Wrongful Death Missing Man Body Found, Girlfriend Arrested

A missing man had been stabbed to death and stashed beneath a pile of bedding in his cluttered apartment for about a month — overlooked by relatives, neighbors and police alike — until Stanley Jacobson’s granddaughter found his body on Thursday while his accused killer milled about mere feet away.

“I don’t know what her reaction was — I could only imagine,” said San Jose police spokesman Sgt. Jason Dwyer, who revealed the chilling details Friday.

Regina Butler, a 46-year-old woman neighbors described as Jacobson’s girlfriend, was the suspect taken into custody the day before.

Jacobson, 69, was last seen Feb. 5 at the Hilltop Manor retirement community where he lived and was reported
missing Feb. 18. At that time, police said they were also looking for Butler, who was believed to be with him. Jacobson was considered at risk because of the onset of dementia, and police opened an elder abuse case because they believed the man may have been exploited by Butler for financial gain, possibly through insurance fraud.

Missing persons detectives visited the apartment on Feb. 22, about two weeks after police believe Jacobson was killed, and found a disheveled apartment. They took photographs of the scene, including the pile of bedding that concealed Jacobson.

“The officers went in and noticed clutter everywhere,” Dwyer said. “It blended in with the rest. Nothing really stood out about it.”

Dwyer said that the

pile was large enough to have masked the odor of the decomposing victim.

The victim’s granddaughter and neighbors had also visited the scene numerous times since Jacobson was reported missing. But Dwyer said the mystery came to a head on Thursday, after a neighbor saw Butler at Hilltop Manor and called the granddaughter, who has not been named.

She went to the complex and talked to Butler, police said, convincing her to go inside the apartment to chat while — unbeknown to the suspect — the police were notified.

It was while the granddaughter was stalling, “trying to busy herself,” that she picked items off the pile and discovered Jacobson.

“The call was upgraded to a homicide,” Dwyer said. “She was a cool customer, to invite (Butler) inside, not knowing what she was dealing with, until police arrived.”

At the retirement community behind the Church on the Hill, Jacobson was known as “The Magician” due to the various magic tricks and handcuff-escape acts he would demonstrate to the delight of his neighbors.

However, they said he became more distant since Butler came into his life, and friends thought she was behind Jacobson’s disappearance but didn’t know in what capacity.

“I suspected that myself after I talked to her,” said Benjamin Ramos, who approached Butler on Thursday when he saw her at the apartment. “I told her she is the person who knows more than anyone, and she said she couldn’t remember what happened the last time she saw him.”

Pedophile Tracking 3 Atlanta Relatives Sentenced to Life

Three Atlanta relatives have each been given consecutive life sentences in a child sex abuse case.

Officials say 45-year-old Thomas Johnson, his 46-year-old sister, Maryland, and her 32-year-old daughter, Crystal, were sentenced Wednesday in Fulton County Superior Court.

The three were charged with sexually abusing three children between 2004 and 2009. Prosecutors say the children were forced to perform sex acts on the three, and two of the victims were prostituted.

Crystal Johnson was sentenced to five consecutive life sentences plus 150 years. Maryland Johnson was sentenced to four consecutive life sentences plus 70 years, and Thomas Johnson was sentenced to two consecutive life sentences.

Missing Person HIPAA Law Kept Salem Hospital from Reporting Missing Man

As police and friends searched Monday for a missing 81-year-old man, Salem Hospital refused to tell police he was a patient, citing federal privacy law.

Hospital spokeswoman Sherryll Hoar says it was blocked by the law known as HIPAA.

The Statesman Journal reports police learned Thomas Dill was a patient at Salem Hospital on Wednesday thanks to a tip from an anonymous caller.

Lt. Steve Birr says it’s a cumbersome law, especially in missing person cases involving people with mental illness.

Birr doesn’t think the hospital was being adversarial, but knowing he was a patient would have saved taxpayer dollars and spared Dill’s friends anxiety.

Pedophile Tracking Keller, TX Teacher Arrested

Damon Miller, 44, a former fifth-grade teacher at Parkwood Hill Intermediate School, was arrested by Keller police March 4 on suspicion of aggravated sexual assault of a child.

According to the arrest warrant, the charge stems from an alleged incident in October 2010 at Miller’s home in Keller involving the 5-year-old daughter of a friend.

Keller district officials said that Miller resigned his teaching position on Feb. 22, citing personal reasons.

http://liarcatchers.com/pedophile_tracking.html

District administrators sent letters to all Parkwood Hill parents by email and regular mail on March 7 to inform them of the arrest and said they would have counselors available at the school to talk with any students who have questions or concerns.

Keller district officials issued a public statement: “We are aware of the arrest and investigation, but most importantly we are focused on our students and families at this time. We believe this is a matter best discussed at home with parents or with a counselor at school. We have no indication that the reported incident has any connection to the campus or students of Keller ISD.”

Identity Theft New York Man Faces Charges

A New York man faces identity theft charges after Southington police took him into custody in New Jersey earlier this week.

Glenn Reid, 50, of 205-22 114th Road in Hollis Queens, N.Y. signed a waiver of extradition and fugitive from justice order for surrender at Gloucester County Prison in Woodbury, N.J. on Tuesday. He was then transported to the Southington Police Department.

http://liarcatchers.com/identity_theft_investigation.html

Reid entered the TD Bank branch at 900 Queen St. in Southington on Feb. 21, 2012 and obtained a debit card assuming the identity of a resident of Sewell, N.J., according to the arrest warrant. Reid then used the card to make more than $8,100 worth of ATM and purchases at various locations on Feb. 21-22, according to the warrant. He also withdrew $8,000 from the account, resulting in a total loss of $16,156.13 from the victim’s account, according to the warrant.

The warrant says that surveillance video shows Reid conducting the transaction inside the Southington bank. He had been arrested for a similar incident last March and positively identified by police in Foxborough, Mass., Southington Sgt. Jeffrey Dobratz said in a press release.

Reid was charged with first-degree identity theft, illegal use of a credit card and second-degree larceny. He is being held on a $25,000 bond and is due in Bristol Superior Court on April 3.
