Private Detective: Additional Details For Wife That Was Shot in Back

Investigators in Powell County say a man admitted to shooting his wife because she wanted to put him a psychiatric hospital.

Gary Morrison, 67, is charged with first-degree assault. He was arrested shortly after the shooting Wednesday evening at the couple’s home on Charlie Lane in Stanton.

“He came up behind me and asked me if I knew a phone number and I said no,” Jan Morrison told LEX 18’s Josh Breslow. “I turned around and looked at him and he had a gun pointed at me.”

http://liarcatchers.com/contact.php

At the time, Jan said she was simply standing over a sink in her home. She said she never imagined her disabled husband, the “fragile” man who used a walker to get around, would try to kill her.

“I turned back around with my back to him and he shot me in the back and I got to my knees and realized, ‘I don’t think I’m gonna die. Let me get out the door’.” Jan said. “The policeman said there were other shells lying on the floor and he was getting ready to shoot me again.”

Jan was flown to UK Hospital, where she was treated and released.

“It was a through and through down at the bottom of my rib cage,” said Jan. “Because there was no organs or ribs hit, it was in a good place, if you could say that.”

An arrest warrant claims Gary Morrison “advised he had shot his wife in the back in an attempt to kill her because she was attempting to place him in a psychiatric hospital.”

Jan said Gary had been weaning himself off some medication and she believes his altered mental state led to the shooting.

“I still love him and I want to help him in whatever way I can,” Jan said.

No bond has been set for Gary. He is set to be arraigned on Friday morning.

LEX 18 reached out to Gary in the Powell County Detention Center for his side of the story. Staff at the jail said he was “not in the mental state” to speak to the media.

Insurance Fraud Allstate Adjuster Arrested

A former Allstate adjuster and her brother were arrested this week for allegedly bilking more than $79,000 from her employer.

Arleatha Martin and Christopher Lorenzo Battle were each charged with seven counts of insurance fraud, seven counts of theft by deception and three counts of identity fraud, according to a release from the Georgia Insurance Department.

The arrests are the result of a long-term investigation conducted by the department’s fraud division. Investigators discovered that between 2011 and 2012, Martin used her position as a claim adjuster and supervisor to construct fraudulent accident claims in her brother’s name.

http://liarcatchers.com/insurance_fraud.html

In one filing, Martin even added the identities of three of Battle’s children to a claim involving a bus accident that resulted in a settlement payment of $6,375.00. The payment was meant as compensation for Battle’s children’s injuries, yet fraud investigators discovered the children were neither on the bus nor involved in the accident at all.

Together, Martin and Battle settled payments through Allstate reaching $79,538.71. Martin would direct the payments to Battle’s heating and air business – Mechanical Energy Solution – and then the siblings would split the proceeds.

Allstate first missed the money in late 2013 during a routine audit. The carrier reported the fraud to the insurance department.

If convicted, the siblings could face two to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000. In Georgia, insurance fraud is a felony.

Georgia Insurance Commissioner Ralph Hudgens celebrated the arrest as beneficial for the insurance community and consumers in the state.

“Insurance fraud ultimately hurts the Georgia consumer, who ends up paying higher premiums to cover losses from fraud,” Hudgens said. “My office will continue to aggressively pursue all types of insurance fraud.”

Pedophile Tracking Convicted Offender Pleads Guilty To Child Porn

A convicted sex offender from Milton pleaded guilty Wednesday to having over 5,000 images of child pornography while he was on probation.

Eric R. Aldrich, 24, pleaded guilty to receiving child pornography and is now facing anywhere from 14 to 40 years in federal prison, according to U.S. Attorney Charles M. Oberly, III.

http://liarcatchers.com/pedophile_tracking.html

Aldrich was convicted of dealing in child pornography in October 2011 and was sentenced to 15 years in prison.

However, his sentence was suspended after two years and he was released in May 2014.

A month after he was placed on probation, the Delaware Child Predator Task Force received a cybertip about a YouTube user, identified as Aldrich, uploading child pornography files.

On June 18, the task force executed a search warrant at his home and found computers that contained over 5,000 pictures and 200 videos of child pornography, most of which showed young girls being sexually abused by adult men and young teen girls on webcams, Oberly said.

Aldrich will be sentenced Aug. 7 by Chief United States District Judge Leonard P. Stark

Wrongful Death Body Found in Burned Car in Oldham County

Police in Oldham County say the person found dead inside a car after it burned early Tuesday morning did not die of natural causes.

A passing driver spotted the burning car straddling both lanes of KY-393 near US-42 shortly before 2 a.m. and called 911. Police say the car was fully engulfed when crews arrived. Firefighters found the body inside after the fire was extinguished. Police say they suspected foul play almost immediately.

http://liarcatchers.com/wrongful_death.html

“Based on the way the body was located in the vehicle, as well as some additional things that I can’t comment to, it was apparent to us that it wouldn’t have been a natural cause,” Sgt. James Brown said.

Officials say the car revealed some clues, but not enough to make a positive ID on the victim.

“The car was a Kia sedan. My firefighters saw Florida plates on it,” North Oldham Fire Chief Tim Conway said.

Officials say the medical examiner determined the sex of the victim, but did not released any information to the public.

“We believe the victim is local, from the Kentuckiana area,” Brown said. “We’re trying to reach out to a family member to determine whether or not the person who is associated with the vehicle is in fact the person we found deceased.”

Pedophile Tracking Former Wichita Police Sergeant to Stand Trial

A former Wichita police sergeant will stand trial on numerous child sex crime charges.

Alex Robinson appeared in court Wednesday for a preliminary hearing. He’s accused of crimes that happened from 2000 to 2012, with boys ranging in age from 11 to 14.

Robinson was arrested in January 2013 after a 24-year-old man came forward, alleging sex crimes that happened more than a decade before. Police found other potential victims during the investigation. He was formally charged in March, 2014.

http://liarcatchers.com/pedophile_tracking.html

Three people testified during Robinson’s preliminary hearing today. The three, all young males, accused Robinson of inappropriate sexual behavior.

Following testimony Wednesday, a judge bound Robinson over on two counts of aggravated criminal sodomy, four counts of aggravated indecent liberties with a child and two counts of indecent liberties with a child. His trial has been scheduled for July 6.

Robinson was a 22-year veteran of the Wichita Police Department when he retired in 2006 to take a job as security supervisor with Wichita Public Schools. In 2007, then-President George W. Bush was in Wichita and presented Robinson an award for volunteering more than 17,000 hours at the Boys and Girls Club.

In addition to the local case, Robinson is also facing similar crimes in Colorado. Last year, he was charged with two counts of sexual assault of a child in a position of trust. The alleged crimes there happened in 1996 while Robinson was visiting the state.

A Mt. Sterling, Ky., man, who previously admitted to being responsible for the distribution of 20,000 prescription pills in Montgomery County, has been sentenced to 150 months in federal prison.

On Friday, April 24, U.S. District Judge Danny C. Reeves sentenced Jeffrey Scott Wingate, 52, for possession with intent to distribute Oxycodone. Wingate was also ordered to forfeit approximately $200,000, several firearms, and two vehicles.

http://liarcatchers.com/contact.php

Judge Reeves also sentenced Charles Michael Spence, 39, of Mt. Sterling, to 81 months for conspiring to distribute Oxycodone. Spence acknowledged he was responsible for the distribution of 14,000 Oxycodone pills. Under federal law, both defendants must serve at least 85 percent of their prison sentence and will be under the supervision of the U.S. Probation Office for three years, following their release.

In November 2014, Wingate and Spence pleaded guilty to the drug charges and admitted that, from September 2013 through June 12, 2014, they conspired with co-defendant, Eric Gonzalez, aka Joel Ramon Hipolito, and others to distribute Oxycodone pills. Judge Reeves previously sentenced Gonzalez to 200 months in prison for his role in the conspiracy.

According to Wingate’s plea agreement, he also acknowledged that he conspired to distribute approximately five ounces of heroin.

Kerry B. Harvey, United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Kentucky; Howard Marshall, Special Agent in Charge, Federal Bureau of Investigation; Rodney Brewer, Commissioner, Kentucky State Police; David Charles, Chief, Mt. Sterling Police Department; and Fred Shortridge, Montgomery County Sheriff, jointly made the announcement.

The investigation was conducted by the FBI, Kentucky State Police, the Mt. Sterling Police Department and the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant United States Attorney Robert M. Duncan, Jr., prosecuted this case on behalf of the federal government.
