Private Detective: Body Part Found Along KY River

A Jessamine county couple stumbled upon a disturbing discovery during a hike Wednesday afternoon along the Kentucky River.

“I just seen something laying there that looked like a hand,” said Kelly Brumfield, witness. “I didn’t know if it was animal but he said that looks like human.”

“You can see the acrylic nail, it had to be a she because it had acrylic nail,” said Richard Bryant, another witness. “There was flesh on the bone and everything.”

However, after spending several hours on the scene on Lock Number 7 Road, Jessamine county coroner couldn’t determine if the bones found were human.

“There’s a partial limb which consists of a hand and part of an arm,” said Michael Hughes, Jessamine county coroner. “That’s difficult for us right now and I can’t really say with any certainty whether that’s human or not.”

On Monday crews, from both Jessamine and Fayette counties, spent the entire day searching the Kentucky River near the Valley View Ferry after receiving a tip a body may be in the river but weren’t able to find anything.

According to a preliminary investigation, the Jessamine county coroner doesn’t believe the cases are connected.

“They would not be related primarily based on the decomposition of this material as opposed to a freshly submerged body,” Hughes said.

The coroner also said aside from the limb they also found several small bones along the river bank.

The hikers say the shocking discovery will keep them from hiking the area again.

“Oh yeah I ain’t gonna go hiking here no more,” Bryant said.

The coroner said the limb will be taken to the medical examiners office and he hopes to have a report Thursday morning.

Missing Person Man Missing In Red River Gorge Found Alive

The missing Madison County man who vanished in the Red River Gorge area has been found alive.

Officials confirm that Josh Adkins, the man missing since August 1, was found walking near the Powell/Wolfe county line.

Mike Sparks with Powell Co. Search and Rescue says that Adkins was spotted at 7:30 a.m and was picked up around 11:30 a.m. Wednesday morning. It’s a miraculous discovery after search crews spent two weeks combing the park.

liarcatchers.com/missing_persons_investigations.html

Adkins was last seen in the Koomer Ridge Campground. He suffers from mental illness and wandered away from the area. Family tells LEX 18 that he survived by eating corn, apples and drinking stream water.

Searchers used drones and dogs in the search for the missing man. But after several minor injuries and a threat of venomous snakes, the search was called off. More than 100 rescuers from 25 different agencies across the Commonwealth worked tirelessly until the point that the search was ended.

His family held out hope that Adkins was alive. “We still think he is walking,” Adkins’ aunt, Patricia Bailey told LEX 18 News at the beginning of the search.

The family began going door to door, distributing fliers and asking anyone they saw to see if they knew where the 31-year-old man could have been.

Sparks tells LEX 18 that it appears that Adkins was uninjured.

Pedophile Tracking Former Boy Scout Leader Pleads Guilty to Molestation Charges

Former Boy Scout leader Jack Cassidy pleaded guilty to molestation charges relating to incidents dating back to 1975 on Wednesday.

His twin brother Jerry was too ill to attend court.

Jack Cassidy pleaded guilty to nine sex-abuse related charges in a plea deal. Sentencing is scheduled for Oct. 16. A hearing for Jerry Cassidy will take place the same day.

Police charged Jack and Jerry Cassidy with child porn. Police say officers found hundreds of photos of young boys tied up, naked and kissing each other in the 77-year-olds’ home. After further investigation, police filed additional charges of sodomy, and indecent and immoral practices with another.

http://liarcatchers.com/pedophile_tracking.html

Police say they found journals documenting the abuse the twins are accused of. Investigators say there were records of practically every young boy in their Boy Scout Troop, including birth dates and a timeline. Investigators say there was a “poem book” about each child and two books containing logs of sexual abuse. Investigators described the records as “trophies.”

Jack and Jerry Cassidy stand accused of abusing children, mainly boy ages 8 to 15, from 1963 to 1985. The case that LEX 18 first broke, continues to get bigger as more people come forward claiming abuse by the twins.

Insurance Fraud Six South Louisiana Residents Arrested

Following a nearly two-year investigation, six south Louisiana residents were arrested for their involvement in an insurance fraud scheme, according to the State Police. Five additional suspects are still wanted.

In 2013, an insurance company told the State Police fraud unit about a suspected “staged crash ring” that had been operating for four years in the New Orleans area. Police said investigations showed 16 people had participated in the staged crashes between 2011 and May 2015.

http://liarcatchers.com/insurance_fraud.html

In July, with help from the 41st Judicial District Attorney’s Office, a grand jury investigation was launched.

State Police said Morgan City resident Chad Lightfoot, 43, often using a false identity, orchestrated four of the known crashes in Orleans Parish to commit insurance fraud.

On July 30, the grand jury returned indictments against 11 individuals on multiple counts of insurance fraud and conspiracy to commit insurance fraud. Lightfoot also was indicted on multiple counts of perjury and a count of identity theft.

Insurance agency representatives said more than $150,000 was fraudulently paid after a 2011 crash. They said later claims were denied once the connection between the parties was discovered and the fraud was detected.

As a result of the investigation, the following were arrested: Lightfoot; Irvin Escort, 35, of Scott; Cerrido Arias, 25, of New Orleans; Alex Jones, 30, of New Orleans; Dantrell Garrett Jr., 26, of Morgan City; and Denel Osburn, 41, of LaPlace.

The following are still wanted: Alex Young, 28, of New Orleans; Adrian Gibbs, 40, of New Iberia Parish; Raymond Saffrhan, 36, of New Orleans; Leslie Bienemy, 34, of Violet; and Lachicka Edwards, 29, of New Orleans.

Identity Theft Thief Sentenced to 7 Year In Prison

A prolific identity thief was sentenced Friday to seven years in prison for stealing personal information from 44 people and using it to make counterfeit checks and credit cards.

Junette A. Short used the fake credit cards and checks to go on shopping sprees in King and Pierce counties. Prosecutors say the 34-year-old got the personal information by burglarizing homes, prowling cars and stealing mail from as many as 100 people.

http://liarcatchers.com/identity_theft_investigation.html

Short pleaded guilty in June to nine counts of identity theft. Because the crimes were considered a “major economic offense,” prosecutors recommended Short be sentenced to 10 years in prison, according to prosecutors.

Instead, a King County judge sentenced the Pierce County woman to seven years. She was also sentenced for possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of stolen property, and two separate identity theft cases from 2014
