Private Investigator Burglary Suspect Shot in Garrard County

Police said a man was shot while burglarizing a home in Garrard County Monday afternoon.
David Baker came home Monday afternoon to find an SUV parked in his driveway, just off Jennings Road.

Trooper Frank Thornberry, with Kentucky State Police said Baker tried to ward off the suspect.
“Yelled into the residence, if you’re in my home, you need to show yourself right now,” explained Trooper Frank Thornberry.

Kentucky State Police said Baker went to his shed and grabbed the shotgun.

“It wasn’t a struggle, but a brief verbal altercation ensued and the homeowner shot the suspect in the arm area,” stated Thornberry.

It was then, 26 year-old Jarred Pitman of Waco – ran away. He was found on nearby Day Road and taken into custody. At this time Pitman is only being charged with one count of burglary, but police said four happened Monday afternoon all in the same neighborhood. In fact, in the past two weeks, at least eight homes have been broken into. That’s something KSP will be questioning Pitman about and it’s something that worries neighbor, Jared Lake.

“Our neighbor has been hit before and had a couple of his bridles and saddles stolen from his horses,” stated Jared Lake, a neighbor.

Lake said it’s trials like those though, that Lake said defines rural communities.

“Being around here, us country folks, everybody knows everybody and works together as neighbors to watch out over each other and protect them as family,” stated Lake.

Police said Pitman has a detailed rap sheet. He faces charges including burglary of a residence and a convicted felon in possession of a handgun.

Pitman is at UK-Hospital, but we’re told his injuries are not life threatening.

Missing Person Body Found in TX May be AZ Man

The family of an Arizona man who disappeared last month in Texas is awaiting the results of an autopsy that will determine whether a body found Saturday is him.

Debra Belin said her brother, Jason Belin, 23, of White Cone, Ariz., last was seen Jan. 24 at the Jaguars Club in Odessa after he and his friends were kicked out of the gentleman’s club following an altercation in the parking lot. She filed a missing persons report with the Ector County Sheriff’s Office the next day after she and her family learned he never returned to the motel where he was staying with friends.

http://liarcatchers.com/missing_persons_investigations.html

Authorities searched for a week while family members put up fliers and reached out to local media, she said. On Saturday, the Texas Department of Public Safety’s dive team pulled a body from a pond near the club.

Belin said the body won’t be identified until the autopsy is complete, but the body matches the description her family gave police. Until the results come in, she and her family are left only with questions.

She said there are “no words” to describe the emotions she and her family are feeling.

“They recovered the body but there’s still no closure. There’s still no closure because we don’t know,” Belin said. “Hopefully something comes back from the autopsy so that we will know what happened that night. … Why was he there? Why? That’s the main question: Why? Now we just have to sit and wait and see.”

Belin said the details from the night he disappeared are sketchy. The club supposedly has video cameras out front but they weren’t working that night, she said.

The Ector County Sheriff’s Office did not return a call seeking information.

According to local media reports, the sheriff’s office has not confirmed whether the body pulled from the pond about two blocks south of East Loop 338 on Cargo Road is indeed Jason Belin. The body has been sent to Tarrant County for the autopsy.

Jason Belin, a member of the Navajo Nation, went to Big Springs, Texas with a group of friends for a job working on power lines, Debra Belin said. He had turned 23 at the end of December.

She said her brother was “awesome” and “the most loveable person ever.”

“He was sweet, he was always laughing, he helped everybody. He had great athletic skills,” she said. “He touched everybody’s hearts, he really did. He left an imprint on everybody’s hearts. He would never do anything to hurt anybody, he would never leave anybody behind. He was never a selfish person.”

Belin said her family has set up a bank account at Wells Fargo where people can donate to help cover the cost of flying his body back to Arizona and funeral expenses. People can go to any Wells Fargo location and donate money to the Jason Belin Missing Person Fund.

She urged anyone with information on what happened to her brother to contact the Ector County Sheriff’s Office or call their local authorities.

Private Detective Alabama Boy Hostage Free

Officers stormed an underground bunker in Alabama where a 5-year-old boy had been held hostage for nearly a week, rescuing the child and leaving the boy’s abductor dead, officials said Monday.

Steve Richardson with the FBI’s office in Mobile said at a news conference Monday afternoon that negotiations had deteriorated with 65-year-old Jimmy Lee Dykes, a man neighbors described as an isolated loner. Dykes had been seen with a gun, and officers believed the boy was in imminent danger, Richardson said.

http://liarcatchers.com/index.php

Officers stormed the bunker just after 3 p.m. CST to rescue the child, who was taken to a hospital in nearby Dothan. Officials have said the child has Asperger’s syndrome.

However, it was not immediately clear how Dykes died.

Melissa Nighton, the city clerk in Midland City, said a woman had been praying in the town center Monday afternoon. Not long after, the mayor called her with news that Dykes was dead and that the boy was safe.

“She must have had a direct line to God because shortly after she left, they heard the news,” Nighton said.

Neighbors described Dykes as a man who once beat a dog to death with a lead pipe, threatened to shoot children for setting foot on his property, and patrolled his yard at night with a flashlight and a firearm.

Government records and interviews with neighbors indicate that Dykes joined the Navy in Midland City, serving on active duty from 1964 to 1969. His record shows several awards, including the Vietnam Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. During his service, Dykes was trained in aviation maintenance.

He had some scrapes with the law in Florida, including a 1995 arrest for improper exhibition of a weapon. The misdemeanor was dismissed. He also was arrested for marijuana possession in 2000.

He returned to Alabama about two years ago, moving onto the rural tract about 100 yards from his nearest neighbors.

Missing Person Teen’s Body Found in CA Park

A 13-year-old girl reported missing Thursday has been found dead in a park in the Northern California city of Fairfield, police said.

A passerby discovered the girl’s naked body a little before 7 a.m. Friday in the city’s Alan Witt Park and flagged down a police officer who was driving by, Fairfield Police Officer Cleo Mayoral said Saturday.

An autopsy was performed, but police did not release the girl’s name or her cause of death. Mayoral said there were no obvious signs of trauma to the girl when she was found.

http://liarcatchers.com/missing_persons_investigations.html

“I thought to myself, that looked like a mannequin, didn’t look like a human body,” the passerby, Eric May, told KTVU-TV.

The girl was reported missing around 5:45 p.m. Thursday by her guardian at a foster home in nearby Suisun City. That city’s police Cmdr. Tim Mattos told the Daily Republic that the guardian last saw her board a school bus. He said she was in class all day and was expected home around 4 p.m.

He called the discovery of the dead child “a shock to our system.”

No suspect or suspects have been identified, but detectives were canvassing neighborhoods and checking video images from surveillance cameras as part of their investigation, Mayoral said.

Sacramento television station CBS13 reported the girl attended Green Valley Middle School, which is about eight miles from the park.

School Principal Gregg Hubbs declined to comment on the girl’s death.

Arson Investigation York City, PA Man Arrested

A 36-year-old man, Wayne Allen Taylor, is charged with arson, risking a catastrophe and numerous counts of aggravated assault in connection with a Saturday morning fire at the Rodeway Inn on North George Street in York City.

Police and fire departments were dispatched to the fire at the inn, 132 N. George St., at 9:42 a.m. Saturday, police told the York Dispatch.

When police arrived, they got master keys from motel management and began evacuating people from their rooms while fire crews knocked down flames, according to Taylor’s charging documents.

http://liarcatchers.com/arson_investigation.html

Rodeway Inn employee Nick Patel, working at the front desk, told police the motel office had received a smoke detector alarm from room 314, and he had sent employee Gary Emswiler to check on the room.

Emswiler helped some tenants from their rooms, but he sustained minor burn injuries and was transported to York Hospital. He was discharged from the hospital on Sunday morning, Patel said.

Meanwhile, police could not find the occupant for room 314, who turned out to be Taylor.

All other tenants were accounted for and evacuated to another location, charging documents say.

A state police fire marshal was on the scene and determined the fire to be intentionally set, according to charging documents.

Fire Capt. Chad Deardorff got a call from county control asking if officials were searching for Taylor and providing a phone number where he could talk to Taylor.

When asked by phone if he was at the scene when the fire started and whether he had started the fire, Taylor said yes and that he was “ready to talk to someone,” according to charging documents.

Taylor told Deardorff he was at a friend’s house and was ready to turn himself in, charging documents say.

Taylor returned to the Rodeway Inn and was Mirandized and taken into custody by police.

When interviewed, Taylor admitted he had paid for room 314 and said on Saturday morning he thought about where he could live, since he had nowhere to go, and had the idea to “do something wrong,” as in hurting himself, or “do something wrong and go to jail,” charging documents say.

Instead of hurting himself, Taylor set his room at the inn on fire by lighting two bed corners with a lighter and leaving the room, the charging documents say.

The documents say he told police he did not see flames when he left, and wasn’t sure the bed had caught fire until he heard sirens as he was walking away. When he got to a friend’s house and told what he had done, the friend advised him to turn himself in, the charging documents say.

At that time, the documents state, he called 911 and said he wanted to turn himself in.

Rodeway employee Patel said that between 10 to 15 tenants of the inn are now staying at the Days Inn on Arsenal Road.

Patel was busy making calls on Sunday to everyone who had reservations at the inn.

“(Taylor) had no connection to the hotel. This was the first time he ever came to the hotel,” Patel said. “He got a room just the night before and he looked like a decent person, but I didn’t know he was going to commit this kind of crime.”

“I am lost right now. We are totally shut down,” Patel said. “Right now security is our first priority.”

The Rodeway Inn has seven employees, Patel said.

There are 55 rooms, but Patel was unsure how many were damaged
