Missing Person Shane Montgomery of Philadelphia

Family members of Shane Montgomery announced the reward for information about the whereabouts of the missing West Chester University senior, who disappeared early Thanksgiving morning after a night out with friends, has increased to $50,000.

Karen Montgomery, Shane’s mother, announced the increase at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church of Manayunk on Rector Street Saturday afternoon.

“If money is the incentive to find Shane, then I would go to the ends of the Earth,” Karen said Saturday. “I just need one courageous person to come forward.”

http://liarcatchers.com/missing_persons_investigations.html

“There’s no confirmation of a picture, video,” she continued. “The video that has been collected has been very grainy.”

The lack of visual evidence prompted Shane’s relatives to announce a new strategy as part of their search efforts earlier this week — asking others who were barhopping in Manayunk the night before Thanksgiving to check their phones for photos of the missing student.

“We are still looking for selfies, videos on Main Street with something in the background that might resemble Shane,” said Karen, who was wearing a green ribbon Saturday to honor her son.

A mass followed by a rosary service for Shane will take place at St. John the Baptist starting 6 p.m. Sunday.

Shane, a West Chester University senior and Roman Catholic High School alumnus, was last seen around 1:45 a.m. on Thanksgiving when he was asked to leave Kildare’s Irish Pub on Main Street in the Manayunk section of Philadelphia.

Karen encouraged the public to visit the website, HelpFindShaneMontgomery.com, for the latest information.

The search expanded beyond the northwest Philadelphia neighborhoods to other sections of the city earlier this week.

Reports indicated one of the bars’ bouncers spotted the missing student about an hour after he left the Main Street pub, but investigators determined the sighting was not Shane after reviewing surveillance video from the area.

Shane’s parents, Kevin and Karen Montgomery, appeared on the Today Show Thursday, telling host Matt Lauer about the massive search effort and how difficult their lives have been since they first reported their son missing.

“I always knew Shane was a special kid,” Karen said. “Your kids are always very special to you. I’ve kind of always questioned my parenting skills and I’ve come to the conclusion that I didn’t do such a bad job with Shane and I hope that we find him soon.”

Philadelphia police do not suspect foul play, although his disappearance is considered suspicious. Authorities have used K-9s, helicopters and marine units to search Manayunk and Roxborough, as well as the Schuylkill River, which borders Main Street.

The FBI joined the search efforts Saturday and posted digital billboards over the holiday weekend in hopes of locating Shane. The federal organization’s task force is often involved when a missing persons case has “suspicious circumstances,” an FBI spokesperson said.

A reward for information about Shane’s whereabouts climbed to $40,000 Thursday, a day after his West Chester University classmates held a candlelight vigil to show support for the search. A bake sale at Roxborough Memorial Hospital Friday aimed to keep the public’s attention on the search.

Shane, who weighs about 140 pounds and stands 5-foot-11-inches tall, was wearing a buttoned- down gray shirt, gray hoodie and jeans when he left the bar. He also has a unique Celtic cross tattoo on his shoulder.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Philadelphia Police at 215-686-3353/54 or the FBI at 215-418-4000.

Pedophile Tracking Turlock, CA Child Pornographer Gets 30 Year Sentence

A Turlock man who was the subject of a Homeland Security investigation involving a child pornography ring will be spending the next three decades behind bars.

Jeffrey Randall Metcalfe, 47, was sentenced to 30 years in prison on Wednesday for receiving and distributing child pornography, said Department of Justice spokesperson Lauren Horwood. In addition to the 30-year sentence, Metcalfe was ordered to a lifetime term of supervised release.

http://liarcatchers.com/pedophile_tracking.html

In June 2012, the Homeland Security’s cyber crimes center and child exploitation investigation unit identified a website that had been used extensively to exchange images depicting child pornography. The agents were able to identify an account called “Asmodeusthe1st” and linked the internet protocol address to Metcalfe’s Turlock residence.

“Asmodeus” is the name of a demon of lust that twists people’s sexual desires.

Metcalfe’s account was traced to 17 usernames on the website. Metcalfe had posted numerous images to the site and made comments about his interest in child pornography.

Metcalfe was taken into custody in December by agents from Homeland Security. At the same time, agents served a search warrant at his home on Cedar Ridge Drive and found a computer that contained a screen saver with images of children being sexually exploited as well as thousands of printed and digital images of child pornography, according to the court records.

At the time of his arrest, Metcalfe told the agents he had at least 10,000 still photos and videos depicting child pornography in his home and that his “goal” was to obtain 100,000, according to the criminal complaint filed against him by Homeland Security.

The pictures includes images of small children of the toddler and preschool age, preteens, teens and some people who appeared to be adults, according to the criminal complaint. In the images children were pictured in sexually explicit and graphic poses and acts with other children and with adults.

In the criminal complaint the agents stated Metcalfe told them he had two previous sexual encounters with minors. One was with a 14-year-old when he was 18 years old and the other was a 9 or 10-year-old when he was 30 years old.

In June, Metcalfe pleaded guilty to one count of receiving and distributing child pornography. In his plea agreement he admitted that between January 2012 and December 1, 2013, he knowingly used a computer and the Internet to receive and distribute images of child pornography.

“Tragically, this case is not unusual — it’s all too common for defendants in child sexual exploitation cases to reoffend,” said Michael J. Toms, the acting assistant special agent in charge who oversees HSI Fresno. “That’s why HSI and its law enforcement partners must remain vigilant. It’s the only way to protect our youth and ensure that individuals, like this defendant, are held accountable for their crimes.”

This is not Metcalfe’s first conviction or arrest involving child pornography. In 2000 he was convicted in federal court for possession of child pornography. A review of Stanislaus County Superior Court records show a misdemeanor charge of possession of child pornography was lodged against Metcalfe in 2003, but dismissed the following year.

In 1992, Metcalfe pled guilty to two counts of first-degree custodial interference by enticing two minor girls to go with him out of state without the permission of their parents. At the time Metcalfe was on probation in California and had been ordered to have no contact with one of the girls. He was sentenced to three years formal probation and ordered to undergo an evaluation as a sex offender.

In sentencing, Judge Morrison C. England Jr. referenced the “extremely serious nature of the offense” and that this sentence was necessary to address the defendant’s “level of participation in the process” of the sexual exploitation of minors.

This case was the product of an investigation by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations, with assistance from the Turlock Police Department. It was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.

Identity Theft Haverhill, MS Man Plead Not Guilty

A Haverhill man pleaded not guilty Thursday to more than 100 charges of prescription and credit card fraud and identity theft.

Vincent Leo, 37, was accused by Attorney General Martha Coakley’s office of using fake prescriptions and posing as a nurse or a patient to obtain and distribute more than 10,000 oxycodone pills. He was also charged in a credit card fraud scheme that involved stealing card data from diners at a Waltham restaurant and using it to make fake cards.

“This case and the subsequent, successful indictment of Vincent Leo is the result of hundreds of hours of hard work,” said Haverhill Police Detective Lieutenant Robert Pistone, who called the case a “great cooperative effort” involving state and federal authorities.

http://liarcatchers.com/identity_theft_investigation.html

Coakley’s office alleged that Leo used fake prescription pads with real doctors’ names and prescription authorization numbers to collect thousands of tablets of the powerful opiate painkiller oxycodone from 2012 to 2014. Leo, who was indicted by a grand jury in November, was previously arrested in March after credit-card manufacturing equipment was found in his home.

A call to Leo’s attorney was not returned. He is being held at the Middleton House of Corrections on $50,000 bail, and a pre-trial hearing was scheduled for December 12.

Missing Person Greg Almodovar of Long Beach, CA

Family members are desperately searching for a Long Beach man with a history of depression who has been missing for several days.

“He’s never done anything like this and we’re worried,” said Jimmy Almodovar, older brother of Greg Almodovar.

Jimmy Almodovar said the last time anyone had seen or heard from the 23-year-old, who worked as a caregiver, was on Tuesday.

“That was the last time he used his ATM or made a call from his cell phone,” Jimmy Almodovar said.

http://liarcatchers.com/missing_persons_investigations.html

When Greg Almodovar didn’t come home Tuesday, his mother contacted Jimmy Almodovar.

 http://liarcatchers.com/missing_persons_investigations.html

“He usually always answers me texts but this time he didn’t,” he said.

The family activated Greg Almodovar’s GPS in his cell phone and located the missing man’s car near Willow Avenue and the 710 Freeway.

“It was facing the L.A. River,” Jimmy Almodovar said. There was no sign of his brother.

The family along with Long Beach Police officials will be searching for the missing man Saturday morning where his car was found.

Police are treating the disappearance as a critically missing person case.

Authorities say while he is suffering from depression, Greg Almodovar hadn’t made any statements to lead detectives to believe he would harm himself.

He stands about 5 feet 2 inches tall, weighs about 160 pounds with dark, medium length hair.

Anyone who sees Greg Almodovar or has information on his whereabouts is asked to call the Long Beach Police Department at 562-435-6711 or 9-1-1

Wrongful Death Bond Denied For Pair Charged in Death of Horry County, SC Man

Saturday, an Horry County Magistrate Judge denied bond for the pair charged with kidnapping Zachary Malinowski.

Christopher Anfony Brown and Javon Dion Gibbs, both age 20, were arrested and charged with the kidnapping and murder of Malinowski, said Lt. Raul Denis of Horry County Police.

Judge Whitley cannot set bond for a murder charge, so Brown and Gibbs will appear in general sessions court next week for a bond hearing on that charge.

http://liarcatchers.com/wrongful_death.html

Whitley did set bond on two drug charges that Brown has against him.  He’s charged with manufacturing and attempt to distribute schedule 1, 2, and 3 narcotics.  For each charge, Brown has a $10,000 bond.

Brown and Gibbs waived their right to a public defender.

Friday, detectives with Horry County Police Major Crimes Section made arrests in the case of Malinowski, who was reported missing in August 2013.

“During the early hours of Aug 26 the two defendants abducted the victim from his residence and transported him to the western portion of Horry County where he was killed,” said Lt. Raul Denis of Horry County Police.

19-year-old Zachary Malinowski of Conway went missing from Aynor in Aug 2013. Police say he was last seen after a basketball game on Sunday, Aug. 25.  Malinowski’s body has still not been found.

Although Malinowski  was from Conway he had been living with his grandparents on Highway 905 near Aynor, according to a Horry County Police report.

Malinowski’s dark purple 1996 Chevrolet Beretta 2-door was found late the night of Sept. 2, 2013 and reported by police early Tuesday morning.

The car was found in woods about 100 yards off of Valley Forge Road near Louisville Road in the Aynor area, police said in a report.

Search dogs were brought to the area where the car was found, but after a couple of hours the search was called off, police said.
