“They held the clerks at gunpoint. One of them had a shotgun. It appears to be a sawed off shotgun, and another one had a semi-automatic firearm. They held the store up and got away with approximately 8500 dollars worth of cash and merchandise,” says Greg Long, describing the Kentucky robbery.

Investigators have not said where in Kentucky the crime or crimes took place. They do say that Clark and the other two suspects are believed to be in a Dodge mini-van.

Insurance Fraud 9 Arrests Made in FL PIP Fraud Ring

Nine suspects were arrested for personal injury protection (PIP) fraud in Miami, Fla., according to an announcement by Chief Financial Officer Jeff Atwater. Charged in eight separate cases involving seven staged accidents, these individuals were arrested and charged for their involvement in the filing of more than $242,000 in fraudulent billings submitted to 11 insurance carries.

“While their injuries may have been fake, PIP fraud is real and it is not a victimless crime,” said CFO Atwater. “When insurance carriers absorb such high-dollar losses to fraud, we all pay in the form of higher insurance premiums. I’m thankful to our dedicated investigative team for shutting down this fraud ring.”

http://liarcatchers.com/insurance_fraud.html

Most PIP fraud rings involve several components that are each monetarily driven – the organizer, who recruits and arranges for individuals to stage, or intentionally cause, motor vehicle accidents; the patient broker, who convinces the participants to seek post-accident medical treatments for non-existent injuries; and sometimes licensed medical providers, who agree to sign off on falsified medical treatment documents in exchange for payments billed under the participants’ personal injury protection benefits as part of their automobile insurance policies. The Division of Insurance Fraud arrested these nine individuals for acting in one or more of these capacities.

Participants in these staged accidents were referred to at least 13 different South Florida medical clinics. This case remains ongoing and additional arrests are expected.

Pedophile Tracking Bowling Green Teen Accused

A Bowling Green teenager was expected to be arraigned this morning on charges he sexually abused a 6-year-old boy.

Christopher Ashcraft, 18, was to make his first appearance in Warren Circuit Court to enter a plea to two counts of first-degree sexual abuse and one count of first-degree sodomy.

A Warren County grand jury indicted Ashcraft last week.

http://liarcatchers.com/pedophile_tracking.html

The indictment accuses Ashcraft of subjecting the juvenile to sexual contact on two occasions between Nov. 2 and Dec. 2 and engaging in deviant sexual intercourse with a child younger than 12 years of age once during the same time period.

Bowling Green Police arrested Ashcraft on Dec. 4. Police records describe Ashcraft as a highly functioning mentally challenged man who lives in the care of someone who reported the allegations.

According to a city police report, Ashcraft had been looking at child pornography on a telephone that belongs to his caregiver.

The parents of a child who visited the house where Ashcraft lives told his caregiver Ashcraft inappropriately touched their child.

Police spoke with Ashcraft while his caregiver was present, and Ashcraft claimed not to know anything about the child mentioned and asked his caregiver to leave the room.

According to police records, Ashcraft told police about another child who comes to visit the home, saying that he touched the boy inappropriately and attempted to perform a sex act with the child.

Ashcraft told police he didn’t think what happened was a big deal but agreed he needed help, according to a police report.

When police interviewed the child’s mother, she did not know about the allegations but said her son had made excuses not to go to Ashcraft’s home, police records show.

Warren Circuit Judge John Grise set Ashcraft’s bond at $25,000 cash.

Private Detective: Mt. Sterling Man Accused of Killing Girlfriend’s Dog

It took 14 months, but a Mt. Sterling man is in jail after police say his girlfriend made a horrifying discovery at their home.

Billy Tipton’s girlfriend found her 5-month old Jack Russell terrier lying in the front yard suffering from injuries police say are consistent with its head being stomped on.

Officers came to the house twice that day in September, when the events allegedly happened. The first time was an argument between the couple and the second time was after the girlfriend got a call from Tipton.

http://liarcatchers.com/contact.php

“He called her and stated not to worry about the dog, which they jointly owned, that he was going to take care of it or kill it,” says Sgt. Terry Johnson.

The girlfriend tells LEX 18 that Tipton did not stomp on the dog. Rather, she says the dog died after being struck by a vehicle and that they decided to euthanize it after taking the puppy to the vet.

Mt. Sterling police say they never heard those claims. The 911 call audio tape has the girlfriend saying, “I come back and he killed the dog.”

Tipton’s arrest warrant states that the dog died after a period of prolonged suffering.

Private Detective: KSP Searching For Suspects in Hazard Home Invasion

Four men remain at large after a home invasion in Knott County Thursday.

Troopers were called to a residence at Jamestown Village, in a mobile home community on the Knott and Perry County line, off of Highway 80. Troopers were dispatched in response to a call of a robbery in progress at the residence. The victims told officers that four male suspects forcibly entered the home, assaulted her with a firearm and then handcuffed her to a man in the home.

http://liarcatchers.com/contact.php

The perpetrators had fled the scene prior to officers arriving.

The intruders took a jacket, cell phone, and set of car keys before fleeing the residence in a light colored passenger car, possibly a Toyota or Honda.

It is unknown who these subject were or where they fled to. One victim received a minor injury to her eye, but neither she nor the male were seriously injured.

Wrongful Death Police Investigate Death of Montgomery Co. Woman

A death investigation is underway in Montgomery County after a 22-year-old woman was found face down in a road this weekend.

Katrina Craver was found in the road right outside of her father’s home.

Authorities have no definitive answers. They are still trying to determine whether Craver’s death was intentional or accidental. The sheriff says that she was found to have severe head trauma, but he doesn’t believe she was struck by a vehicle. Meanwhile, Craver’s family is left only with memories of her.

“She was a fun loving girl…kept everyone’s spirits up. She always made everyone tell her they loved her,” says Edward Craver, her father.

Montgomery County authorities will revisit the scene of Craver’s death Monday.

Identity Theft Ex Detroit Cop Sentenced Up To 20 Years

A former Detroit police officer has been sentenced to serve up to 20 years in prison for using false police reports to improve people’s credit scores.

Tamboura Kenyatta Jackson, 41, of Clinton Township was convicted last month of felony racketeering, forgery and bribery charges, Attorney General Bill Schuette said Friday.

Wayne County Circuit Judge Mark T. Slavens sentenced Jackson on Friday after a jury convicted him Dec. 23. He was to immediately serve 21/2 to 20 years in prison for racketeering, 11 months to 10 years for the public officer accepting bribes and 11 months to 14 years for forgery. The sentences will be served concurrently.

http://liarcatchers.com/identity_theft_investigation.html

“Public officers who abuse the public’s trust for personal gain greatly undermine the integrity of law enforcement,” Schuette said. “Confidence in public safety is vital in Michigan’s turnaround.”

A co-defendant, Lisa Curtis, 35, of Macomb Township pleaded guilty in October to bribing Jackson and testified against him, officials said. Slavens sentenced her to two years of probation.

In 2009, Curtis told dozens of her clients she could improve their credit scores through her Waterford-based company, Bright Star Consulting, LLC, according to Schuette. She charged clients a fee between $200 and $1,000.

Without clients’ knowledge Curtis fabricated identity theft stories and provided Jackson with client information. Jackson then submitted false police reports to Experian, a national credit reporting agency, requesting the incidents of “identity theft” be removed from credit histories. Curtis paid Jackson $50 to $200 in bribes for the false police reports.

Jackson also used the scam to improve his own credit score by creating a false police report signed by another officer, without the officer’s knowledge, Schuette said. He had Curtis submit the claim to the credit reporting agency.

The Detroit Police Department suspended Jackson without pay after Schuette filed charges against him. He later resigned from the department.

“This department does not and will not tolerate such egregious acts by our members,” Detroit Police Chief James Craig said in a statement Friday. “I would like to emphasize that the actions of this employee are not conducive to the vast majority of officers who serve the citizens of this city with the utmost level of integrity and dedication.”
