A former Vernonia police chief was arrested Wednesday, accused of felony sex abuse charges involving a 13-year-old girl.

Gene Baska, 62, of Vernonia, was taken into custody following a traffic stop and later charged with luring a minor and attempt to commit sex abuse, both felonies.

He bailed out of jail and was ordered not to contact the victim or her family.

Deputies said they were notified after a sexually explicit message was allegedly transmitted digitally to the victim from Baska.

Investigators then obtained a warrant for digital images, motion pictures, videos, photographs, audio recordings, text messages and call records linked to Baska, deputies said.

They also searched his home at 16802, Keasey Road, in Vernonia Wednesday night and seized electronic equipment related to the investigation.

Deputies are trying to determine if there could be more victims. They are urging anyone with information that may help investigators to call the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office’s recorded Tip Line at (503) 366-4698 as soon as possible.

A Frankfort man has been charged with adult kidnapping after police say he forced a man to drive him at gunpoint.

Police say that Dwayne Wainscott used a gun to force the victim to drive him to Lexington Friday. The victim told police that Wainscott threatened his life on several occasion while holding the gun to his chest.

The driver managed to escape when the car became disabled on the side of the road.  Wainscott fled the scene on foot.

Police say the victim and Wainscott knew each other. The victim was allegedly physically assaulted by Wainscott earlier in the week after an altercation involving a third party.

Dwayne Wainscott was arrested on January 11.

A Winchester woman is in jail after allegedly attempting to kill her newborn infant.

According to the Winchester Sun, Cassaundra Haney gave birth to a baby boy at her home on Friday. Police were called to the hospital after Haney and the newborn were taken to Clark Regional Medical Center.

From information gathered at the hospital, police say that the newborn had been placed in a plastic bag at some point after birth.

Haney told police that she didn’t know that she was pregnant. She gave birth in a toilet and told police she left the boy in the toilet for 15 minutes before putting him in the bag.

Haney has been charged with attempted murder and tampering with physical evidence. The child is in stable condition at UK hospital.

Two people were killed and five were injured after violence broke out at a North Carolina house party early Sunday morning, according to authorities.

WTVD reported that the shooting happened at about 2 a.m. at a home in Hope Mills.

The victims killed have been identified as 32-year-old Tanishia Graham and 21-year-old Izaak Bridges.

The five who were injured are suffering from gunshot wounds. Their identities have not been released.

Boyle County deputies say they arrested three people who stole a former county attorney’s truck.

Jaron Taylor and Austin Lee Hines landed in jail early Sunday morning after Boyle County deputies got a call about people breaking into car on Spring Valley Road, near Junction City.

The caller grabbed a juvenile, but two others got away in a white truck.

Deputies found Taylor and Hines driving that truck and say it belongs to a former Mercer County attorney. They are currently in the Boyle County Detention Center facing several different charges

Delaware State Police have canceled an Amber Alert for two children from Delaware.

The Amber Alert was issued Saturday when Delaware State Police said Colette Hamilton, 4, and Cortez Hamilton, 4 months, were missing from Smyma, Delaware.

It was a search for two missing children that could have come through Kentucky.

At the time, state police in Delaware believed they may have been with Cortez Hamilton Senior, and may have been in danger. They were possibly traveling through Kentucky to Missouri where Hamilton has family.

Authorities reported they were likely in a 2005 red Chevy Suburban or a silver Toyota Matrix. Police have not released further information about the case.

A Boyle County man is behind bars after police say he stabbed his own nephew several times. The incident happened Saturday evening on York Lane in Junction City.

Police say 49-year-old Shawn Hobbs was arguing with his nephew, 23-year-old Brandon Hobbs inside their home. According to investigators, Brandon Hobbs left the home to get a taser, which he then used on his uncle. That’s when police say Shawn Hobbs grabbed a kitchen knife and stabbed his nephew in the chest 3 times.

Shawn Hobbs told officers the assault was in self defense. Brandon Hobbs was airlifted to UK Trauma Center and his current condition is unclear.

Shawn Hobbs was charged with assault and is currently in the Boyle County Detention Center.

A man is in a Hardin County jail for allegedly beating and robbing a grandmother in a mall parking lot.

Travis Jeter is facing first degree assault, robbery and cocaine possession charges. Police say Jeter targeted the 61 year old woman Monday evening at the Towne Mall in Elizabethtown.

He allegedly punched her in the face several times and demanded money and her car keys.

The victim says Jeter ran off after she was able to hit her car horn a few times.

A man who pleaded guilty in Weld County court to felony charges in connection with the sexual assault of a minor was sentenced Wednesday to 36 years in prison.

Fredwick Lee Larabee,54, fled to Missouri after the assaults were reported in May and then was extradited back to Colorado in June, according to the Weld Count District Attorney’s Office.

Larabee pleaded guilty to contributing to the delinquency of a minor, first-degree assault and sex assault, court records show.

Charges of incest, sex assault by someone in position of trust and a pattern of sex assault by someone in position of trust were dismissed by the district attorney’s office, records show.

The case was investigated by the county sheriff’s office.

A body inside a Louisville home jump starts a homicide investigation. The body was found around 3:30 Saturday afternoon.

So far, investigators won’t say who reported the body and they’re not sure if the victim lived in the home or not. Police say their victim is a man and suffered some kind of fatal injuries, but won’t release anymore until an autopsy is performed.

Police do not have any suspects.
