Private Detective: Police Searching for 2 Suspects in Violent Frankfort Attack

A Frankfort man was attacked in his home in front of his family and police are still searching for suspects and a motive.

It happened last Thursday on Centennial Ave. and police say they’re still looking for the two attackers.

The attack was so violent, people in the neighborhood aren’t answering their doors.

Vivian Richmond helps manage the building and says two men initially knocked on her son’s door and he wasn’t home. Then they knocked on the door across the hall.

http://liarcatchers.com/contact.php

The two suspects had knives taped to their arms. When the man across the hall opened the door, they began stabbing him.

Police say the two suspects never stated a motive. They made away with nothing and once the victim was able to break away the two suspects fled the scene. The victim was at home with his girlfriend, a friend and a small child. Richmond police say that within a few days the family packed up and moved out.

Police are still trying to figure out why the victim was attacked and if the suspects had another target in mind.

Missing Person Jaimee Mendez of Swampscott, Mass.

No evidence was found as about 100 law enforcement officers searched for a missing Massachusetts woman in a heavily wooded area in Salem Wednesday, as police say difficult terrain and weather conditions made efforts difficult.

Jaimee Mendez, 25, of Swampscott was last seen with a convicted level III sex offender before she vanished Thursday.

Meanwhile, police have placed billboards in high traffic areas, including near Boston’s Logan Airport, to hopefully generate tips in the continuing search.

http://liarcatchers.com/missing_persons_investigations.html

Her family says she was last heard from when she called two friends last Thursday to say she was with the sex offender and that she felt uncomfortable. That was the last anyone heard from her, according to her family.

Salem Police say they plan to look at maps and speak with investigators Wednesday evening to plan for continued searches.

“There were certain things that led us to believe that this area may have some importance,” Salem Police Chief Paul Tucker said in the afternoon. He would not comment on the investigation.

In a press conference Wednesday morning, Salem Police said they would not comment on any suspect wanted in connection with the search and that they were just there to find a missing person.

They added that the search has been a coordinated effort and that sending all resources at once would make the search more difficult in ways.

Police did tow a minivan with a mattress in the back away from the home in Lynn, where neighbors say the man they described as a sex offender was staying. A nearby dumpster and a neighbor’s garage was also search Tuesday.

Mendez’s family says the young, diabetic mother’s sneakers were found in a dumpster behind a CVS on Eastern Avenue in Lynn, along with a piece of rug they say came from that man’s minivan. Police have not confirmed that. The Mendez family says someone matching Jamiee’s description was seen at that CVS, but there are still questions.

Jaimee’s family says the mother would have never left her 5-year-old son.

“He doesn’t know what’s going on. He’s doing fine, he’s with the father, going to school, trying to stay to his routine,” cousin Olivia Ayotte said.

The mother of Jaimee Mendez says she doesn’t expect they will find her daughter alive.

Massachusetts State police are working with the Swampscott, Lynn, and Salem police departments to investigate this case.

The family is also involved in their own private search.

Arson Investigation Clay Co. Man Denies Charges

A Clay County man is accused of trying to set an apartment on fire in Madison County.

Michael Collins adamantly denied the charges of attempted arson in a jailhouse interview with LEX 18.

Collins is accused of trying to set a fire to a Madison County apartment with people inside on November 2. According to his arrest warrant, someone inside the apartment found the stove and oven on high heat with the door open.

http://liarcatchers.com/arson_investigation.html

The warrant doesn’t say where the event allegedly happened and Richmond police said he couldn’t release anything until he saw a case report.

Collins denies knowing where the incident happened and that he was in Manchester the day of that event.

“I’m not guilty. There’s no way I would’ve never done that especially they’re saying with people in the apartment building no no,” says Collins.

Collins is facing charges of attempted arson, burglary and five counts of wanton endangerment.

Fraud Investigation New Twist to the Telephone Tech Support Scam

The IC3 has produced Scam Alerts in the past advising the public of an ongoing telephone scam in which callers purport to be an employee of a major software company. The callers have strong foreign accents. The callers report the user’s computer is sending error messages and numerous viruses have been detected. The caller convinces the user to give them permission to run a program allowing the caller to gain remote access. The caller advises the virus can be removed for a fee.

Intimidation tactics used in this scam have influenced victims to pay fees associated with the removal of alleged viruses. It has been reported to the IC3 an individual who paid the required fees, later received a call advising the victim the funds paid for the services went to India and were used to purchase weapons for ISIS. The call came with an additional request for money to remove the victim’s name from a black list.

http://liarcatchers.com/fraud_investigation.html

In a new twist to the tech support scam, cyber criminals attempt to defraud using another avenue. The scam is executed while a user is browsing the Internet. In this scenario, a website being viewed provided a link to articles related to popular topics. The user clicked the link and was redirected to a website which produced a window that advised the user’s computer had been hacked. Another window was displayed that contained a telephone number to obtain assistance. The user reported all attempts to close the windows were ineffective. Upon calling the number for assistance the user was connected with an individual who spoke with a heavy foreign accent claiming to be an Apple representative. During the process the user’s web browser was hijacked. Restarting the computer in an attempt to regain access to the Web produced another message with a different telephone number to obtain assistance.

The execution of this fraud is similar to what was reported in a Public Service Announcement (PSA) dated 07/18/2013. The PSA reports on a version of ransomware that targets OS X Mac users. This version is not a malware; it appears as a webpage that uses JavaScript to load numerous iframes (browser windows) and requires victims to close each iframe. The cyber criminals anticipate victims will pay the requested ransom before realizing all iframes need to be closed. The full PSA can be found at http://www.ic3.gov/media/2013/130718-2.aspx

If you are a victim of this scam or a similar scheme it is suggested:

  1. To file a complaint at www.IC3.GOV
  2. Resist the pressure to act quickly
  3. Be cautious of clicking on unknown links

Wrongful Death 12 Years Later Search Continues For Woman’s Body

This month marks 12 years since two men escaped from a Kentucky prison, then went on a crime spree spanning several states.

During that spree, they brutally murdered two women, including a college student. To this day, the body of Samantha Burns has never been found.

“It’s like you’re stuck in time. Sometimes you’re thinking she’s still going to come home. You’re still waiting, and then you realize…It’s been 12 years,” says Kandi Burns, Samantha’s mother.

http://liarcatchers.com/wrongful_death.html

A decade after her daughter’s brutal murder, Kandi Burns still waits for a sense of closure. Tips in the case have all but stopped and her daughter’s body is still missing.

“Samantha was just a loving, caring girl. I mean she was a teenager. She didn’t cause us any problems. She was going to school, trying to fulfill her future. We just miss her,” remembers Kandi.

Chad Fulks and Brandon Basham escaped from the Hopkins County Jail. The pair carjacked a good samaritan in the town of Hanson, drove him to Southern Indiana, tied him to a tree and left him. That was just the beginning of their 17 days, multi-state crime spree. The men were eventually convicted of killing a 44-year-old woman in South Carolina. They also pleaded guilty to abducting Samantha in Huntington, West Virginia and then killing her.

There have been multiple searches for the body of the 19-year-old Marshall University student. One of the convicted killers was even brought out to show where he buried her, with no results. Both men are on death row, and Samantha’s family is worried that time is running out.

But, they are not giving up.

“A lot of people think well it’s been 12 years, why do you put yourself through this? I just can’t stand the thought that my daughter is out there somewhere. And I’m not going to stop looking for her until we do bring her home,” says Kandi.

Champion was indicted on three counts of complicity to capital murder and one count of murder.
