Missing Person Jan Bronson of Greensprings, OR

A Greensprings resident, Jan Bronson, 64, has been missing from her home since Sunday night, leaving behind her phone but apparently disappearing with her car, a blue, 2004 Honda CRV.

Jackson County Sheriff’s deputies have been searching back roads but have not turned up any clues, said Detective Gabe Burchfiel. Bronson, a retired nurse, has been getting therapy for depression, he adds.

Bronson was last seen about 10 p.m. at her home at the head of Emigrant Lake, where she lives with her husband, Jim Bronson. Her brother, Craig Rasmussen, says there were no signs of struggle or abduction, no domestic issues and no signs of dementia or instability, no bank activity and nothing suspicious in her emails or other messages.

“Deputies are searching all the roadsides and spreading the missing person information,” says Rasmussen. Bronson was active in Ashland, with many friends, taking classes and going on local trail hikes, he adds. No one has heard from her since Sunday night.

“Family and friends have been unable to locate her at familiar places and have received no communications from her,” notes Rasmussen. “Bronson’s cell phone and iPad were left in her home, uncharacteristically, as she kept in daily communication with her wide circle of contacts.”

Her Oregon car license is CA18775.

Anyone who may have seen her or her vehicle or know anything about her disappearance is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office at 541-776-7206.

Missing Person Grandfather of Missing Idaho Toddler Believes He is Still Alive

The grandfather of the eastern Idaho toddler missing since last summer is holding out hope that he’s OK.

This comes as the private investigator hired to find DeOrr Kunz Jr. says there is evidence that he is not alive.

The Lemhi County Sheriff’s Office is also releasing new information on the case that has captured the attention of the entire country.

DeOrr’s family hired Klein Investigations and Consulting out of Texas to find the missing 2-year-old. Philip Klein tells KTVB that DeOrr wasn’t attacked by animals and wasn’t abducted. He believes he’s now dead, either by accident or intentionally.

http://liarcatchers.com/missing_persons_investigations.html

DeOrr Kunz Jr. has become a name people across the country are now familiar with.

On July 10, 2015, he went missing from a campground in Lemhi County where investigators say he was staying with his parents, great-grandfather and another man.

Ever since then, his grandfather, DeOrr Kunz, has been hopeful his grandson is OK.

“We know he is alive and we will stay with that until they show us something different,” said Kunz.

This comes despite grim news from private investigator Philip Klein who says he doesn’t believed DeOrr is still alive. We asked Klein via Skype if he has found any physical evidence of DeOrr’s death.

“I cannot comment on that right now, I will be up front and honest with the public and say there is forensic evidence,” said Klein.

Klein says after 80 interviews and hundreds of hours of investigation, a new witness has come forward. Klein believes in the weeks after DeOrr’s disappearance many were scared to share what they knew because of harsh criticism seen on social media.

“The case continues to build, the information continues to build, so I think people are comfortable with us now, and I think we are moving forward,” said Klein.

He says his team is getting close to solving the case and his investigators are heading back to Idaho soon for what he calls the second phase — reconstructing the crime scene and walking back through the timeline.

Meanwhile, DeOrr’s grandfather says his family continues to feel support from those in Idaho and across the country.

“It’s overwhelming the help and response we got from people, good-hearted people, and I thank you all very, very much,” said Kunz.

He says they just held a fundraiser this past weekend to raise money to pay for Klein’s services and says people’s donations were appreciated.

“I just want people to know that as far as my family is concerned my grandson is alive and that’s the way it is,” said Kunz.

Chief Deputy Steve Penner with the Lemhi County Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday he didn’t want to comment on Klein’s latest release, but did send a statement: “The Lemhi County Sheriff’s Office reports that new leads have developed in the missing person case of 3-year-old DeOrr Kunz. Investigators have obtained previously withheld information regarding the case and the investigation continues.”

Philip Klein says he has been in communication with the Lemhi County Sheriff’s Office.

Pedophile Tracking West Virginia Man Sentenced to at Least 75 Years in Sex Assault of Child

A Northern Panhandle man has been sentenced to 75 to 300 years in prison for helping his son rape a 9-year-old boy in 2014.

Media outlets report 72-year-old Karl Halstead of Newell was sentenced Tuesday in Hancock County Circuit Court.

http://liarcatchers.com/pedophile_tracking.html

A jury last month convicted Halstead of aiding and abetting first-degree sexual assault.

Judge Jason Cuomo called the crimes unspeakable. He issued the maximum allowable sentence Tuesday and told Halstead that if he had the authority to impose the death penalty, “you’d have it today.”

Prosecutors say the victim was stacking tires with two other friends for the Halsteads when he was assaulted.

Karl Halstead maintained his innocence after leaving the courtroom.

Halstead’s son, Kevin Halstead of Newell, was sentenced last year to up to 20 years in prison.

Private Detective: Man Breaks Into Business on Eureka Springs

One burglar never gave up when he failed in his first few attempts to break into a business on Eureka Springs.

“He brings with him a big rock and this guy isn’t going to win pitcher of the year or anything, he throws it twice at this window and it just bounces right off and comes back at him,” Detective Mark Thomas with the Lexington Police Department told LEX 18’s Kristen Pflum.

He even tried throwing his body weight at the window, which did not work.

The third attempt worked when he went to another window around the side of the store.

http://liarcatchers.com/contact.php

“This guy got lottery tickets, and some smokes and some quarter rolls,” said Thomas.”This is not a big score for anybody, but it goes to show you when these guys are hooked on drugs as bad as they are, breaking into stores like this. They’ll do anything just to get high.”

The burglar did not get away with much, but it is still a headache for the business owner because of the damage done to the store’s glass.

“If this guy has the nerve or gall, whether he’s intoxicated or high, if he’s predisposed to break into a convenience store in the middle of the night, you can bet he’s out there shoplifting and doing other crimes as well.”

Witnesses trying to sleep in homes near the business say that as the burglar fled the store, he was yelling, “come and get me, come and get me.”

Police describe the burglar as a white man, in his 20’s, around 5’8’’ and very thin.

If you know who he is, your information could earn you a cash reward.

Missing Person Lexington Man Who Wandered Off Found Safe

Lexington Police spent the morning searching for a missing man who wandered off in bitterly cold temperatures without shoes.

Police were searching for 77-year-old William Henry Cook. Cook lives with his wife at their home on Raleigh Court. When she woke up this morning he was gone.

Cook possibly suffers from dementia and had a stroke last year. According to family members he has difficulty moving and usually relies on a walker.

http://liarcatchers.com/missing_persons_investigations.html

He was not wearing shoes and was only in long johns, a t-shirt and a blanket. Police were especially concerned for his well being given the below freezing weather.

Cook was found sitting in his neighbor’s car on Raleigh Court. Albert Chenault came out and noticed Cook in the backseat. He told LEX 18 that he thinks that Cook believed he was in his own vehicle.

“”In this case, I’m glad I did leave the doors unlocked. I wouldn’t want anyone to be out here in this weather but if he had to find a warm spot, I’m glad my door was open for him, he just got right in there and crawled up in there and he was just sitting,” Chenault explained.

Family members are relieved that he was found safe.

“We knew he couldn’t have gone far, because he wasn’t on his walker and he was very unsteady, but to know he was okay, we’re extremely thankful to the Good Lord for keeping him safe,” Alyce Casey, Cook’s niece told Patrick Price.

Cook was taken to the hospital to be checked out but he is expected to be okay.

Fraud Investigation Warning of IRS Phone Scams

Joey Keys of the Better Business Bureau is warning Cape Girardeau residents of IRS phone scams.

Keys said the IRS scam is a favorite trope, and Cape Girardeau residents received them in October. With tax season getting into full swing, Keys expects scam calls to increase in frequency.

Jason Hutson received a call from a Washington, D.C., area code Tuesday that left a message saying the IRS was going to sue. When Hutson tried to call back Wednesday, he said he was routed to a man with an Indian accent, who hung up when Hutson asked to record the call.

http://liarcatchers.com/fraud_investigation.html

“Old people might give it thinking they owe money,” Hutson said. “I knew right away that it was a scam.”

Keys said some scammers are sophisticated enough to produce fake IRS badge numbers and to give names of real IRS employees found on the IRS website. The IRS sends a mail notice of taxes owed before any type of calls are made, Keys said. Keys also recommends never giving personal information unless you’re sure the person on the other end of the call is legitimate.

Cape Girardeau Police Department public information officer Richard McCall said the department hasn’t received calls about IRS scams, but he recommends avoiding tax-related identity theft. Warning signs for identity theft include having more than one tax return being filed under a resident’s Social Security number, the resident owing additional taxes and the IRS says the resident received income from a foreign employer.

Some ways to avoid identity theft include using strong passwords and using software with firewalls, avoid clicking on suspicious emails and not carrying Social Security cards. Phishing scams can be reported directly to the IRS.

Missing Person Remains Found During Search For Lake County, FL Man

Human remains were found at a Lake Kathryn home Monday as Lake County sheriff’s deputies searched for the home’s owner, Dennis Jones, who has been missing for a month.

Investigators have not determined if the remains are Jones’.

“He is still a missing person,” said Lt. John Herrell of the Lake County Sheriff’s Office. “Hopefully we will have a clear picture of what took place, soon.”

http://liarcatchers.com/missing_persons_investigations.html

Deputies responded to the home in the 45000 block of Pennsylvania Street at about 8:25 p.m. Sunday, after a neighbor called, concerned they had not seen Jones for weeks.

When they arrived at the scene, investigators could not locate the man or his truck, so a cadaver dog was brought in. The dog led investigators to the home’s backyard, and after obtaining a search warrant, human remains were found buried there, deputies said.

When asked at the scene, Jones’ neighbors said they were not very close to the man. Some described having a strained relationship with him, but someone was concerned enough to call the Sheriff’s Office when Jones wasn’t seen for a while.

“I’m just wondering what was going on,” said resident Grace McWilliams. “I didn’t know nothing about it until I saw this.”

Neighbors said a woman and her children had been staying at the home and using Jones’ truck for weeks.

The truck was found about a half mile away, parked at a neighbor’s home Sunday night, investigators said.

Deputies did not immediately release any information indicating anyone but Jones had been living at the home.

The medical examiner will be working to determine if the remains found belonged to Jones.

Investigation into the incident is ongoing.
