The Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help in locating an at-risk North Carolina man whose family hasn’t heard from him since Saturday, a sheriff’s lieutenant said today.

Mark Evans, 50, is described as a white man who is 6 feet tall and 140 pounds with a receding hairline and a ponytail. He frequently wears jeans, T-shirts, glasses and a baseball hat, according to sheriff’s Lt. Kelly Kent.

Evans is driving a gray 2006 Toyota Corolla with North Carolina plates. He’s believed to be familiar with the Santa Cruz area and may be on the west side of Santa Cruz or the North Coast of the county, according to Kent.

Evans is believed to have medical issues that could place him at risk if he isn’t located soon, Kent said.

Lexington Police obtained an arrest warrant Wednesday for Alberto Piñedas Contreras, the 28-year-old man suspected of shooting a 9-year-old child in the head over the weekend and sources tell LEX 18 that Contreras was released from the Fayette County Detention Center Wednesday morning before this most recent arrest warrant was issued.

The shooting happened just before 6 p.m. Saturday near Russell Cave Road and Hollow Creek Road. Police said the victim was riding in the car with his parents and two other siblings, when he was hit in the head by a bullet.

Contreras was being held in jail for non-payment of fines. He was in jail a little over two hours. He was released and shortly after police issued his arrest warrant in connection with the Russell Cave Road shooting.

Contreras is wanted on a charge of first-degree assault. He could be driving a four door, blue-colored, 2001 Kia Rio with Kentucky license plate #855-BDB.

Troopers are currently conducting a death investigation at the Markland Dam on the Ohio River located in Gallatin County. Post 5 dispatchers received a call at 1:29 p.m. Thursday reporting that a body had been located floating in the water near the dam.

At this time the cause of death is unknown. Next of kin is pending.

Kane County couple Gwendolyn and Glen Ames are facing various charges in connection with sexual abuse of children in Kanab and Tooele.

Glen Ames was charged by Kanab officials for sexual abuse of a child, forcible sodomy of a child, forcible sexual abuse of a child and child abuse and neglect. He was booked into Kane County Jail on $550,000 bail.

He is also facing charges in Tooele of 10 counts sodomy of a child, two counts aggravated sexual abuse of a child, three counts of dealing in materials harmful to minors and three counts lewdness involving a child, according to court documents.

The proposed bail in Tooele’s case has been listed as $250,000.

Tooele officials have charged Gwendolyn Ames with aggravated sexual abuse of a child, two counts sodomy of a child, three counts dealing in materials harmful to a minor and three counts lewdness involving a child, court documents indicated.

According to court documents, she was charged in Kanab with child abuse/neglect and was held in Kane County Jail on $100,000 bail since December but was transferred to Purgatory Correctional Facility Tuesday on an agency transport hold.

She will face charges in Tooele County.

According to probable cause statements, the couple was arrested and charged in December after authorities were called in to investigate possible abuse of children.

It was alleged Glen Ames, 39, abused children in Tooele and Kanab, and that Gwendolyn Ames, 36, took part or watched, according to the probable cause statements.

Warrants for the couple were sent out March 3 by 3rd District Court Judge Robert Adkins before being recalled because the couple was already incarcerated, court papers indicated.

According to court papers, Glen Ames’ case was bound over for trial by 6th District Judge Marvin D. Bagley and is waiting for a waiver hearing set for Thursday at 10 a.m. in Kanab.

A woman recently reported missing in Asheville may have actually disappeared 21 years ago from New Jersey.

“I have spent 21 years looking for Renee. My parents died looking for Renee,” her sister Margaret LaManna said by phone Tuesday afternoon.

A Silver Alert was issued Monday for Renee LaManna, 56, on Monday. She was last seen hitchhiking near the TA Truck Stop in Haywood County.

The North Carolina Center for Missing Persons reports LaManna disappeared in 1994 from her sister’s home in Ocean City, New Jersey when she was 35.

The center says LaManna suffers from Dissociative Fugue Disorder, which could cause her not to remember her name or how long she’s been away.

Her family believes she may be hitchhiking to Florida.

Along the way, she has been spotted several times throughout Western North Carolina, even being dropped off on Patton Avenue in October by a police officer who did not realize she was missing.

“The officer checked everything based on the information the lady gave and there was nothing flagged that there was anything wrong, just a person passing through Asheville and that happens all the time and since then we found out it was the young lady that was missing,” said Sgt. Scott Lunsford with the Asheville Police Department.

Deputies have arrested a McCracken County youth pastor accused of having a sexual relationship with a teenager.

Deputies say they opened an investigation after receiving a tip that Michael E. Parsons, 44, of Kevil, had engaged in a sexual relationship with one of the youth at Milburn Chapel Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Investigators say the girl was 16 years old when the relationship began in 2013. Deputies say it continued through 2014. Investigators say Parsons had sex with the girl during youth group meetings and when he took her home. They say there were additional sexual encounters at Parson’s home.

Deputies also say Parsons exchanged explicit photos and videos with the teen via text message.

Deputies arrested Parsons and charged him with two counts or rape and 22 counts of electronic solicitation of a minor for sex.
