Pedophile Tracking Erika Susan Perdue Child Porn Charges

A wealthy Texas woman married to an attorney has been charged with collecting and trading child pornography online in what experts say is a rare case of a woman being caught up in such activity.

Erika Susan Perdue has been undergoing addiction treatment since her April arrest on federal charges that she accessed child pornography from the computer in her $1.4 million, 4,000-square-foot home in the well-heeled Dallas enclave of University Park.

http://liarcatchers.com/pedophile_tracking.html

FBI agents who raided the home found child pornography on the computer, and Perdue admitted she’d been collecting it for 12 years, according to court records. She told investigators she used file-trading software every day to exchange images while her husband, an attorney who specializes in intellectual property cases, was at work.

“I’ve seen cases of women collecting or trading child porn, but not very often and not somebody in that socio-economic strata,” said Nancy Hagan, the longtime executive director of the Alliance for Children, a Fort Worth child advocacy center.

A four-count indictment claims Perdue, 41, engaged in transporting, shipping, receiving and possessing child pornography. If convicted, she could face maximum prison sentences of 20 years for three of the counts and 10 years for the other.

She isn’t accused of creating the images.

The search of Perdue’s home was prompted by federal agents who, working undercover, logged into file-sharing programs and obtained 21 downloaded files containing child pornography, according to an FBI affidavit. The agents traced the IP address to Perdue’s home, the affidavit states.

George “Buck” Johnson, one of three attorneys representing Perdue in the case, declined to comment.

Perdue and her husband, Mark, have been married since December 2009, records show. Mark Perdue is not named in the criminal complaint.

According to a court filing by the defense team, Perdue has been undergoing unspecified treatment since her arrest at a center outside Dallas. The facility identified in the document specializes in addressing “addictive behaviors and associated conditions,” according to its Web site.

The filing says Perdue suffered a “serious psychiatric/medical setback” in early May, about two weeks after she was charged, making her unable to help with her own defense.

“Her counselor (at the center) remains optimistic that her mental state will improve with continued treatment, but not for several months,” the document states.

Toby Shook, a Dallas criminal defense attorney who previously served as a state court prosecutor, said he has seen cases where women were involved in the distribution of child pornography, usually under the direction of men. But he said he couldn’t recall one in which a woman was interested in trading or purchasing the images.

“It’s very rare that women have an interest in sharing files,” Shook said. “Almost all of the cases you see, as far as trading files, involve men.”

Two Dallas-area women have been sentenced to prison for federal offenses related to child pornography within the past year, but both were involved in creating sexually explicit images, not simply viewing them.

Psychiatrist Fred Berlin, director of the Sexual Behavior Consultation Unit at Johns Hopkins University, said it’s unusual for a woman to access images of child pornography but not outside the realm of possibility. Such a woman may have been abused herself as a child, he said.

“It’s the exception to the rule, but it’s certainly an exception that’s not unheard of,” Berlin said.

Berlin stressed that viewing or collecting child pornography doesn’t mean a person is likely to harm children.

“There are marked differences among people who are accessing these materials,” he said, “and one of the things we need to determine is the extent to which they do or do not reflect a danger to the community.”

Cold Cases Alejo Garcia Ramirez Arrested in 1991 Cold Case

A second defendant has been arrested in the 1991 slaying of an unidentified victim.

Alejo Garcia Ramirez, 41, was arrested Friday morning in Oklahoma, said Angela Weltin, a prosecutor with the Harris County District Attorney’s Office.

Houston Police Department investigators went to Oklahoma to assist with the arrest, and arrangements will be made for Ramirez’s extradition to Houston, Weltin said.

http://liarcatchers.com/cold_cases.html

Ramirez is charged with murder in the death of a man whose body was found Aug. 31, 1991, in the 1400 block of Gazin in the Denver Harbor neighborhood.

According to court records, Ramirez is a cousin of Benito Ramirez, who was arrested June 5 and is also charged with murder in the case. Benito Ramirez, 49, remained Friday in the Harris County Jail on no bond.

Autopsy results showed that the victim was stabbed 12 times and was shot nine times in the back of the head.

According to court records, the witness said Benito Ramirez boasted that he and Alejo Ramirez and two other men saw “Mario” drinking on the night in question at the former El Rey bar in the 6900 block of Lyons.

They lured him outside, where Alejo Ramirez stabbed the victim in the torso, records state. The victim tried to run away but the men caught him and forced him, alive and bleeding, inside the trunk of Benito Ramirez’s 1979 Chevrolet Impala, records state.

Then the men drove to a field on Lathrop near some warehouses and removed the victim from the trunk, according to the arrest warrant. Benito Ramirez allegedly shot the man in the head multiple times with his nine-shot, 0.22-caliber revolver, records state.

According to court records, the men left the body in a field at a location described as the intersection of Lathrop Street and Old Clinton Drive (near the 1400 block of Gazin).

Benito Ramirez was identified as a suspect after a man told police he had heard Benito Ramirez threaten to kill a man known to the witness as “Mario.”

“There’s the guy who took my papers. I’m going to kill him,” Benito Ramirez said several weeks prior to the August 1991 slaying, according to court documents.

Later, at a birthday party, the witness said he heard Benito Ramirez brag about killing “Mario.” Benito Ramirez also implicated a third man, who has not been charged, Weltin said.

According to the Harris County Institute of Forensic Science, the victim was Hispanic, between the ages of 25 and 35. He was 5 feet, 3 inches tall and weighed 141 pounds.

He was wearing a navy blue uniform shirt that said “CSB Asphalt” over the left pocket and “Marc” over the right pocket. His pants and socks were also navy blue, and he wore blue, beige and tan cowboy boots.

Weltin said police visited CSB Asphalt but don’t believe the man worked for the company.

Anybody who might have information about the victim should call Houston Police Department homicide investigators C. Cardenas or M. Burrow at 713-308-3600.

Arson Investigation Jason McInturff Charged

Tossed from a bar and wanting revenge a man decided to torch an employee’s car.

Investigators say he’s now facing arson charges for that crime.
Police have now charged 25 year-old Jason McInturff in the case that happened in April.

An arrest affidavit says McInturff was kicked out the Steer Bar on S.E. Military, and later used a rag to set fire to the gas tank of an employee’s car.

http://liarcatchers.com/arson_investigation.html

Arson investigators say McInturff stuffed the rag into the tank and set it on fire.

They say the employee went out to his car and McInturff taunted him.

The affidavit says as he rode away on a bicycle McInturff shouted “How do you like me now bitches?”

Arson investigators say they used surveillance cameras to identify McInturff.

They say on that video he is seen walkiing up to the car and opening the gas tank, then returning and stuffing a rag into the tank and setting it on fire.

Fraud Investigation US Army Colonel Johnson

KAISERSLAUTERN, Germany, June 16 (UPI) — A U.S. Army colonel has been sentenced to a reprimand and $300,000 fine for defrauding the government to help his Iraqi lover’s family, officials said.

Col. James H. Johnson III, former commander of the 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team, was convicted of fraud, bigamy, adultery and conduct unbecoming an officer, Stars and Stripes reported. He could be imprisoned if he fails to pay his fine but will be able to retire with his full pension.

http://liarcatchers.com/fraud_investigation.html

Greg Rinckey, a former judge advocate general, found the sentence troubling. He said the military jury in Kaiserslautern, Germany, might have been swayed by the plight of Johnson’s first wife, who stands to benefit from her husband’s pension.

Johnson’s military career is finished so the reprimand is “meaningless,” Rinckey said.

“Once again, it appears there are two different standards for officers and enlisted in the Army,” he added. “If this had been an enlisted soldier, you have to believe there would have been a reduction in rank and jail time. And that perception of different rules does become a problem.”

During a 2005 deployment, Johnson had an affair with an Iraqi woman and later married her while still legally married to his first wife. The woman’s family racked up $80,000 in calls on a government-issued cellphone supplied by Johnson, who also arranged for her father to become a “cultural adviser” in Afghanistan without having qualifications for the post.

Johnson pleaded guilty to 13 counts and was convicted of two others.

Fraud Investigation Jamar J Williams

FLINT, MI – A Flint man was sentenced to five years probation Tuesday for his role in a scam that bilked thousands of dollars out of insurance companies to pay for injuries that never happened.

Jamar J. Williams, 34, pleaded guilty in United States District Court to aiding and abetting mail fraud after authorities say he was paid to cash fraudulent insurance checks at an area party store.

http://liarcatchers.com/fraud_investigation.html

He was also sentenced to serve more than four months in a community center.

Williams’ involvement in the scam began nearly a decade ago when he was approached by two people asking him if he wanted to make money, court records show. The two individuals had Williams sign his name on a blank sheet of paper. Williams did not question what the signature would be used for.

An insurance policy was opened through AFLAC in Williams’ name in March 2008. A claim was filed on the policy in June 2008, stating that Williams was injured in May 2008 after lighter fluid exploded while he was barbecuing.

The claim, which included fictitious doctor reports, employment history and hospital bills, said that Williams received severe burns that led to a $49,033 hospital bill.

The insurance company issued a $23,199 check in Williams’ name. The check was cashed at Mikes Grocery on Pierson Road in Flint, court records show.

In April 2009, the Federal Bureau of Investigation interviewed Williams and showed him copies of five AFLAC checks that were made out in his name. Williams said the checks were given to him by three other individuals and they already contained his signature when they were given to him.

Williams said he was driven to Mike’s Grocery, which photographs and records each person cashing a check, by the individuals to cash the checks. He was given more than $300 for cashing the June 2008 check, according to court documents.

Patrick Cleary, Williams’ attorney, argued that his client was unaware of the scheme until he was approached to cash a check and the promise of money led him to become involved.

“When he was approached and asked to cash the first check, he was, like so many, in a dire financial situation,” Cleary argued in court documents.

Nine others were charged for their alleged role in the scam. However, the charges were dismissed against eight of them.

The only other person sentenced in the scam was Tony McMullen.

McMillen was sentenced to three years probation after pleading guilty to aiding and abetting mail fraud in January.

Wrongful Death James Lynn Jr.

A Winder man has been found guilty of killing his wife, whose body was found in a Georgia well.

Barrow County Clerk of Superior Court Regina McIntyre said a jury on Thursday found 42-year-old James Lynn Jr. guilty of murder, felony murder and aggravated assault.

The Gwinnett Daily Post reported that Lynn was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Authorities said the man’s wife, Tonya Faye Lynn, was found in the well about 20 to 30 feet below ground in July. An autopsy found that she died of injuries from blunt force trauma.

Police have said they began investigating after relatives reported the 38-year-old woman missing. Friends and family had become alarmed when the mother four didn’t show up for work at an Athens hospital.

Arson Investigation Kevin Ellison

Kevin Ellison, once one of the top defensive backs in the nation for the USC Trojans before being sidelined by a knee injury as a senior, has been arrested on federal arson charges after he reportedly told investigators he set his bed ablaze with a marijuana-filled cigar because “God” told him to.

According to local media, Ellison confessed to starting a fire that engulfed an apartment early Thursday morning in Liberty Lake, Wash., near Spokane, after initially telling authorities he had been smoking in bed.

http://liarcatchers.com/arson_investigation.html

Kevin Ellison, a top defensive back in 2008 with USC, reportedly told investigators he set his bed ablaze with a marijuana-filled cigar because “God” told him to.

Ellison, who played briefly for the San Diego Chargers after college, has been playing linebacker for the Spokane Shock of the Arena Football League.

Ellison reportedly jumped from the third-story unit but sustained only smoke inhalation.

Ellison, upon a follow-up interview in the hospital, confessed, citing the request by God, and said separately to another investigator “that he just wanted to get out of it and for it all to go away,” according to The Spokesman-Review, which cited federal court documents.

Spokane Valley Fire Marshal Kevin Miller told the newspaper federal arson charges were standard for arson cases involving large apartment complexes. Ellison was arrested later Thursday.

Ellison’s roommate and Shock teammate Chris Tucker said he was able to escape the fire after smoke detectors woke him. According to reports, Tucker checked on Ellison, who said, “I’m good,” but did not come out.

“He pounded on the door and it was too hot,” Miller told the Spokane, Wash., newspaper.

Tucker then notified neighbors and left the building before eventually finding Ellison outside.

Ellison had been behaving strangely recently, according to Shock owner Brady Nelson.

Nelson said Ellison had sent text messages to people Thursday night in which he claimed he was Jesus and was part of the Second Coming, KXLY-TV of Spokane reported.

Ellison, the only resident requiring hospitalization from the fire, was a sixth-round draft pick in 2009 by the Chargers, playing in 13 games and starting nine during his rookie season, during which he logged his only playing time in the NFL.

The Seattle Seahawks claimed Ellison off waivers the next season when they were looking for veteran depth in the secondary.

Ellison had played for Seahawks coach Pete Carroll at USC. He initially appeared to have a shot at earning a roster spot, but made little impact and was released within months.

While with San Diego, authorities arrested Ellison for suspected possession of a controlled substance. They reportedly found more than 100 Vicodin pills in his vehicle.

In 2005, Ellison earned playing time as a freshman at USC before tearing ligaments and suffering a fracture in his left knee while making a key interception late in a game against Arizona State.

Ellison recovered to become the Trojans’ most consistent defender in the successive three seasons before he tore cartilage in his knee midway through his senior year, during which he had played into contention for the Jim Thorpe Award as the country’s top defensive back.

Ellison has been suspended by the AFL pending results of the investigation, Nelson said to the Spokane TV station.

“If he truly did this, he’s never coming back,” Nelson said.

Missing Persons Jorry Palm Missing from Akron

A Niles woman is heartbroken because her son and only child, Jorry Palm, 28, has been missing since Saturday.

He was last seen leaving a bar in Akron, not too far from where he lives. Cheri Van Dyke said it’s not like her son to not call or text, and each day without him is terrifying.

“It’s like Jorry just fell off the face of the earth. There’s no sign of him,” said Dan Warner, Van Dyke’s boyfriend.

http://liarcatchers.com/missing_persons_investigations.html

“He’s been missing for seven days,” Van Dyke said.

Palm was last seen leaving Tiny’s Tavern in Akron. Van Dyke and Warner said two men and a woman were in the bar that night that no one knew, not even the bartender. Palm texted a friend, saying he was leaving.

“He walks out and a few seconds later, those three walk out, and he never made it home,” Van Dyke said.

Van Dyke said she just learned her son took money out of the ATM.

“He may have been coerced to get the money out for these people because they followed him out and we haven’t seen him since then,” Van Dyke said.

She said it’s uncommon to not hear from her son. The Akron Police Department is investigating the case and have labeled it as a “suspicious missing person.”

“In interviewing the family, friends and co-workers, this is not consistent with his normal behavior,” said Akron Capt. Daniel Zampelli. “If he’s not going to show up for work, he’d call and let them know. He checks in with friends. They go back and forth. So on and so forth. This is out of the ordinary for him to be gone this long without being in contact with family or friends.”

“It’s terrifying not knowing where my baby is at,” Van Dyke said.

“It’s almost like I’m waiting for a ride that’s never coming,” Warner said.

Palm is 5′-7″, weighs 180 pounds and has blonde hair and blue eyes.

“It’s like I’m lost, my heart is empty,” Van Dyke said.

“To me, he’s my son, and I want my son home,” Warner said.

Palm’s car, a 2007 red Mazda Z-6, Ohio License plate FDX 3947 also is missing.

If you have any information about this case, call Akron Police at 330-375-2490.
