Pedophile Tracking Minneapolis Police Officer Charged

MINNEAPOLIS — Minneapolis police officials say the officer charged Friday with multiple counts of criminal sexual conduct with young girls is no longer on the force.

Bradley Schnickel, 32, was charged in Anoka County District Court with two counts of criminal sexual conduct in the third degree, one count of attempted criminal sexual conduct in the third degree, and three counts of engaging in electronic communications relating to or describing sexual conduct with a child.

According to the complaint, Schnickel used social media sites to make contact with the girls. The charges allege that Schnickel used a false name and told the girls he was 22 — 10 years younger than his actual age. The complaint alleges Schnickel had sexual contact with at least two girls ages 13 and 14 years old and was involved in inappropriate communications with two other young girls online.

In July of 2012, Schnickel allegedly had sex with a 14-year-old girl after giving her vodka and Mountain Dew. Anoka County Attorney Tony Palumbo said this is a particularly serious charge, because the girl was mentally and physically impaired by the alcohol. If convicted, the maximum penalty for the crime is 15 years in prison.

The complaint alleges Schnickel also tried to get a 13-year-old girl to perform a sex act on him, but she refused. Schnickel also allegedly sent pictures of his genitals to other young girls via social media sites and urged the girls to have sex with him. Two girls say they sent nude or partially nude photos back to him.

One girl alleges that Schnickel met with her earlier this week and told her to, “deny, deny, deny everything.” Another girl also alleges that Schnickel told her to deny that she’d had any contact with him.

Palumbo said it is possible Schnickel had contact with more than the four girls referred to in the complaint. He says investigators have only gotten through one-third of the 9,000 pages of printouts of Schnickel’s electronic communications.

“We may find more or we may not,” he said.

Palumbo said the complaint can be amended at a later date if more victims are identified. Anoka County District Court Judge Sharon Hall set bail for Schnickel at $500,000 with no conditions of release, or $250,000 with the condition of no contact with any juvenile females, including his own children. He is also required to turn over all firearms. Schnickel’s next court appearance is scheduled for March 6.

Palumbo said Schnickel has retained private counsel. However, MPR News has not been able to reach Schnickel’s attorney for comment.

A Minneapolis police spokesman said Schnickel’s last assignment on the force was as a patrol officer in the 4th Precinct. However, he didn’t say if Schnickel was fired or resigned.

Schnickel was on the force for five years, and according to his personnel record was recommended for an award of commendation in 2011. His supervisor at the time wrote that Schnickel chased down a man carrying a gun and took him into custody. Schnickel’s record also includes a list of three complaints filed in 2008, 2009 and 2001. Details of the complaints are not listed. But the record shows that no disciplinary action was taken.

Pedophile Tracking London Couple Convicted

LONDON—A federal jury found a London, Kentucky couple guilty of photographing two children engaging in sexually explicit conduct.

The jury convicted 58-year-old Rickey L. Sherman and his wife, 33-year-old Corrine Sherman, late Wednesday afternoon of two counts of producing child pornography, conspiracy to produce child pornography, and one count of possessing child pornography. The jury returned the verdict after approximately four hours of deliberation following three days of trial.

http://liarcatchers.com/pedophile_tracking.html

Evidence presented at trial showed that, in 2008, the Shermans produced approximately 40 images of two pre-pubescent children engaged in sexually explicit conduct.

At the time Ricky Sherman was arrested for the federal offenses, he was on probation for a previous state offense. The investigation started when state authorities received a tip that Rickey Sherman violated terms of his probation by having access to a computer. The evidence revealed that Rickey Sherman contacted his wife as the investigation was underway, and she subsequently attempted to conceal a camera from law enforcement. The camera was recovered and found to contain the produced child pornography images.

Ricky Sherman owned Truck Town Repair in Laurel County. He and his wife were indicted in September 2011.

Kerry B. Harvey, U.S Attorney for Eastern District Kentucky; Perrye Turner, Special Agent in Charge, FBI; and Stewart Walker, Chief of the London Police Department, jointly announced the convictions.

The investigation was conducted by the FBI and the London Police Department. The U.S. Attorney’s Office was represented by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jason Parman.

The Shermans will appear for sentencing on June 4, 2013. They face a minimum of 15 years in prison and a maximum of life. The couple will have to serve a minimum of 85 percent of the prison sentences imposed. The court will impose a sentence after reviewing the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and the federal statutes.

Pedophile Tracking Attleboro, VA Teen Charged

A former city youth faces allegations he molested two 7-year-old children in December 2011.

Matthew Goditt, 18, who now lives in Virginia where he is on probation for the same charges involving the same children, was arraigned Thursday in Attleboro District Court.

He was ordered held in jail on $10,000 cash bail or $100,000 surety after pleading innocent to two counts of indecent assault and battery on children under 14.

http://liarcatchers.com/pedophile_tracking.html

Goditt is known to the alleged victims, authorities said.

His lawyer, Donna Bentley of Attleboro, told the court there may be a question as to whether her client is competent to stand trial. Similar questions were raised in the Virginia case before he was found competent in that case, she said.

The case was continued to March 7, when Goditt is expected to talk to a court mental health official.

Identity Theft 109 Arrests Made in IRS Crack Down

Federal authorities took action against 389 people suspected of involvement in identity theft to commit tax fraud, the IRS said Thursday.

Announced as the annual federal tax-filing season begins, the nationwide actions include 109 arrests and 189 indictments, plus court complaints and informations, said acting IRS Commissioner Steven Miller.

The bulk of the enforcement actions took place on the East Coast and in the Midwest, a map released Thursday by the IRS shows.

http://liarcatchers.com/identity_theft_investigation.html

Additionally, IRS auditors and criminal investigators in late January started visiting 197 money service businesses, including check-cashing stores, to ensure the locations don’t aid identity theft or refund fraud. The visits focus on 17 high-risk areas identified by the IRS in or near New York; Philadelphia; Atlanta; Tampa; Miami; Chicago; Houston; Phoenix; Los Angeles; San Diego; El Paso; Tucson; Birmingham; Detroit; San Francisco; Oakland and San Jose.

Part of a year-long IRS crackdown, the effort targets thieves who gain access to other people’s Social Security numbers and other identifying information, and then use that information to concoct and file fraudulent federal tax returns — and collect unwarranted refunds.

“As tax season begins this year, we want to be clear that there is a heavy price to pay for perpetrators of refund fraud and identity theft,” said Miller. “We have aggressively stepped up our efforts to pursue and prevent refund fraud and identity theft, and we will continue to intensely focus on this area.

The tax agency has added additional computer screening filters in an effort to stop the crime, said Miller. Although he acknowledged the filters could slow IRS processing of some legitimate tax returns and refunds, Miller said the tax agency would work to keep any delays to a minimum.

Additionally, the IRS as of late 2012 had assigned more than 3,000 employees to work on identity theft-related work, said Miller. That’s more than double the number devoted to the area in 2011, he said.

In all, the IRS says its efforts in 2012 “protected” against $20 billion in fraudulent refunds, most of which are directly related to identity theft. That compares with $14 billion in 2011.

Miller said the IRS is making progress in fighting identity theft refund fraud, but still has room to improve. The agency is working to speed the time it takes to get refunds to honest taxpayers victimized by the crimes, he said.
