Insurance Fraud 4 Indicted For Staging Crash in Trenton, NJ

Jonathan Desir was driving his Honda Civic through Paterson on Nov. 17, 2012 when it collided with another vehicle, but authorities say it was not an accident.

Subsequently, Desir and two other men riding in the car – along with a woman who claimed to be in the vehicle – filed insurance claims for more than $48,000 for treatment of injuries, according to state authorities.

http://liarcatchers.com/insurance_fraud.html

This week, Desir, now 22, of Elizabeth, and the three others were indicted on charges of insurance fraud for allegedly filing false claims, acting State Attorney General John Hoffman announced today.

A state grand jury in Trenton returned indictments against Desir; Makenson Clermont, 34, of Irvington; Jhonny Volmire, 26, of Newark; and Jana B. Philippe, 32, of Irvington, charging them with second-degree health care claims fraud, second-degree conspiracy and third-degree attempted theft by deception for their alleged parts in the scam, Hoffman said.

He said Desir and Clermont were additionally charged with second-degree insurance fraud, second-degree conspiracy and third-degree theft by deception for allegedly agreeing to share the cost of the insurance policy and stage a bogus accident to split the claim payout.

Desir, Clermont and Philippe were also charged with fourth-degree false swearing for fraudulent statements they allegedly made to investigators, authorities said.

The indictment, handed up in Superior Court, alleges that Clermont, Volmire and an unknown female were in Desir’s car when he intentionally drove the car into another vehicle on Crosby Place near Ward Street. Neither the other driver, nor the occupants of Desir’s car were hurt and the damage to both vehicles was minimal, according to the indictment.

Subsequently, the three men and Philippe, who assumed the role of the unknown female passenger, each filed a claim for PIP benefits with Liberty Mutual Insurance Company and received medical treatment for their alleged injuries, the court papers state.

Liberty Mutual paid Desir’s $5,736 collision claim, but refused to pay the $48,550 in claims submitted by health care providers, Hoffman said. He said the insurance company referred the matter to the state Office of Insurance Fraud Prosecutor, which investigated the case.

“These individuals not only put themselves at risk through their alleged scam, they put innocent pedestrians and other drivers at risk as well,” Hoffman said.

State acting Insurance Fraud Prosecutor Ronald Chillemi said staged accidents and bogus claims result in increased insurance premiums paid by law-abiding drivers.

Second-degree crimes carry a sentence of five to 10 years in state prison and a criminal fine of up to $150,000.

Wrongful Death Prosecutors Plan to Pursue Death Penalty in Shooting Death of A Marine

The two men accused in the murder of a Marine learned Friday that if they are convicted, the Commonwealth plans to pursue the death penalty.

The men are accused of killing Lance Corporal Jonathan Price outside of a Lexington bar.

Lexington police and prosecutors plan to try and prove that Quincinio Canada and Dawan Mulazim not only killed 26-year-old Price, but they shot his wife Megan and robbed them both.

http://liarcatchers.com/wrongful_death.html

Doing so would make both men eligible for the death penalty.

A grand jury indicted Canada and Mulazim just days after the one year anniversary of the murder.

Police said that three months after the murder of Price, the two accused men went on a lengthy crime spree that included car chases, multiple robberies and even another shooting.

Canada and Mulazim both face additional charges in Louisville that are unrelated to the shooting. Their attorneys asked the judge to allow them to stay in the Fayette County Detention Center which makes it easier for them to travel back and forth to their case.

Pedophile Tracking Elderly Man Who Admitted to Molesting Children

It was almost a year ago that LEX 18 first broke the story of Jack and Jerry Cassidy, former Boy Scout Volunteers accused of sexually abusing young boys decades ago. On Friday, Jack Cassidy was sentenced to 20 years in prison, the maximum sentence for the crime.

Jack Cassidy will go to prison for abusing and molesting young boys, many of them Boy Scouts at the time.  His twin brother, Jerry, is still too sick to be in court.

http://liarcatchers.com/pedophile_tracking.html

Lexington Police raided their Mason-Headley Road home nearly a year ago after receiving a tip. They found dozens of files and photos of the young boys the brothers were accused of abusing.

Police recovered  hundreds of pictures of young boys tied up, naked and kissing each other. They also found journals detailing the abuse.

Back in August Jack Cassidy pleaded guilty to the crimes and told the judge he didn’t remember much about the abuse because he “had taken it out of his mind.”

The Cassidy brothers lived a double life for years, singing at Bryan Station Baptist church and even singing at nursing homes.

After being sentenced Jack Cassidy apologized and then said that he and his brothers were “out of their minds then.”

The sentencing will be held at 1 p.m.

Private Detective: Garrard Co. Man Robbed During Craigslist Sale

A Garrard County man told investigators that he was robbed after a Craigslist sale went wrong.

The Garrard County Sheriff’s Office tells LEX 18 that the victim was searching for rims for his car on the online sales site when he started communicating with someone.

The two agreed to meet at a vacant lot near downtown Lancaster. When the buyer got out of his vehicle, he told police that two men charged at him, forcing him onto the ground. One man was armed with a knife and the other with a gun.

http://liarcatchers.com/contact.php

The two robbed the buyer, taking his cellphone, wallet and a green dot card with more than $1000 available credit.

The two who robbed the man were described as white men in their early 20s. There were two females with the men but there was no description of them. The vehicle that the suspects were in is a green Chevrolet pickup truck with tires in the back.

A man named Clarence Quinn was there after the victim was robbed. “He was scared to death,” said Quinn. “Was shaking and he asked us to call the police.”

Quinn said that the victim told him that the suspects responded to his Craigslist post.

“Tells them they’re going to rob him and he starts fighting with him and the other one says don’t struggle we’ve got a gun in the truck,” said Quinn.

Garrard Co. Sheriff’s Deputies are looking for the two suspects in connection to this robbery.
