Identity Theft Minneapolis Woman Pleads Guilty

Cassidy McDaniel of Minneapolis pleaded guilty Monday to defrauding the IRS and receiving about $387,000 in funds through identity theft and fabricated income tax returns.

In a plea agreement, McDaniel admitted that she and co-conspirators obtained names and social security numbers for individuals, and then created false 2010 federal income tax returns to make claims for refunds.

http://liarcatchers.com/identity_theft_investigation.html

McDaniel and others also set up fictitious income tax preparation businesses where the refunds were sent, and opened bank accounts for the fake businesses to make deposits.

In February, 2011, McDaniel and others began withdrawing the money for their own personal use, according to the U.S. Attorneys Office in Minneapolis.

McDaniel pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to defraud the federal government during her appearance in court in Minneapolis before U.S. District Judge Joan Ericksen. She had been charged in May.

McDaniel faces a maximum prison term of 10 years. Her sentence will be determined later.

Pedophile Tracking Aurora, CO Police Officer

Denver’s CBS 4 detailed a situation Sunday that has Aurora’s police chief defending allegations of rampant sexual misconduct within the department by a former police officer who blew the whistle in court while being convicted for sexual assault on a minor.

A lawsuit alleging the police department knew they had a dangerous sexual predator working for them, yet continued to allow the officer to work with children, was filed last week in a federal courthouse in Denver on behalf of a teenage girl, 15, who was sexually victimized by the officer.

http://liarcatchers.com/pedophile_tracking.html

Michael Mangino, 52, a 29-year veteran of the Aurora Police Department was arrested in March and eventually convicted in July of Sexual Exploitation of a Child, but while on trial he testified that “sexual deviance has been a fabric in my life since about 16 years old.” Mangino continued to testify, “then I get into the police culture, specifically the Aurora Colorado Police Department, which this is a widespread problem in that department that is ultimately ignored by administrators and supervisors largely because they are involved in similar sexual deviant activity.” Adding, “the only time it becomes a problem is when you get caught and the public gets a hold of it. Then they make it a huge issue.”

When confronted about Officer Mangino’s testimony in the ironic and typically pro-department defending news report, Police Chief Dan Oates quickly went on the defense stating, “now, you understand, the person saying this is a convicted felon, who was engaging in behavior as a predator, and disgraced our badge” and also claimed he’d “never had to deal with a cop that’s done something like this to a 15-year-old.”

Not only was this not the first time, however, that a complaint against Mangino was made alleging sexual misconduct, Chief Deputy District Attorney J.P. Moore said during sentencing that the March 2011 crime was not an isolated incident but rather a pattern of conduct. “Mangino took advantage of his position as a police officer, but the violation of trust was beyond the victim, the violation also extended to the Aurora Police Department,” he said.

The teen’s attorney, David Lane, helping the girl seek financial damages in the civil suit says the police department had ignored past complaints about Mangino’s behavior specifically. “The director of a women’s shelter went to the Aurora Police Department, filed a complaint, and they promptly threw that complaint into the trash,” Lane said. Soon thereafter Lane’s client became Mangino’s next victim. “If Aurora has a custom, practice or policy of tolerating this sort of behavior, then Aurora as a municipality is liable to my client as well,” Lane said.

According to the Courthouse News Service, the 15-year-old victim’s Guardian ad litem also stated that “The Aurora Police Department knew of defendant Mangino’s sexually deviant compulsions and were aware of the severe risks in permitting him to maintain a position of trust and authority over Aurora youth, but continued to employ defendant Mangino with the Aurora Police Department as a member of the Police Area Representatives (PAR) Unit, and DARE officer in the Aurora Public School District.”

These allegations claiming rampant sexual misconduct among members of law enforcement aren’t without warrant. According to The Journal of Law Enforcement’s August 2012 issue entitled, “Sexual Deviance Behind the Badge,” (PDF) in the rare case that one of the many instances of official sexual deviance actually finds a way through the tight cracks of what seems to be a very strict code of honor (or, dis-honer, as it were) among the brotherhood of police and makes its way into the bright spotlight of public scrutiny, even then those cases represent more than double the percentage of what you’d find in the average American population and continues to skyrocket as it becomes harder and harder to hide information from the public in general. Despite the many honest officers that remain in the nation’s policing agencies across the country, but continue to slowly dwindle in number.

Although it’s far more than likely this escalating scenario will go largely unchecked by either the mainstream media or the nation’s departments and their internal affairs for the foreseeable future, this particular situation simply represents yet another example of just how out-of-control the nation’s policing agencies have become, both locally and federally, and basically falls in line with the rapidly escalating, out-of-control police state in the United States.

Ofc. Mangino received a virtual slap on the wrist in this case, only being subjected to a 90 day jail term and a five-year probationary period, also giving credence to the obvious disparity between how heavy sentences handed down to law enforcement officials are, as opposed to the average individual, in addition to the noticeable favoritism between the media and individuals and agencies in local and federal law enforcement.

Mangino’s conviction comes on the heels of Arapahoe County, CO Sheriff, Patrick J Sullivan’s sex for drugs scandal in 2011 that witnessed the celebrated 19-year sheriff’s arrest and ultimate conviction, around the same time, after having been caught soliciting a male prostitute with methamphetamines and admitting to having sexually assaulted multiple under-aged boys, seen in this confession video. He was sentenced to only 38 days in the jail that was once named after him, two years probation and an $1,100 fine but was released after just 17 days for “good time served.” He recently violated probation.

Missing Person Woman Boarding Plane in Dallas Goes Missing

On Monday, the family of a woman who disappeared from the Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport is still seeking answers to where she might be.

On Sept. 16, Jeanne Rysiewicz, 36, from Crown Point, Ind., and her family were catching a plane to return home after a family wedding, but Jeanne never boarded, reports the Star Telegram.

“We were ready to board the plane, and we looked around and Jeanne was still in line, she was like 2 or 3 people behind us, said Jeanne’s dad, Edward.

http://liarcatchers.com/missing_persons_investigations.html

When Edward turned back around he noticed Jeanne was farther back in the line and he yelled to her, “Hey, come on, we gotta go,” and boarded the plane.

When Jeanne didn’t appear on the plane, Jeanne’s mother, Barbara, got off the plane to search for her. She looked in the bathrooms and other areas of the airport, but could not locate her.

Authorities were called and surveillance video showed something no one expected. Jeanne leaving the airport, at the same time everyone was boarding the plane.

Jeanne’s travel bag was found abandoned near the building and taken to the lost and found. Her cell phone was found in the Terminal E infield parking lot the next evening.

“It looked to our investigators as if Jeanne had taken the two bags that she had and combined some things into one bag and left the roller bag behind,” David Magana from the Dallas airport said.

After 6 weeks, the family is no closer to answers why Jeanne left.

“I think she walked out on her own,” Jeanne’s older sister Renee told the Star-Telegram.

Edward thinks that after finding religious material in her abandoned suitcase that she might have joined a church or religious group in Texas.

Barbara Rysiewicz told the New York Daily News that she believes her daughter left the airport of her own free will, though she is not sure why.

“We just want to say we love her, and if she needed to sort things out, it’s fine,” she told the New York Daily News.

Anyone with information about the disappearance of Jeanne Rysiewicz can contact the DFW Airport Department of Public Safety at 972-973-3210 or her parents at 219-808-9626.

SOMERS — A month-long investigation into identity theft from a Somers resident resulted in the arrest of two men when they arrived to pick up a package, state police said.

The investigation began in October when Investigators James Stirpe of the Somers barracks received information that a Somers resident had her credit card information stolen and that thieves were racking up huge purchases with that information.

http://liarcatchers.com/missing_persons_investigations.html

Police said the woman’s credit-card information and information from other victims was used to buy roughly $50,000 worth of computer equipment throughout the state.

The suspects would place large orders from various computer companies, then arranged for pickup at shipping locations, including post offices, police said.

Stirpe, working with the U.S. Postal Inspector’s Office, arranged for a controlled pickup for the suspects at the Somers post office.

When Almanzor DeJesus-Castro, 31, of the Bronx showed up Thursday to get one of 40 packages he was scheduled to receive at the Somers post office, he was taken into custody.

A second suspect, Paul Abreau-Grullon, 38, of Reading, Pa., was waiting in a nearby van and drove off when he saw police take DeJesus-Castro into custody. Police stopped him nearby on Route 202 and arrested him.

Both were charged with attempted third-degree grand larceny, a felony, and were sent to the Westchester County jail in lieu of $10,000 bail.

The investigation is continuing and more charges are pending, police said.

The chiropractor, however, contacted law enforcement and, under direction of the department, applied for a clinic exemption certificate to begin operating the facility.

Working undercover, the chiropractor was also contacted by a local body shop owner named Michael Borkowski who made arrangements to provide accident patients to the clinic for a fee, the report states.

During the course of the investigation, Garden Relief Center submitted almost $40,000 in fraudulent insurance claims to six difference insurance companies, according to the report.

Iglesias and Borkowski were booked into Hillsborough County Jail and charged with eight counts of patient brokering, the report states.

If convicted on all charges they could face up to five years in prison.

Anyone with information about these or any other incidents of suspected insurance fraud is asked to call 1-800-378-0445. Citizens who provide tips can remain anonymous. The Department of Financial Services to date has awarded almost $275,000 to more than 40 citizens as part of its Anti-Fraud Reward Program.

Pedophile Tracking Indiana Man Found Guilty in Kentucky Court

LOUISVILLE, KY—A New Albany, Indiana man who used the Internet to induce a minor female to engage in sexual activity and transported her across state lines for illegal sexual purposes has pled guilty in United States District Court for the Western District of Kentucky. The defendant, Robert L. Real, III, age 21, entered his guilty pleas before United States District Court Judge John G. Heyburn, II, yesterday, announced David J. Hale, United States Attorney for the Western District of Kentucky.

http://liarcatchers.com/pedophile_tracking.html

According to the plea agreement, Real admitted that he had communicated with a 14-year-old female on Badoo.com, picked her up from her home in Jefferson County, Kentucky, and transported her back to his residence in Indiana. He further admitted that at his residence in Indiana, he engaged in sexual activity with the minor, including intercourse. The next day, he left the girl at a bowling alley in Jefferson County, Kentucky. The two began their online communications in early May 2012.

The 14-year-old had been reported missing to the Louisville Metro Police Department by her parents on June 8, 2012. The minor’s parents learned that she had been communicating with an adult, “Robert,” who lived in Indiana on a social networking website called Badoo.com. The FBI Cyber Crimes Task Force was notified of the incident and initiated an investigation.

After speaking with the minor on June 11, 2012, a law enforcement official interviewed the minor’s parents. The parents gave consent to review the family computer and the minor’s laptop for additional evidence. From the computer, law enforcement officials observed messages between “Robert” and the minor that had occurred on Badoo.com. There were over 2,500 messages between “Robert” and the minor. Excerpts of the communications may be found in the attached plea agreement.

At sentencing, Real faces a combined minimum term of imprisonment of 10 years, a combined maximum term of imprisonment of life, a combined maximum fine of $500,000, and supervised release of at least five years and could be any number of years, including life.

Sentencing is scheduled for January 28, 2013, at 1:30 p.m., in United States District Court, Louisville, before Judge Heyburn.

This case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Jo E. Lawless and was investigated by the Louisville Metro Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation as part of Kentucky’s Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.

This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. Led by the United States Attorneys’ Offices and the Criminal Division’s Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section, Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state, and local resources to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who sexually exploit children and to identify and rescue victims.
