Wrongful Death Man Accused in Jessamine County Murder Pleads Not Guilty

A Jessamine County man suspected of murder appeared in court following a brutal attack on Friday.

Deputies made a quick arrest in the death of a man found on a home’s porch. However, Thomas Carson claims he is innocent in the death of Shane Washington. The body of Washington was found on Carson’s porch.

The mother of  Carson immediately talked with LEX 18  following his arraignment this morning. She told reporter Evan Gorman that she’s proud of her son for finally standing up for himself.

“I would have done the same thing, I’m sorry to say but I would, I can’t help it,” said Rose Boular.

Carson appeared in Jessamine County district court through video conference. He pleaded not guilty and will be appointed a public defender.

His mother tells me her son was picked on often, occasionally beaten and believes he acted in self defense. She’s hoping surveillance footage will show her son is innocent.

“I didn’t hit the man,” the bruised and bloody suspect, Thomas Carson told LEX 18’s Josh Breslow while in the Jessamine County Detention Center. “I did not kill that guy. He kicked my fence down and he came through my house and broke in my house and hit me in the head with a brick.”

Carson said, after that alleged attack, he pushed Washington out onto his porch, three times, and he said it’s possible the victim hit his head and died. Washington’s daughter said she does not believe that.

Private Detective: FBI Enlisting Public Help to Uncover Corruption in KY

Federal crime-fighters started an outreach campaign Friday to recruit Kentuckians to help uncover government corruption and end the state’s “fairly sordid” history of scandals that rob trust in government, law enforcement officials said.

The FBI’s “End Corruption Now” campaign includes an anonymous, toll-free tip line and an email address to allow people to report suspicions of wrongdoing by public officials. A billboard campaign in several communities will publicize the effort.

http://liarcatchers.com/contact.php

Similar initiatives are underway in a few other places in the country, but Kentucky “was ripe” for the anti-corruption campaign because of its “fairly sordid history,” said Howard S. Marshall, special agent in charge of the FBI’s Louisville Division.

Between 2003 and 2012, about 300 people were convicted of federal crimes related to public corruption in Kentucky, officials said.

And a 2014 study by Harvard’s Center for Ethics identified Kentucky as one of the country’s most corrupt states, they noted.

“We should expect nothing but integrity from every public-sector employee and every representative,” Marshall said at a news conference at FBI headquarters in Louisville. “To accept less is to accept the public perception our state is no better than its reputation.”

The state’s two U.S. attorneys, Kerry B. Harvey and John E. Kuhn Jr., vowed to pursue any evidence of corruption revealed by the campaign.

“I can promise you this: If public corruption is reported, it will be investigated,” said Kuhn, the U.S. attorney for the western half of Kentucky. “If the investigation reveals evidence of a federal crime, it will be prosecuted.”

The tip line and email address will allow people to “come out of the shadows” to contact law enforcement officials, Marshall said.

“It’s not a problem that’s not unknown here,” he said. “It’s talked about openly. In some parts of the state, it’s talked about even more openly.”

Public corruption takes many forms — embezzlement, bribery, kickbacks, extortion, vote buying and voter intimidation, officials said.

The vast majority of public officials in Kentucky serve “honorably and honestly,” said Harvey, the U.S. attorney for the eastern half of Kentucky.

But those public leaders who become corrupt do more than steal public money, he said.

“They steal the confidence in government’s effectiveness,” he said.

Also on the radar for federal officials will be upcoming audits of hundreds of taxing districts across Kentucky that collect revenue for an array of local government entities. The FBI said it will work with state watchdog officials if the audits reveal any wrongdoing.

The state has been plagued by high-profile public corruption cases through the years.

In the early 1990s, the state General Assembly was rocked by a bribery and influence-peddling scandal known by its FBI code name, Operation Boptrot.

Former state Agriculture Commissioner Richie Farmer was sentenced to prison in 2014 for abusing public office. Farmer, a former University of Kentucky basketball star, admitted to hiring friends and having them do little to no work and using state employees to build a basketball court at his home.

Earlier this year, former Morgan County Judge-Executive Tim Conley was sentenced to prison for raking in more than $100,000 in a kickback scheme that continued even as his eastern Kentucky constituents struggled to rebuild from a deadly 2012 tornado.

Private Detective: Franklin Co. Sheriff’s Department Comes up With Unique Search for Drug Dealers

In an attempt to get drug dealers off their street, the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department  has come up with a hilarious way to get the information of those peddling narcotics.

In a post to their Facebook page, a photo reads  “Attention Drug Dealers. Is your drug dealing competition costing you money? We offer a free service to help you eliminate your drug competition!”

The form  then goes on to ask for the name, address, phone number, vehicle description and hours of the said drug dealer.

http://liarcatchers.com/contact.php

It’s a hysterical way for the sheriff to get real information on those selling narcotics in Frankfort.  But Sheriff Pat Melton and his crew are serious. The post goes on to ask  for tips and information.

There is no word as to whether or not anyone has been turned in via the ruse. The idea initially came, according to dispatch, from a post from a Georgia police department.

If you do have information on narcotic activity in Frankfort, call the Franklin Co. Sheriff’s Office at 502-320-3306.

Wrongful Death Manhunt for Man Who Killed Memphis, TN Police Officer

An urgent manhunt is underway for the person who murdered a police officer in Memphis, Tennessee.

Police say 29-year-old Tremaine Wilbourn shot Officer Sean Bolton multiple times Saturday night. Investigators report Wilbourn was a passenger in a vehicle Bolton approached during a traffic stop.

A neighbor used Bolton’s radio to call for help for the injured officer, but he died at a hospital.

Wilbourn is no stranger to law enforcement, and police are warning the public.

“Wilbourn is still at large and a warrant for first-degree murder has been issued for his arrest. Wilbourn is out on supervised release by the U.S. Western District Court for a 120-month sentence for robbery of a banking institution. He is considered to be armed and dangerous,” said Memphis Police Director Toney Armstrong.

The driver of the vehicle fled the scene after Bolton’s shooting, but turned himself in to police Sunday.

Investigators say he was released.

Wrongful Death Body of Utah Woman Found in Duffel Bag in Seattle

Police in Washington state said Friday that a body found in a duffel bag near a Seattle apartment complex trash bin is that of a 23-year-old Utah woman.

The decomposed body of Jenna K. Ferguson was found Monday by a maintenance worker, according to King County sheriff’s authorities.

http://liarcatchers.com/wrongful_death.html

Sgt. Stan Seo said Ferguson had been in Seattle for a drug rehabilitation clinic with Gethsemane Ministries Church. She was last seen on July 7 or 8 after she walked away from the clinic.

The woman last lived in Payson, Utah, according to Seo.

Ferguson’s aunt, Cody Dame, said in a statement Friday that their family is “heartbroken” over the woman’s death.

“Jenna was a generous, tender, loving person who could make anyone laugh,” Dame said. “We are touched by the tremendous love and outpourings of kindness we are receiving. Please respect our sorrow and privacy as we struggle through this very difficult time.”

Ferguson’s family lives in Salem, Utah, according to Salem Police Chief Brad James, who said he understood that Ferguson had moved away some time ago.

James said no missing person report for Ferguson had been filed with his department, adding that he has not spoken with the King County Sheriff’s Office about the woman.

Utah court records show Ferguson has a criminal history that includes misdemeanor and felony convictions dating back to 2011, including convictions for burglary and theft. Most recently, she pleaded guilty to shoplifting in 2014, a class A misdemeanor, for which she was sentenced to jail.

Seo said detectives are still trying to piece together what happened to Ferguson, whose cause of death was still not determined as of Friday.

“We definitely don’t have anybody in custody,” he said Friday. “We’re still trying to determine if this is a homicide or not.”

Seo said if anyone has information about Ferguson’s death, they are urged to call the sheriff’s office at 206-296-3311.
