The four were convicted for their roles in recruiting more than 250 healthy patients to undergo sometimes dangerous surgeries to fraudulently bill insurance companies.

The four were among 19 defendants charged in the case, which has been divided into several trials because of its size.

A total of 13 have been indicted by a grand jury and six others pleaded guilty prior to indictment.

Cold Case Reopened Possible Suspect Mix-Up

Versailles police are taking a closer look at the unsolved murder case of 22 year old Valeri Brooks. A documentary recently aired that linked serial killer Glen Rogers to Brooks’ murder in 1990. Versailles police thought DNA evidence had cleared Rogers. It had actually cleared serial killer William Glen Rogers.

Now police are revisiting the Brooks case. Brooks’ mother tells new developments–which we brought to the attention of police–has given her new hope to figuring out who killed her daughter.

http://liarcatchers.com/cold_cases.html

There are two men named Glen Rogers who are important to this story. Two different men, same name, both serial killers.

The first Glen Rogers, who was captured in kentucky, says he murdered O.J. Simpson’s ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson. According to the recent documentary, he’s suspected of killing several women, including Valeri Brooks.

But it’s another Glen Rogers–William Glen Rogers–who Versailles police ran DNA evidence on in 1996, after Brooks’ murder. A different man entirely. He’s on death row in Tennessee for the murder of a nine year old girl.

The same name caused a mix-up more than 20 years ago.

“I just think they’ve done a terrible job from the beginning. They could have solved this years ago if they had done their homework, which they did not,” says Caren Brooks, Valeri’s mom who now lives in New Haven, Connecticut.

For more than two decades, Caren has wondered who kidnapped then murdered her daughter. The 22 year old Thornton’s clerk was abducted New Year’s Eve in 1990, and later found stabbed to death.

To learn the wrong Glen Rogers’ DNA was tested back then, Caren Brooks is angry. But she also has hope with the investigation back in the news.

“I don’t want them to be so quick to find or say okay yeah he’s the one who did it,” Caren says. “I want them to find the right person, I don’t want them to solve it just to get it out of the way.”

Versailles police say they’ve started making phone calls to Florida, where the Glen Rogers whose DNA was never tested, is sitting on death row.

“We just have to wait and see what will come of this, if his DNA matches,” Caren says.

Several legitimate direct sales companies have seen a large surge in fake orders being places with their consultants. The consultants are contacted through the legitimate “find a consultant” link located on the various sales Websites. In each instance, the suspects are placing large orders and agreeing to pay by check. The consultant receives the check for a much larger amount than the total cost for the products. The consultants are instructed to cash the check and send the difference back to the buyer via wire transfer. The IC3 has received several complaints filed by consultants from companies affected by this scam.

Arson Investigation Large Whitley County Fire Possible Arson

Firefighters in southern Kentucky are fighting several fires, including a large one in Whitley County that threatened some homes overnight.

According to the Division of Forestry, there are three active fires in the area. One is a 50-acre fire in Whitley County. Officials say crews will likely be fighting that fire, named the ”Croley Cemetery Fire” because it’s in the area of Croley Cemetery, until at least Monday afternoon. Officials said they believe the fire is suspicious and is likely arson. It started a couple days ago and appeared to be controlled because of rain but flared back up Sunday. No homes were evacuated, and so far there are no suspects.

Officials say the other two fires burning are in Leslie County, which covers 15 acres, and in Rowan County, where a fire has burned one acre.

Private Detective Facebook Posts Leads to Arrest of KY Fugitive

Police say a trail of Facebook posts led Franklin County deputies right to a fugitive hiding in Florida.

Deputies say Rod Leigh posted his “most wanted” picture on his Facebook profile, along with his address, to invite people to his birthday party. Along with the picture, the post read, in part, “I’m a felon, pow pow.”

That was all the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office needed. They worked with Tallahassee police, and Leigh was arrested Friday.

Fraud Investigation 19 Property Mortgage Fraud Kentuckiana Man Sentenced

LOUISVILLE, KY—A Jeffersonville, Indiana man was sentenced in United States District Court this week by District Judge Charles R. Simpson, III to 15 months in prison and ordered to pay $487,111 in restitution after pleading guilty to engaging in a conspiracy, with five indicted co-defendants, to commit bank and wire fraud. In court, Dane Little admitted to intentionally devising a scheme to defraud various banks and mortgage lenders by submitting fraudulent mortgage loan information in the purchase of 19 properties in Louisville, Kentucky and Jeffersonville, Indiana, totaling nearly $5 million dollars announced David J. Hale, United States Attorney for the Western District of Kentucky.

http://liarcatchers.com/fraud_investigation.html

“Combating mortgage fraud is a priority of the Department of Justice and my office. We will continue to work with the FBI and our other important partners, such as the Kentucky Department of Financial Institutions, to stop these crimes and bring the people responsible to justice,” stated David J. Hale, United States Attorney. “Fraudsters such as Little—whose scam allowed him to make off with excess loan proceeds—have fueled foreclosures and added to neighborhood blight. Their crimes cause serious harm to our communities, as well as to lenders, and the real estate and housing industries.”

According to the indictment returned by a federal grand jury on February 24, 2011, between November 1, 2006 and August 30, 2008, Shawn Bramlett, Billy D. McDaniels, Dane Little, Kyle Kark, and Mark Hack all of Jeffersonville, Indiana; and Stephen C. Netherton of Louisville, Kentucky, perpetrated a fraudulent scheme against various banks and commercial lending companies, including Wells Fargo Bank, Bank of America (formerly Countrywide Home Loans), Accredited Home Lenders, Primary Residential Mortgage Company, and First Franklin Financial Company. The indictment claims that they submitted applications and other documents for loans which contained false and fraudulent information, including false employment information, false and fraudulent bank account balances, and false representations that down payments were being made toward purchases of properties.

According to court records, after loan applications were approved for funding, the loan proceeds were wire transferred in interstate commerce to designated accounts with various banks in Louisville, Kentucky, whereby the defendants and other unnamed co-conspirators appropriated, for their personal benefit and gain, portions of the fraudulently obtained loan proceeds.

The Louisville grand jury returned a second charge in the superseding indictment against Little and Netherton charging them with conspiracy to commit bank fraud in a separate but similar fraudulent scheme against various banks and commercial lending companies. They submitted applications and other documents for automobile loans which contained false and fraudulent information, including borrower’s employment, income and assets, and identity of the seller of the vehicle.

According to court records, between October 22, 2010 and December 31, 2010, the defendants caused fraudulent loans to be funded in the amount of $118,000, purportedly to purchase four vehicles and in at least one instance, no car was purchased. After obtaining the loans, the defendants and other unnamed co-conspirators appropriated for their personal benefit and gain portions of fraudulently obtained loan proceeds.

To date, all six defendants have entered guilty pleas with the court, and two defendants, including Little, have been sentenced. Stephen Netherton was sentenced on April 6, 2012, to serve 24 months in federal prison, concurrent to his state sentence, and ordered to pay restitution in the amount of $874,100. McDaniels and Kark are scheduled for sentencing next month, while Hack and Bramlet are scheduled to be sentenced in the early months of next year.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Jim Lesousky, and it was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Kentucky Department of Financial Institutions. Mortgage fraud is a priority area for the President’s Financial Fraud Enforcement Task Force. The task force includes representatives from a broad range of federal agencies, regulatory authorities, inspectors general, and state and local law enforcement who, working together, bring to bear a powerful array of criminal and civil enforcement resources. The task force is working to improve efforts across the federal executive branch and, with state and local partners, to investigate and prosecute significant financial crimes, ensure just and effective punishment for those who perpetrate financial crimes, combat discrimination in the lending and financial markets, and recover proceeds for victims of financial crimes. For more information on the task force, visit StopFraud.gov.
