Wrongful Death Wisc. Mall Shooting UPDATE

MILWAUKEE — A Wisconsin man terrorized his wife for years, threatening to throw acid on her face, dousing her car with tomato juice and slashing her vehicle’s tires before finally going to the spa where she worked, opening fire and killing her and two others.

The shooting spree stunned the middle- to upper-class Milwaukee suburb where it happened, but court records show the conflict between Radcliffe Haughton and his wife had been escalating for years.

http://liarcatchers.com/wrongful_death.html

The 45-year-old former car salesman ultimately shot seven women at the spa before turning the gun on himself. Three remained hospitalized Monday.

Haughton, of Brown Deer, was charged with disorderly conduct last year after police officers responding to a 911 call saw Haughton point what appeared to be a gun at his wife, Zina, from a window at their home. Officers took cover, and a 90-minute standoff ensued.

Brown Deer police said Monday the standoff ended peacefully, and they were never able to confirm a gun was involved because Zina Haughton wouldn’t allow them into the couple’s home. The charge against Radcliffe Haughton was dropped when a police officer failed to appear in court.

According to court records, Zina Haughton told police when she called 911 that her husband had thrown her clothes and bedding into the yard and poured tomato juice on her car.

Ernest J. Polk, who lives across the street from the Haughtons’ home, said they were friendly to him but he saw signs of turmoil.

“There was always confrontation over there, but I never thought it would come to this,” he said. “… It was mostly verbal. I didn’t see anything physical.”

Zina Haughton told police last year that her husband didn’t own any guns, but she was concerned enough about her safety to get a police escort when she went to the house earlier this month to pick up a few items.

Zina Haughton wrote in restraining order request filed Oct. 8 that her husband had threatened to kill her if she ever left him. He also, at various times, threatened to throw acid on her face and burn her and her family with gas.

“His threats terrorize my every waking moment,” Zina Haughton wrote.

She said when she drove to work after picking up items from her home, she found her husband waiting for her in a car outside the spa. He leaned out of the vehicle and, in front of her and two co-workers, slashed her vehicle’s tires. He was later arrested.

Radcliffe Haughton appeared in court Thursday, when a judge issued a four-year restraining order and told him to turn in all firearms to a county sheriff. It’s not clear whether he turned in any weapons.

He bought the .40-caliber semiautomatic handgun used in the shootings on Saturday, Brown Deer police said in a statement.

People who buy handguns from gun dealers must wait 48 hours after they have cleared a background check from the Department of Justice to pick up their firearm. There is no such waiting period or background check required in Wisconsin for people who purchase handguns from private individuals, which police say Radcliffe Haughton did.

Two Democratic state lawmakers said Monday that they’ll re-introduce a bill designed to ensure that perpetrators of domestic violence comply with judges’ orders to surrender their weapons.

The shooting spree also killed Cary Robuck, a 35-year-old nail technician from Racine, and Maelyn Lind, 38, of Oconomowoc.

Shawn Scheffler, who had lived with Robuck for six years, described her as a “bright personality” who loved her part-time job at the spa.

“She was my world,” Scheffler said. “That was the woman I was going to spend the rest of my life with, and she was taken from me just like that.”

Kathy Sieja, a spokeswoman at the hospital where the survivors were taken, said one woman was released from the hospital Monday afternoon and the others were in satisfactory condition.

The shooting spree that happened about 11 a.m. Sunday triggered chaos in the commercial area around the spa. Believing Haughton had fled, police began a massive, six-hour search that locked down a nearby mall, country club and hospital.

The police chief in Brookfield, where the spa is located, said later that a fire Haughton set in the building, the discovery of a propane tank initially believed to be an improvised explosive device and the layout of the facility, with many small rooms and locked areas, all slowed officers’ search and delayed the discovery of the gunman’s body.

It was the second mass shooting in Wisconsin this year. Wade Michael Page, a 40-year-old Army veteran and white supremacist, killed six people and injured three others before fatally shooting himself Aug. 5 at a Sikh temple south of Milwaukee.

Sunday’s shooting took place less than a mile from where seven people were killed and four wounded on March 12, 2005, when a gunman opened fire at a Living Church of God service held at a hotel.

Missing Person Indiana Man and Kids Missing Possibly in KY

It’s been more than 24 hours since a father and his two kids went missing. His family says Michael Mann, who is bi-polar, left New Albany, Indiana last night with his son and daughter, and never made it to his mother’s house in Versailles.

Mann’s mother says he’s a good dad, that he’d never hurt his 5 year-old daughter, Macy, and three year-old son, Madden, and he’d never put them in danger.

http://liarcatchers.com/missing_persons_investigations.html

But the 34 year-old father is the center of a police investigation after taking off from his Indiana home with his kids. No one has seen or heard from mann since 10:30 last night.

Then, this afternoon, a clue.

Mann’s van was found on I-75 South near London, keys inside, with a half tank of gas.

“We had officers with K-9s that went through the wooded area close by the car. They did not find any signs of any entry into the woods,” says Trooper Don Trosper with Kentucky State Police.

Mann had told family he was heading to his mom’s house on Elm Street in Versailles, but it appears he kept going to Laurel County.

His mom tells us her son suffers from bi-polar disorder: a brain condition that causes unusual shifts in mood, energy, activity levels, and the ability to carry out day-to-day tasks. She says he’s checked himself into a hospital for treatment in the past and wonders if that’s his plan this time.

“She’s a really good mother and is concerned about all her children,” says next door neighbor to Mann’s mom, Wanda Adkins.

Adkins says she came home to police cars in her neighbor’s driveway.

“I just can’t imagine what it’s like going through not knowing where your child is, where your grandchildren are, are they alright, are we going to find them?”

Another night with no news keeps mann’s family wondering what happened.

At this point no Amber Alert has been issued. Mann’s family tells me they’re trying to change that. Kentucky State Police say that could happen, as the investigation continues.

Missing Person Body Found in Hudson River

STONY POINT — The body of an older man has been discovered in the Hudson River near a car matching the description of one owned by a missing Eastchester man, Frank Forgione, police said this afternoon.

The man, described as between 55 and 65 was spotted shortly before noon about 20 feet off shore near the Jones Point section of Stony Point by photographers taking pictures along the CSX rail line, prompting a large response from police agencies and marine units.

http://liarcatchers.com/missing_persons_investigations.html

A 1992 black Lexus sedan parked near the site where the body was found matched the description of a vehicle driven by Forgione, an Eastchester resident who hasn’t been seen since late last week.

Forgione, 60, a landscaper, husband and father of two sons, was last seen at 2 a.m. Thursday leaving the Gavi restaurant in Armonk after a dinner with friends, family said.

Stony Point police Lt. Keith Williams said the body has not yet been identified. It appeared that the body had been in the water a day or two, he said

Investigators do not believe the body is that of Eugene Palmer, a 73-year-old man who disappeared into the woods of Harriman State Park more than a month ago after allegedly shooting to death his daughter-in-law.

The body was being taken to the offices of the Rockland medical examiner.

Among the responding agencies were: Stony Point police, the Rockland Sheriff’s Department, New York state park police, the Westchester County helicopter and marine units.

Pedophile TrackingPedophile to be Deported back to US

MANILA — An alleged child molester from the United States is now facing deportation following his arrest by authorities last week.

The suspected pedophile identified as Scott David Shrum, 46, will be immediately sent back to the US after the Bureau of Immigration (BI) issued the order for his summary deportation.

http://liarcatchers.com/pedophile_tracking.html

Shrum was arrested by authorities on October 17 at a remote farm in Barangay Mohon, Talisay City, Cebu. He is now under government custody 10 months after he fled to the Philippines to avoid prosecution in the US.

The suspect is wanted by a superior court in Sacramento, California for allegedly engaging in “three or more acts of sexual conduct with a child.”

Shrum is also reportedly the subject of an arrest warrant issued by a district court in eastern California for continuously moving from one US state to another to elude arrest.

The elusive, suspected pedophile arrived in Manila on December 29, 2011, and has never applied for extension of his stay as a tourist.

The US government revoked his passport last April 20, making Shrum both an overstaying and undocumented alien

Wrongful Death Wisc Mall Shooting UPDATE 3 Dead

BROOKFIELD, Wis. (AP) – Police in Wisconsin searched Sunday for a man suspected of killing three people and wounding four others in a shooting at a spa in suburban Milwaukee.

Police identified the suspect as Radcliffe Franklin Haughton, 45, of Brown Deer. Brookfield Police Chief Dan Tushaus said Haughton’s car had been found, but he was still at large.

http://liarcatchers.com/wrongful_death.html

The shooting happened about 11 a.m. at the Azana Day Spa, a two-story, 9,000-square-foot building across from a major shopping mall in a middle- to upper-class community west of Milwaukee.

An improvised explosive device was found at the spa, and a bomb squad was investigating, Tushaus said. Spokesmen for the FBI and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives said their agencies also had agents participating in the investigation.

The mall, a country club adjacent to the spa, a nearby hospital and other buildings were locked down as police searched for Haughton, local media reported.

Tushaus described the situation as “fluid and ongoing,” saying officers were initially focused on reaching and helping the victims.

Gina Kralik, a bartender at Red Robin Gourmet Burgers in the mall, said by telephone that the restaurant was still locked down as of about 3 p.m. She said 18 people were there — all employees except for a couple reporters who managed to get in. She said people were allowed to leave at one point, but then the police decided not to let anyone come or go from the mall.

“We’re just sitting watching the news and also trying to find out what’s going on,” she said.

Online court records showed a temporary restraining order was issued against Haughton in Milwaukee County Circuit Court on Oct. 8 because of a domestic abuse complaint.

Haughton appeared in court Thursday, when a no-contact order was issued and he was told to turn all his weapons over to the sheriff’s department.

Beth Strohbusch, a spokeswoman for Froedtert Memorial Hospital – the hospital that was locked down – said four shooting victims were taken there, none in critical condition.

It was the second mass shooting in Wisconsin this year. Wade Michael Page, a 40-year-old Army veteran and white supremacist, killed six people and injured three others before fatally shooting himself Aug. 5 at a Sikh temple south of Milwaukee.

The shooting at the mall took place less than a mile from where seven people were killed and four wounded on March 12, 2005, when a gunman opened fire at a Living Church of God service held at a hotel.

Missing Person PI Hired to Find Missing SC Teens

BLYTHEWOOD, S.C. – The days are ticking by and still, not a sign of 18-year-old Jake Ziegler or 17-year-old Ray Pierce. The boys, both from Sherrills Ford, NC, disappeared last Saturday. They were in Jake’s green Pontiac G6, on their way to Myrtle Beach. Jake had apparently just broken up with a girlfriend.

Social media is burning up. The “Help Find Jake and Ray” Facebook page has more than 22,000 “likes.” But with the attention comes theories and assumptions, to which Jackie Ziegler, Jake’s sister, pays no mind. She says pointedly, “I don’t assume anything. I go off of facts, my facts are cell phone tower pings, my facts are cell phone records.”

http://liarcatchers.com/missing_persons_investigations.html

The last communication from the boys was a text from Jake’s phone. Jackie says it simply read “we’re almost to the beach,” but private investigator Kevin Ryan hopes other messages are more revealing. He says, “There’s gonna be some investigation done where we’re gonna take a look at their steps leading up to October 13th and the early morning hours.”

While the PI digs into cell and bank records, family members still say the search crews are still vital. Ray Pierce’s uncle, also named Ray Pierce, says “Boots on the ground is (sic) important in any type of mission.”

Right now the search crews are focused along the highways in the Blythewood, South Carolina area. But the private investigator says that could change. “A different direction of investigation may happen based on what we find,” he says.

The private investigator also says he’s paying close attention to Facebook posts and tweets about the case.
