Wrongful Death Oklahoma Beheading Suspect To Be Charged Monday

A man accused of beheading a woman in Oklahoma will be charged Monday, authorities said.

Charges against Alton Alexander Nolen will include first-degree murder and assault with a deadly weapon, according to Jeremy Lewis, spokesman for the Moore police department.

Nolen, a recent convert to Islam, allegedly attacked a woman Thursday at a Vaughan Foods processing plant, soon after he learned he’d lost his job there.

Police said he walked into the front office and attacked one of the first people he encountered, Colleen Hufford, 54.

http://liarcatchers.com/wrongful_death.html

He severed her head with a knife and then attacked 43-year-old Traci Johnson. Johnson is in stable condition at a nearby hospital for treatment of “numerous wounds,” according to police.

Mark Vaughan, the company CEO and a reserve deputy with the Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Office, confronted and twice shot Nolen, authorities said.

Nolen, 30, was interviewed by investigators on Friday. Police have not revealed what he said.

Nolen’s Facebook page uses the name Jah’Keem Yisrael. The cover photo appears to be of fighters holding weapons.

The postings include numerous all-caps messages about Islam and quotations from the Quran.

There’s no reference to job dissatisfaction, and no indication he planned an attack.

Some postings are political, such as one that runs with an image of the Joker, from “Batman” comics: “AMERICA SO CALL HELPS IRAQ (WHICH NOT)- WELL WHY CANT U HELP THE GAZA CITIZENS AGAINST ISRAEL LOL..I UPLOAD THIS PIK BECAUSE AMERICA AND ISRAEL ARE WICKED. WAKE UP MUSLIMS!!!”

CNN confirmed with Moore police that the Facebook page and the images belong to Nolen.

Nolen had tried to convert co-workers to Islam, officials said.

U.S. law enforcement officials said there are no indications linking Thursday’s attack to terrorism. In the Middle East, ISIS, which calls itself the Islamic State, has drawn world attention with videotaped beheadings.

In a Facebook video posted by Megan Nolan, two women who say they are Nolan’s mother and sister apologize for his actions.

“I want to apologize to both families, because this is not Alton,” said the woman who calls Nolan “my son.” She says her son was a good kid.

“I know what they’re saying what he did, but I’m gonna tell you this, that’s not my son,” she says. “My heart’s bleeding right now.”

The woman who identifies herself as Nolan’s sister says he’s never been a violent person.

“For something like this to have happened, we’re all still in shock right now,” she says. “We’re praying for both of the victims’ families, and I ask that everyone keep us in their prayers.”

The Oklahoma Conference of Churches issued a statement Saturday urging “all Oklahomans and people everywhere not to equate Mr. (Nolen’s) actions with the beliefs and practices of the Islamic Community in Oklahoma.”

“The Islamic Community of Oklahoma has consistently condemned all violence — most especially acts of violence ostensibly carried out in the name of Islam,” the statement said. “Along with our Muslim brothers and sisters we affirm that true Islam is, in fact, a religion of peace and that those inflicting violence in the name of Islam are perverting Islam for their own ends.”

National Muslim organizations have made similar statements as ISIS’ brutality has come to light.

A 2011 Pew Research poll found that one in five Muslim-Americans believes there is either a great deal or fair amount of support for extremism in the Muslim-American community.

Nearly half said Muslim leaders in the United States had not done enough to speak out against extremism, while a third said Muslim leaders had done enough.

Eighty-one percent said suicide bombings and other violence against civilians to defend Islam are never justified.

Nolen was incarcerated until March 2013 for possession of a controlled substance, escaping confinement and resisting an officer.

CNN affiliate KOKI reported Nolen was arrested in 2006 when an officer saw him throw a bag of crack cocaine and a bag of marijuana out of a vehicle window as the officer pulled him over for traffic violations.

Nolen was put on probation, KOKI reported. In 2010, a state trooper stopped Nolen for an expired tag and discovered he had outstanding warrants, KOKI reported.

The trooper, Betsy Randolph, told CNN on Saturday that Nolen started struggling after she put a handcuff on one wrist. Nolen ran and was arrested after a 12-hour manhunt.

“He kept looking over his shoulder because he knew I wanted to shoot him, but obviously I couldn’t shoot him in the back,” Randolph told CNN. “If there had been any way to know the things he is alleged to have done a few days ago I would have killed him when I had a chance.”

A spokesman for Gov. Mary Fallin, Alex Weintz, noted the governor had blocked Nolen from receiving parole in 2012.

Weintz said Saturday: “The suspect came up for parole in 2012 and the governor denied his parole. She reviewed his file and didn’t think that he was a good candidate for early parole.”

Wrongful Death Man Receives Death Penalty For 1983 Murder

More than 30 years after a woman was raped and murdered, a man has received the death penalty for the crime.

A Louisville TV station reports Larry Lamont White was formally sentenced Friday. A jury recommended the death penalty after finding White guilty in the death of 22-year-old Pamela Armstrong back in July.

http://liarcatchers.com/wrongful_death.html
The mother of five was raped and shot twice in the head in the summer of 1983. White was already convicted of killing two other women in the 1980s.

The defense says they have grounds to appeal the case.

Missing Person Body Found in Connection To Missing Iowa State Student

Police confirm they have found a body in the trunk of a car they had been searching for in connection with a missing Iowa State University student.

KCRG TV reports, police found the car late Friday night at the Dolphin Lake Point Enclave, an apartment complex along U.S. Highway 6 in Iowa City.

Iowa City police said almost immediately after finding the car, they knew something was wrong because of an odor coming from the trunk.  When they opened the trunk, they found a body inside.

http://liarcatchers.com/missing_persons_investigations.html

Ames police asked for the public’s help in locating a car possibly driven by Tong Shao, 20, who has now been missing for nearly 20 days.

Police were looking for a beige, 1997 Toyota Camry, four door, with Kentucky plates 287 JDZ.

Police say Shao’s last contact was a message to friends saying she was in Iowa City, where she is believed to have been visiting a friend. Shao is a Chinese international student.

Police also say Shao was visiting a Chinese international student in Iowa City when she disappeared. He flew back to China due to a family emergency the day after her disappearance.

“He’s a person of interest.  Certainly, we’d like to speak with him about what’s taken place,” said Iowa City police Lt. Mike Brotherton.  But Brotheron said authorities haven’t been able to locate the man yet.

Residents of the apartment complex were shocked to hear the news.  “You never expect someone to be dead in their car, especially the way it was,” said resident John Salmon.

Brotherton also said police belive the body had been in the trunk for “an extended period of time.”

Police expect to have more answers on Monday, and an autopsy is scheduled for Saturday. The Iowa State Daily reported that official autopsy results will not be released for four to six weeks.

Missing Person Little Rock, AR Realtor Still Missing

Police are still searching for clues in the disappearance of a central Arkansas real estate agent.

The Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office is searching for 51-year-old Beverly Carter. She was reported missing by her husband September 25 after she was supposed to meet an unknown person at a home on Old River Road in Scott to show a house around 5:30 p.m.

After three and half hours of no contact, her husband went to the home on Old River Road and found his wife’s car with her purse and wallet inside, but she was nowhere to be found, and investigators have found no trace of a crime.

http://liarcatchers.com/missing_persons_investigations.html

“Her car was there, and the house was wide open, and I knew that something was wrong,” her husband, Carl Carter, described of the scene when he went to look for her.

Beverly Carter was last seen wearing a black sleeveless shirt and red shorts. Flyers circulating suggest Carter stands around 5 feet, 2 inches and weighs around 145 pounds. She is also said to have blonde hair and green eyes.

Her husband said he received a text from his wife around 1 a.m. Friday but that it didn’t sound like her at all.

“All of a sudden I received three texts in a row. One said ‘Yes.’… Then she sent another text that said, ‘My phone’s low. The battery’s down, and I’ll call you whenever I get signal.’ …And, then, straight back-to-back, I received a text that said ‘Oh, I’m out drinking with some friends,'” he recited. “Beverly’s not a drinker…We just want our mom back, and my wife of 35 years…I need her.”

Friend and family told THV11 Friday night that they’re praying and hoping Carter comes home soon and that investigators find answers.

“Beverly is very fun-loving,” said Brenda Rhoads, principal broker with Crye-Leike in North Little Rock. “She’s kind of like the sunshine in the office. Everybody loves Beverly, so everybody’s trying to get together to see what we can do… [Realtor safety] is not something that we take lightly, and Beverly’s very aware and tells people where she’s going and what she’s going to do. It is an important thing that we all need to think about as realtors.”

Helicopters canvassed the area earlier Friday, looking for clues. The sheriff’s office is requesting that any large land owners/farmers in the Scott area where Carter was reported missing check their properties to aid in the search.

Deputies encourage anyone with information regarding Carter’s whereabouts to contact the Sheriff’s Office at(501) 340-6600.
