Missing Person Body of Leadville, CO Student Found in Remote Area

The body of a missing college student in Leadville was found Friday morning with the help of Colorado Forensic Canines.

Colton Wilson was last seen Thursday, January 29th. His body was found about 50 yards off a popular trail in a remote area on the campus of Colorado Mountain College.

Mike McHargue, the Lake County Emergency Manager said, “It was about 50 yards from that in an almost un-trafficable area.” He added, “It’s very difficult, even with snow shoes or skis, to go very far unless you’re on a trail.”

http://liarcatchers.com/missing_persons_investigations.html

Colorado Mountain College encompasses more than 250 acres and most of it is open space.

Search and Rescue teams began looking for Wilson Saturday after his father filed a missing person’s report. Then, the Sheriff’s Office confirmed he wasn’t with friends.

Lake County Sheriff Rod Fenske said, “Those leads all went dry pretty quick, so as we continued to look, everything seemed to lead us back to the Colorado Mountain Campus.”

Initial reports had Wilson leaving the dorm in pajama bottoms and loafers, but he was found wearing snow pants and a ski jacket. Sheriff Fenske said, “He went back to the dorm, apparently, and changed.”

He was last seen with a snowboard, but that snowboard was not found with his body.

Now investigators are trying to determine how long he’d be out there. “There’s no way to really tell that and the only way to tell that is through body temperature and that’s hard to say, so he could have been there eight days or, you’re correct, he could have come back and forth from the college where nobody saw him,” Sheriff Fenske said.

The Sheriff’s office doesn’t suspect any foul play. They said the reason the dogs weren’t brought in sooner is simply because they’re cadaver dogs and those aren’t used immediately in a missing person’s case.

It was in fact Wilson’s father who helped bring in Colorado Forensic Canines to help in the search.

Wrongful Death Arrest Order Issued for Teen Murder Suspect

An order of arrest has been issued for a Lexington teenager already on home incarceration for his alleged role in a 2014 murder.

Fayette County Circuit Judge Pamela Goodwine signed the order that said 17-year-old Nasheim Dixon violated his conditions of release, which includes not possessing, or being in the presence, of any guns or other weapons.

Dixon was indicted in the April 2014 murder of Antonio Franklin, a 21-year-old bystander gunned down in Lexington’s Duncan Park. The teenage suspect was released from custody into home incarceration in December 2014.

http://liarcatchers.com/wrongful_death.html

Court documents obtained by LEX 18 say, Tuesday, a Lexington Police officer heard gunfire along Osage Court and he “determined that the shots were fired from [Dixon’s] residence.” When officers arrived, they said they “recovered a stolen 9mm handgun from [Dixon’s] younger brother” and “68 9mm shells from [Dixon’s] pocket.”

According to police, bullet holes were found in surrounding buildings and officers took Dixon’s younger brother into custody. On Wednesday, an order was issued for Dixon’s arrest, as well.

“We’re talking about a murder trial. We’re talking about an innocent victim,” Antonio Franklin’s mother, Anita told LEX 18’s Josh Breslow on Friday. “Just what I thought might happen, did happen. There were people that could’ve been injured the other night, or even murdered.”

Franklin added, “[Dixon] was able to get out, enjoy the holidays with his family. Where’s Antonio? Where are other innocent victims that lost their lives, last year? They can’t do that… Somewhere, there is a break in our system and [Dixon] just needs to be held accountable.”

Lexington Police said Dixon was not taken into custody on Tuesday because he was not the primary suspect in the shots fired incident and, considering the circumstances, it was an issue for the courts and for probation and parole.

Wrongful Death State Seeks Death Penalty in Scott County Murder Case

The death penalty is now on the table for the man accused of murdering a retired Scott County School bus driver. The news broke in court Friday afternoon, five years after Sue Jones was beaten to death in her home. It was a moment her family said they have been waiting for.

Sue’s daughter, Gail Jones has never given up since her mother was killed. For five years she’s been fighting for her mom, and fighting for one thing.

“Let her know it’s over, that justice has been done,” said Gail. On Friday she said she was one step closer to that justice for Sue.

http://liarcatchers.com/wrongful_death.html

“I am totally surprised and I am totally happy. You know, now we are definitely going for the death penalty,” said Gail.

In court Friday afternoon, the Scott County Commonwealths Attorney announced they are seeking the death penalty against Nick Willinger. Willinger is accused of beating Sue to death during a botched burglary in February of 2010.

Last month Ciji Jefferson, Sue’s former neighbor, plead guilty to complicity to commit burglary for driving Willinger to the crime. Before Willinger and Jefferson were arrested in January of 2014, the case had been cold for four years.

“Last year was their arrest, and it blew me away, it totally blew me away… And now, another year later, it’s like wow,” said Gail. Her relentless determination to find her mother’s killer, feels like it’s coming to a close.

“Honestly, I would like to watch him die,” said Gail. “That way he will feel the pain, the pain that she had to feel.”

While the state is seeking the death penalty, that outcome depends on the trail. Gail said Willinger’s trial is set for January of 2016, and Jefferson is scheduled to be sentenced afterward. Gail said she wants a guilty verdict in Willinger’s trial, and then some answers.

“Why would you do this? I just don’t get it,” said Gail. While she may never know why, she hopes to have closure by this time next year, for the sixth anniversary of her mother’s death.

“Let’s celebrate the greatness of mom’s life, let’s celebrate that justice is going to be done,” said Gail.

Wrongful Death Man Sentenced to 20 Years in Beating Death of His Girlfriend

A man who pleaded guilty in the beating death of his girlfriend received his sentence.

Brian Reed was charged with beating Gypsy Reyes to death in May of 2013. Reed pleaded guilty in December to manslaughter and was sentenced to 20 years in jail.

Friends have said all along this was a case of domestic violence. Friends of Reyes even held vigils and fundraisers to bring awareness to the crime and fought to get tougher domestic violence laws in place.

The young mother of two wasn’t found until the morning after the incident. Her sisters have been very attentive to Reed’s court proceedings but say when it came to the plea deal, they were left in the dark.

Reed was also sentenced to 12 months for violating an EPO.
