Private Investigator in Mich. Helping Find Stolen Camera With Last Pics of Son

ALLEGAN COUNTY, Mich. (WZZM) — A private investigator is trying to locate the last images a father has of his son. Joe Courtney’s Allegan County home was burglarized a week ago and a thief stole his camera.

That camera had the few images Courtney had left of his 22-year-old son Gregory, who was killed in a car crash after returning home from a deployment in Afghanistan.

Courtney talks about losing his son’s pictures saying, “It took my whole heart away, I can’t go back in the back yard and re-video tape them, they can’t be replaced.”

Now private investigator, Mike Cook, is stepping up to help for free. Cook is hitting area pawn shops in hopes of locating the camera. Cook recently had his first son and was touched by Courtney’s story.

Cook says, “Once they explained that it was regarding his son who passed away a month earlier, it pulled at our heart, and we as a group decided we wanted to try to get these memories back.”

He says it’s like finding a needle in a haystack, but his company is doing all they can, including combing websites like eBay and Craigslist.

The hope now is to return what’s left of Courtney’s son, even if it is just the memories.

Insurance Fraud Woburn, Mass. Tree Service Co. Owner Pleads Guilty

A Woburn business owner has pleaded guilty in connection with failing to accurately report his total payroll or number of employees to his insurance provider to avoid paying the proper insurance premium, Attorney General Martha Coakley said today.

Edward App, 50, pleaded guilty in Middlesex Superior Court to four counts of workers’ compensation fraud and three counts of larceny over $250. He was sentenced to two-and-a-half years in jail, suspended for two years, and two years probation. App was also ordered to pay full restitution.

http://liarcatchers.com/insurance_fraud.html

App is the owner and sole proprietor of App Tree Inc., a tree service company. The Insurance Fraud Bureau of Massachusetts said it referred this case to the Attorney’s General Office after an investigation into an insurance claim filed by an employee who was injured in a life-threatening accident when he was crushed by a falling tree.

To evade high insurance premiums, App said he was the sole employee of the company and failed to disclose any information about additional workers.

As a result of this scheme, App underpaid his workers’ compensation insurer a total of $39,236 in premium payments, Coakley said.

Accident Reconstruction Man Killed in Moped Accident, Family Needs Help

As if losing a loved one on thanksgiving isn’t enough pain and stress, now one family is left asking how they’re going to make ends meet to bury the one they love. A moped accident in Wayne County on Thursday killed 51-year old Charles Franklin Barber, better known as Frankie Senior.

A day of thanks, turned into a day of mourning.

“I ran to his son Franklin Junior and said it’s your daddy, it’s your daddy go get in your truck he has been in a wreck,” exclaimed Melanie Towles, Frankie Senior’s girlfriend.

http://liarcatchers.com/accident_reconstruction.html

Frankie Barber Senior was at his family’s home in Monticello Thursday, when he took a moped for a cruise. Frankie’s girlfriend, Melanie Towles, said she wasn’t too thrilled about Frankie riding a moped.

“(Melanie yelled at Frankie) Get off that moped, you’re going to give it a flat tire, cause he was a big guy. He looked up at me and said I love you baby, revved it up and took off,” said Towles.

Just minutes later Towles recalled the police scanner saying there had been a moped accident on Crabtree Hollow Road. Frankie Senior had lost control. According to the Wayne County Coroner, Frankie hit a tree, went over an embankment and instantly died due to head injuries.

Now, Towles is without the love of her life and wanting nothing more than to help Frankie’s children lay him to rest, but finances are a problem.

“We’re having problems with getting money for gas for them (his family) to travel back and forth from Monticello to here,” stated Towles.

If you’re interested in helping the family, a fund is set up at Lexington’s Vineyard Community Church off Eastland Parkway. They are hoping to raise enough money to help the family pay for a funeral.

Missing Person Body of Missing 3 Yr Old Cleveland Boy Found in Trash

The mother of a missing three year old boy has been arrested after the child’s body was found in a trash bag.

Police say the body of missing 3-year-old Cleveland boy Emiliano Terry was found in trash bags at the waste management trash processing plant in Oakwood on Monday.

Authorities spotted a waste management truck picking up recycling containers and trash behind the family home and asked that they truck be held at the trash facility.

http://liarcatchers.com/missing_persons_investigations.html

Police had the truck dump its load inside the facility and began searching through the bags. They found the body double-bagged after opening several other bags.

Investigators say they became suspicious of Emiliano’s mother, Camilia Terry, when her statements became inconsistent.

The child was reported missing on Sunday.

Fraud Investigation Fake Fund for Deputy Anthony Rakes in Marion County

On Wednesday, November 14th Marion County deputy Anthony Rakes was shot and killed while he was on duty. People in Lebanon have come together to help each other through the tragedy. But LEX18 has learned someone, somewhere is trying to benefit from Rakes’ death.

The Marion County Sheriff’s Office tells LEX18 if you get approached by someone asking you to donate money to an Anthony Rakes fund, it’s not legitimate.

The Sheriff’s Office says people are claiming to collect money for Rakes’ family, but the family knows nothing about this. We’re told the family plans to set something up on their own, but haven’t had time yet.

http://liarcatchers.com/fraud_investigation.html

In the early morning hours of November 14th, Rakes was shot and killed at the end of his shift when he went over to investigate a parked car. Police say 49-year-old Dewayne Shipp was in that car, and shot Rakes twice in the stomach. Last week a Marion County grand jury indicted Shipp.

The Sheriff’s Office says Rakes’ graduating class is the only group organizing a donation fund at this time. They’re raising money to put up a memorial at the high school.

Missing Person Officials Combing Lake for 13 Yr Old Colorado Boy

The body of a Colorado boy who went missing from his home earlier this month may be located in a dam reservoir, cops said this week.

Members of the New Mexico State Police Dive Team spent Sunday searching near the dam at Vallecito Reservoir for Dylan Redwine, 13, who was first reported missing from his father’s home in Vallecito, Colo. on Nov. 19.

The divers searched an area targeted by trained cadaver dogs on Saturday. The dogs had repeatedly “hit” on several spots near the dam while aboard watercraft, according to the Durango Herald.

http://liarcatchers.com/missing_persons_investigations.html

The divers searched in about 40 feet of cold water, but no body has been found.

Redwine disappeared last week from his father’s home in Vallecito, Colo., during a court-ordered visit, according to KMGH-TV.

Mark Redwine, Dylan’s father, told police that his son was in his home when he left to complete some errands at 7:30 a.m. When he returned four hours later, the boy was missing, ABC News reported.

Dylan, who normally lives with his mother in Colorado Springs, Colo. is described as 5 feet tall, 105 pounds, with blond hair, blue eyes and fair complexion. When he was last seen, he was wearing a blue-and-white Duke Blue Devils baseball cap, black Nike T-shirt and black Jordan tennis shoes, KSDK-TV reported.

Besides the search of the lake, investigators are hoping to speak with two boys who were wearing black backpacks when they were seen by a postal worker on Nov. 19 at the Vallecito Lake Country Market, La Plata County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Dan Bender told NBC News.

The postal worker reportedly knows Dylan, and told police said one of the boys looked like him.

As the search has stretched out for a week, deputies are working with the FBI to develop leads. According to a press release from the La Plata County Sheriff’s Office, officials are considering various scenarios, including whether he might have run away or been abducted.

Wrongful Death Zachary Holly Arrested in the Death of 6 Yr Old AR Girl

BENTONVILLE, Ark. — A neighbor has been arrested as a suspect in the killing of a 6-year-old Arkansas girl whose high-profile child abuse case last year sent her father and stepmother to prison, police said.

Jersey Bridgeman was reported missing the morning of Nov. 20. Minutes after a search for her began, Jersey’s body was discovered in an abandoned house two doors from her home in Bentonville.

http://liarcatchers.com/wrongful_death.html

Zachary Holly, 28, who lives next door to where Jersey was staying, is being held in the Benton County Jail on charges of capital murder, kidnapping and residential burglary, police Chief Jon Simpson said Monday night.

Simpson said Holly will have a bail and probable cause hearing Wednesday, during which a probable cause affidavit will be released. At that point, “many questions related to this investigation and arrest will be answered,” Simpson said.

He did not release details of how Jersey died or what led police to Holly. Simpson said work by the State Crime Lab helped speed the arrest.

Jersey’s short life was checkered with discomfort. About a year before her death, her father and stepmother were charged with abuse after investigators discovered they had chained her to a dresser to stop her wandering around the house at night. David Bridgeman, Jersey’s father, told investigators he restrained his daughter to prevent her from getting into medication and other things around the house.

David and Jana Bridgeman, Jersey’s stepmother, pleaded guilty in June to false imprisonment, permitting abuse of a minor and endangering the welfare of a minor.

Jana Bridgeman is serving a 12-year prison sentence, plus three years for a probation revocation. David Bridgeman is serving an 18-year prison sentence.

Police Capt. Justin Thompson said there was “no reason … for the community to be worried at this point,” but otherwise revealed little more about the homicide investigation in Bentonville some 215 miles northwest of Little Rock.

Thompson said the girl died sometime between midnight and 6:53 a.m. on the day her body was found. He would not say who called 911 to report her missing. Investigators later searched the home where she lived and the house where her body was found, as well as the homes in between.

A funeral for Jersey is set for 1 p.m. Tuesday at Rogers Funeral Home in Rogers.

Missing Person Little Falls Cousins Found in Man’s Basement

A man is in custody on Sunday after two cousins who went missing on Thanksgiving Day were found in his basement.

Haile Kifer, 18, and Nicholas Brady, 17, of Little Falls, Minn. disappeared on Thanksgiving day.

The disappearance remained a mystery, until authorities went to the home of Byron David Smith, 64, of Little Falls on a suspicious activity call from a neighbor and Smith told them that the missing teens’ bodies were in the basement.
http://liarcatchers.com/missing_persons_investigations.html

In the complaint heard during the arraignment on Monday, Smith told the authorities that he had shot Kifer and Brady, after the teenagers broke into his home.

Smith said he fired when Brady came into view from the waist down, reports CBS News.

Please note, the following details may be disturbing to some.

After the teen fell down the stairs, Smith said he shot him in the face as he lay on the floor.

“I want him dead,” Smith was quoted telling an investigator in the compliant.

Smith said he dragged Brady’s body into his basement workshop, then sat back down on his chair.

A few minutes later Kifer began coming down the stairs. The complaint states he shot her as soon as her hips appeared, and she fell down the steps.

Smith said he tried to shoot her again with his Mini-14 rifle, but that the gun jammed. He heard Kifer laughing, and he took it to mean she was laughing at him.

“Smith stated that it was not a very long laugh because she was already hurting,” according to the complaint.

Smith then said he shot Kifer in the chest several times with a .22-caliber revolver, dragged her next to Schaeffel, and with her still gasping for air, fired a shot under her chin “up into the cranium.”

“Smith described it as ‘a good clean finishing shot,'” according to the compliant, but also said he had fired “more shots than needed to.”

Smith’s brother, Bruce told the Star Tribune that Smith was a retired U.S. State Department worker and he became fearful after his home had been broken into many times. Bruce said not all the burglaries were reported but the most recent one on Oct. 27.

Bruce said that the teens used a lead pipe to break the glass and crawl into the home and surprised Byron who was in the basement workshop as they walked down the stairs.

The Morrison County sheriff’s office reports one break-in on Oct. 27 where Byron reported losing gold coins, two guns, cash, photo equipment and a ring.

Morrison County Sheriff Michel Wetzel said that the circumstances at the scene led police to conclude that Byron’s actions were in excess of simple self-defense.

On Monday, Morrison County Attorney Brian Middendorf said Smith appeared at the Morrison County District Court and his bail was set at $2 million, reports CBS News.

Kifer was a senior at Little Falls High School and competed in gymnastics and helped manage the boys wrestling team. Brady had attended Little Falls High also, but transferred to Pillager High. Brady had wrestled for Little Falls High before transferring.

Crystal Shaeffel, Nicholas’ sister told the Star Tribune that Brady made good money working for their father’s tree-trimming business and that Kifer had been in treatment for abuse of controlled substances and thought that she might have been after pills. She also stated the Kifer had stolen Adderall pills from her home.

The Minneapolis Star-Tribune reported that around 200 people attended a Sunday night vigil at Little Falls High School for Kifer and Brady.

Missing Person Police Continue to Search for Missing 3 Yr Old Cleveland Boy

On Monday, Police and the FBI are continuing their search for 3-year-old Emilliano Terry, who went missing from Kossuth Park around 5:05 p.m. on Sunday.

Emilliano and his mother Camilia Terry, 20, were at the park on East 121st Street and Williams Avenue when he went missing.

Camilia says she was attending to one of her other two children and when she looked back up, Emilliano was gone. When she realized he was gone, she called the police.

http://liarcatchers.com/missing_persons_investigations.html

Search teams have been looking through abandoned homes and buildings since Sunday night. A police dog that was brought to the scene indicated that Emilliano had been at the park, police said at a news conference.

Officers also searched where the boy lives in the 13000 block of Buckeye Road, reports Fox 8 news. They also searched near the E. 116th Street RTA Rapid Station and Shaker Square, after the boy’s scent was picked up by search dogs.

Also, the police have reported that one of the other children, a five-year-old, said that Emilliano may have gotten into a black vehicle, possible a Saab.

19 Action News Reporter Ed Gallek read the original police report and found that it said that foul play is suspected. Further investigation led him to the discovery of a picture from a surveillance camera taken earlier on Sunday that shows Emilliano’s mother with two children and not all three.

Fox 8 News reports that on Monday around 2 p.m., Cleveland police escorted Emilliano’s mother, and a newborn baby, out of her apartment and into a police van, where she was taken to the FBI building on Lakeside Avenue.

Emilliano weighs about 30 pounds and was last seen wearing a gray North Face coat, red and black sweater, blue jeans and blue and black Champion tennis shoes.

If you have any information regarding the whereabouts of Emilliano N. Terry or any information regarding the circumstances of his disappearance, please contact the Fourth District Detective Bureau at 216-623-5400, or you can call 216-623-5418 or 216-621-1234 or 911.
