Missing Person New Brighton, Minn. Teen

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension has issued a missing person alert for a New Brighton teenager who his family says has mental health issues and is without his medication.

“As a mother, yes, it’s terrifying and it’s devastating to not know where your child is,” said Janet Rodriguez-Ricci, the mother of 16-year-old Will Ricci.

Ricci discovered her son missing early Friday morning when she found his bedroom window wide open. He had made his bed “perfectly,” his mother said, and the room was clean. The teen had apparently taken a pair of boots, a brown Columbia jacket and little else.

“Will is treated for an Anxiety Panic Disorder and he is without his medication,” his mother said. “And we don’t know if there was a silent storm brewing inside of him.”

Ricci insists “there were no clues” that would have foreshadowed a disappearance: Will had not had mood swings, no changes at school, and no major arguments that could have altered his outlook.

“We are very worried. We are not expecting a good outcome at this point,” Rodriguez-Ricci said during a Christmas Day interview at the family’s home.

Anyone with information should call New Brighton police at 651-767-0640.

Accident Reconstruction 5 Killed in Christmas Eve Crash

A Kentucky couple picked up their daughter and son-in-law from the airport Monday night, but never made it home. All of them died in a head on crash in Knox County, as did the driver of the other vehicle.

Gary and Patricia Caldwell were on their way to a joyous holiday reunion with their children. They’d just picked up their daughter Julia from the airport, as well as her husband Brent Robinson. They were driving back to Harlan County to celebrate Christmas, but didn’t make it. A car driven by 31-year old David Vanderpool of Whitley County, cross the center line of US 25E and collided head on with the Caldwell family. Everyone involved in the crash died.

LEX 18 has learned Patricia Caldwell was an assistant principal at the James A Cawood Elementary School in Harlan. Gary Caldwell also worked in the education field, most recently as a finance director in Letcher County.

James Clem, principal of the James A. Cawood Elementary School sent LEX 18 this statement:

“Mrs. Caldwell was devoted to her work, her family, and her church. She was a stabilizing influence and contributed greatly to our school and our school system. She will be extremely difficult to replace and impossible to duplicate. I consider her a friend ,and an accomplished, reliable, trustworthy, coworker. She had around 19 years experience as an educator spending the past 5 or 6 years as the Assistant Principal at Hall Elementary School and James A. Cawood Elementary School. The news of the tragic accident seemed unbelievable at first hearing it. One of those reports you immediately reject from sheer reaction as impossible. Her family loss carries a strange feeling that friends, community, and the world has suffered a disheartening loss for me.”

Identity Theft Clearwater Man Sentenced to 6.5 Years

A Clearwater man has been sentenced to six and a half years in federal prison for aggravated identity theft and other crimes, according to a release from U.S. Attorney Robert E. O’Neill.

Brian Katacinski, 49, Clearwater, who was convicted Oct. 3, also was sentenced Friday for bank fraud and violation of supervised release, the release said. He was ordered to repay $22,873.10, what he earned from the scheme.

Katacinski engaged in mail theft and identity theft from June 2011 to March 14, the release said. He used the stolen identities to open fraudulent bank accounts and credit cards, which he then used to go shopping, the release said.

He ran the scheme while on supervised release for a similar operation in 2006, according to the release. Katacinski fled supervised release in 2010, and was missing until this arrest.

The Postal Inspection Service and St. Petersburg Police Department investigated this case, the release said.

Arson Investigation 100 Yr old Church in Rockingham County, NC Burned to the Ground

ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, N.C. —

Investigators in Rockingham County said a fire at a 100-year-old church is being considered as arson.

No one was hurt, but a lot of memories are now lost forever.

It was too much for even a church to handle, and the harsh morning light made it worse.

Saturday night around 10:30 p.m., Gideon Grove United Methodist Church in Stokesdale caught on fire, and quickly, more manpower was called in.

http://liarcatchers.com/arson_investigation.html

More than 75 firefighters did what they could; Tyler McGee was one of them.

“It is hard to lose a church anytime of the year but especially so close to Christmas,” said McGee.

His crew was inside the sanctuary and got out just in time.

“While we were in there, we started seeing a rollover of the fire, and then it just went black and the next thing you know, you saw the roof falling. As we tried to make our way out of there, was stuff falling on us. We barely made it out,” said McGee.

No firefighters were seriously injured. They know the fire started towards the back of the church, but they do not know what caused it.

“When you have a church loss, you are affecting hundreds of families,” said McGee.

The Stokesdale Church is more than 100 years old.

“I am 74, and I came to church here before I was born,” said Mahalia McGee. “My daughter is the organist and choir director here. My grandchildren were christened here. This is our cross that we put flowers on at Easter time.”

For her, it is a lot to take in.

“It is just hard to walk away. It is just so much a part of who I am,” said Mahalia.

The massive fire torched the sanctuary, rows of pews are now in pieces, stained glass shattered, but the fire was not strong enough to steal their faith.
