is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to her whereabouts. Anyone with information is asked to call Oakland police at (510) 777-3333.

Private Investigator Pendleton County Mother Makes Allegations

A Kentucky mother is making serious accusations against a U.S. Army cadet training officer and the U.S. Army Cadet Corp.

In a recently filed lawsuit, a Pendleton County mother says her teenage son was repeatedly sexually abused by one of his cadet officers over a 3-year-period and her daughter sexually abused by a fellow cadet. Now, she’s suing the U.S. Army Cadet corp for negligence.

The alleged abuse happened at the cadet training center in Millersburg in Bourbon County between 2010 and 2012 during a summer camp program. The lawsuit, filed in Bourbon County, alleges the training officer threatened her son with punishment if he refused molestation. The boy’s mother believes Army Cadet Corp management knew what was going on but refused to act.

http://liarcatchers.com/index.php

“What we thought was going to be a great program to teach them self-discipline, respect, give them life skills, leadership skills, turned out to be a nightmare,” said the mother, Katrina Strange.

LEX 18 reached out to the training center and the U.S. Army Cadet Corp. The training center spokesperson says they can’t comment on pending litigation.

Strange also told LEX 18 they’re hoping that the accused officer will be indicted by a grand jury later this month.
