Private Detective: Teens Allegedly Plot Classmate’s Murder

A Harrison County family fears for their grandson’s life after learning of an alleged murder plot among teenagers.

Cynthiana Police said disturbing details revealed a Harrison County Middle School student was planning to kill one of his classmates

“There are kids that have enough money to get a hit man that’s crazy,” said the victim’s grandfather. “I’ve never heard such a thing.”

The victim’s grandfather asked LEX18 not to disclose his name to protect his family’s privacy.

http://liarcatchers.com/contact.php

He said since they learned of the alleged plot to murder the 12 year-old, they have decided to keep him home from school.

“He’s just so scared to death, keeps hidden in the car,” said the victim’s grandfather.

According to the arrest citation, Robert Webber, 19, and a friend met another teenager at First Stop in Cynthiana.

Investigators said that teen offered Webber $80 dollars to beat up the 6th grader or “$125 to slit his throat.”

The victim’s grandfather told LEX18 his grandson was best friends with the juvenile who, police said, made the deal and had even slept over his house this weekend.

“For this to happen for one of his friends to turn on him is unreal, it is unreal,” said the victim’s grandfather.

According to the victim’s grandfather, the juvenile was arrested and charged with soliciting murder.

Cynthiana Police arrested Webber Tuesday night.

Webber is lodged at the Bourbon County Detention Center and has been charged with conspiracy to commit murder.

“It makes me feel good that part but still what if somebody else is out there?”

The victim’s grandfather told us he’s not sure when or if his grandson will go back to school.

They’re going to wait until after Thanksgiving to make that decision.

According to the Bourbon County Detention Center’s website, Webber’s bond is set at $50,000.

Private Detective: Hacktivists Threaten To Target Law Enforcement Personnel

Law enforcement personnel and public officials may be at increased risk of being targeted by hacktivists. Hacking collectives are effective at leveraging open source, publicly available information identifying officers and public officials, their employers or associates, and their families. With this in mind, officers and public officials should be highly aware of their email account security and their online presence and exposure. For example, posting images wearing uniforms displaying name tags or listing their police department on social media sites can increase an officer’s risk of being targeted or attacked.

http://liarcatchers.com/contact.php

Many legitimate online posts are linked directly to personal social media accounts. Law enforcement personnel and public officials need to maintain an enhanced awareness of the content they post and how it may reflect on themselves, their family, and their employer, or how it could be used against them in court or during online attacks.

Threat

In a recent threat, a threat actor typically contacts the Internet Service Provider (ISP) of the target, poses as an employee of the company, and requests details regarding the target’s account. Utilizing these details, the caller then contacts the target’s email provider, successfully provides answers to security questions established for the email account, and is granted a password reset for the account. Ultimately, the actor gains access to the victim’s email account and begins to harvest personal or other information.

Threat actors may also target law enforcement personnel and public officials through doxing. Doxing is the act of compiling and posting an individual’s personal information without permission. The personal information gathered from social media and other Web sites could include home addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, passwords, and any other information used to target an individual during a cyber attack. The information is then posted on information-sharing Web sites with details suggesting why the individual should be targeted.

Recent activity suggests family members of public officials and law enforcement officers are also at risk for these types of targeting activity. Targeted information may include personally identifiable information and public information and pictures from social media Web sites.

Defense

While eliminating your exposure in the current digital age is nearly impossible, law enforcement officers and public officials can take steps to minimize their risk in the event they are targeted.

  • Enable additional email security measures, including two-factor authentication on your personal email accounts. This is a security feature offered by many email providers. The feature will cause a text message to be sent to your mobile device prior to accessing your email account.
  • Turn on all privacy settings on social media sites and refrain from posting pictures showing your affiliation to law enforcement.
  • Carefully evaluate the user settings for your online profiles. The default settings for some sites may allow anyone to see a user’s profile. Settings can be customized to restrict access to certain people.
  • Keep your social media footprint to a minimum, where possible, and actively monitor any accounts you maintain.
  • When posting on social media sites, do not provide details regarding your workplace, work associates, official position, or duties.
  • Do not promote your personal or professional importance in online profiles or postings, as this may make you a potential target for adversaries to exploit.
  • Limit your personal postings on media sites and carefully consider your comments.
  • Be aware of your security settings on your home computers and wireless networks.
  • Routinely update hardware and software applications, as old versions may be exploited by criminals as a way to access a computer. In addition, maintain up-to-date antivirus software, as attackers are continually writing new viruses.
  • Pay close attention to all work and personal emails, especially those containing attachments or links to other Web sites. These suspicious or phishing emails may contain infected attachments or links.
  • When setting up security questions for any of your accounts, avoid choosing questions with answers that can be easily verified (e.g., “What is your mother’s maiden name?”). Devise questions and answers that are known only to you. If the questions are already provided, devise answers known only to you. Try using secret meanings, irony, metaphors, or even “incorrect” responses that no one but you would be able to guess.
  • Passwords should be changed regularly. It is recommended that you create a password phrase of 15 characters or more, using a combination of uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, symbols, and special characters.
  • Do not store your login credentials on or near your computer. Memorize them or store them in a secure location away from your devices.
  • Be aware of pretext or suspicious phone calls or emails from people phishing for information or pretending to know you. Social engineering is a skill often used to trick you into divulging confidential information and continues to be an extremely effective method for criminals.
  • Advise family members to turn on security settings on ALL social media accounts. Family member associations are public information and family members can become online targets of opportunity.
  • Restrict your driver license and vehicle registration information with the Department of Motor Vehicles.
  • Request real estate and personal property records be restricted from online searches with your specific county.
  • Closely monitor your credit and banking activity for fraudulent activity.
  • Routinely conduct online searches of your name to identify what public information is already available.

Wrongful Death KY Resident Guilty of First Degree Manslaughter

A Fort Campbell, Kentucky, woman pleaded guilty today before Senior United States District Judge Thomas B. Russell to a Superseding Information charging her with first degree manslaughter in the death of an infant whom she was babysitting in December 2013, announced United States Attorney John E. Kuhn, Jr.

Sheilla E. Linares, age 22, is in the custody of the United States Marshals Service and will be sentenced in Louisville on February 24, 2016 at 11:45 a.m.

http://liarcatchers.com/wrongful_death.html

Linares, pleaded guilty to first degree manslaughter in the December 7, 2013 death of T.R.C., Jr.

According to the Plea Agreement, Linares admitted that on December 3, 2013, while on Fort Campbell Military Base, a special jurisdiction of the United States, located in Christian County, Kentucky, she provided babysitting service for an infant child, T.R.C., Jr. Three other children were also in the residence under Linares’ care that day, her two young children and T.R.C., Jr.’s three-year-old sister, A.C. No other adults were present in the residence during the day.

Between 3:00-3:30 p.m. Linares intentionally caused serious injury to T.R.C., Jr. Linares later admitted to law enforcement that it took her less than a second to realize that what she had done was completely wrong. She admitted to then putting the baby in the swing at which point, the infant became unresponsive. Linares stated that she then called the baby’s mother and 9-1-1.

An ambulance transported T.R.C., Jr. to the emergency room at the Army hospital located on Fort Campbell Military Base. His condition deteriorated and he was transported to Vanderbilt. While being treated at Vanderbilt, medical personnel noticed bruising that appeared on both of his shoulders as well as his left upper arm. Medical tests and examinations revealed bilateral subdural hemorrhage (approximately 25 ml total volume), focal subarachnoid hemorrhage, cerebral edema, bilateral optic nerve sheath hemorrhage, subdural blood throughout the spinal cord, and cervical nerve root hemorrhage. T.R.C., Jr.’s injuries were a result of Linares’ abuse. Those injuries led to his death.

On December 7, 2013, T.R.C., Jr., was determined to have insufficient brain activity to sustain life, and pronounced dead. The amended autopsy report of the Tennessee medical examiner lists the cause of death as blunt force injuries of the head and neck.

According to the Plea Agreement, Linares will be sentenced to 18 years in prison followed by a three-year period of Supervised Release. She faces a fine of up to $250,000.00. There is no parole in the federal system.

Assistant United States Attorney Jo E. Lawless is prosecuting the case. The Federal Bureau of Investigation, with assistance from the United States Army Criminal Investigation Division, and the Clarksville Tennessee Police Department, conducted the investigation.

Cold Case Police Search for Info on 8 Year Old Lexington Murder

It’s been eight years since a man was murdered in his Lexington apartment.

The man’s former fiancee is describing to LEX 18 what happened that night, hoping it leads to tips in the case.

Yolanda Johnson lived with Jermaine Howard at a complex on Lakeshore Drive. In August 2007, while Yolanda was showering, Jermaine was shot in their living room.

http://liarcatchers.com/cold_cases.html

Police received several tips, but never one specific enough to crack the case. They believed someone was hiding in the house waiting. Yolanda says she believes it had to have been someone who knew Jermaine.

“I always thought it was someone who knew him.  I always thought that because I didn’t think a random person would just pull up and do something like that,” Johnson told LEX 18.
If you have information on the murder of Jermaine Howard, you can leave your information anonymously on the Crime Stopper Tipline and earn a cash reward. That number is 859-253-2020
