Private Detective, Shoplifter Tells Clerk to Call 911, While Walking Out with Beer

Lexington police say a shoplifting suspect told the clerk to call 911 as he left a gas station with a 24-pack of beer Sunday morning.

Police say Eric. M. Edwards, 33, walked into the Shell Station on South Limestone around 5:30 a.m. and asked the clerk what time he could purchase beer. According to the police report, when the clerk informed Edwards he had to wait until 11 a.m., Edwards picked up a 24-pack of Keystone, told the clerk to call 911 and walked out the door without paying.

The clerk took Edwards’ up on his advice.

Police say when officers arrived, a witness reported seeing a man run behind the store and start drinking beer. Officers say they found Edwards drinking outside a nearby apartment complex. According to court documents, Edwards told officers, “Guess I’m going to jail. Should have run further.”

Cold Case Missing Person KY Woman Missing 19 Years

Nineteen years after a young woman vanished while sunbathing on an Ohio River beach in western Kentucky, police are still digging for clues that could solve the mystery of what happened to Heather Teague.

Kentucky State Police received fresh tips recently that led investigators to excavate two sites — retention basins at a hog farm and a cistern at another location. No evidence was found.

Tuesday marks another anniversary of Teague’s abduction from Newburgh Beach in Henderson County. The one-time honor student and beauty contestant was 23 years old when she disappeared in 1995.

http://liarcatchers.com/cold_cases.html

A man came forward claiming to have seen the abduction through a telescope on the Indiana side of the Ohio River. He told police that a burly man with a gun pulled Teague into the nearby woods by her hair.

Early on, police appeared to be making headway in the investigation.

The one suspect named in the case owned a red Bronco like one seen on a videotape of vehicles entering and leaving the Newburgh Beach area. Farmers had hired a photographer to videotape the traffic because of damage done to cornfields by motorists.

Then the suspect fatally shot himself a week after Teague’s disappearance as police attempted to serve a search warrant on his property. Since then, the mystery has confounded investigators and added to the agony for Sarah Teague, the victim’s mother.

“It will take a miracle to find her, but I have to believe in miracles,” Sarah Teague said recently.

As the years went by, state police said tips barely trickled in as the case faded from the public’s memory.

But investigators received information recently that led them to dig out two areas in search of clues or, perhaps, human remains, said Trooper Corey King, a spokesman for the state police post at Henderson.

Retention basins at the hog farm in Henderson County were drained and the contents were dug out and spread across a field, King said. The work yielded no evidence, he said.

At the other site, investigators lowered a submersible camera into a 20-foot-deep cistern. Police then excavated the cistern and inspected it contents, but again uncovered no evidence, King said.

Detectives at the Henderson KSP post have made breakthroughs to solve other cold cases in recent years, and they’re hoping to do the same with the Teague case, he said.

“We haven’t given up,” King said. “We have vowed to do everything and anything we can to bring information to the Teague family.”

Sarah Teague, who lives in Madisonville, believes authorities pinpointed the wrong suspect and failed to follow up on leads that she brought to their attention.

She sued members of the FBI, state police, Henderson Police Department and others in early 2013, alleging a cover-up. The lawsuit was eventually dismissed by a federal judge, who ruled the case was brought to court too late to be prosecuted and that the allegations lacked merit.

As another anniversary of her daughter’s disappearance approached, Sarah Teague remained critical of the state police investigation, but said she appreciated the recent excavation efforts in the search for clues.

“I’m very thankful for any and all efforts that the state police have made to find my daughter,” she said.

Meanwhile, two Webster County high school graduates recently split a $1,000 scholarship created in memory of Heather Teague, an honor student and cheerleader who enjoyed writing poetry. She was a student at Western Kentucky University. She would be 42 years old now.

Her mother is pursuing a criminal justice degree and hopes to someday apply it by working on missing person cases.

She hasn’t given up hope of finding out her daughter’s fate.

“I have no proof that she is alive, and I have no proof that she is not,” Sarah Teague said. “It’s the not knowing that I have to balance in my heart every single day.”

Wrongful Death Inmate Overdosed on Methadone Soaked Underwear

A bizarre murder investigation is underway inside the Jessamine County Detention Center after an inmate reportedly died following an incident involving a pair of underwear soaked in methadone.

Deputies at the jail found 33-year-old Corey McQueary of Stanford unresponsive in his cell Wednesday night. He was taken to St. Joe Jessamine and later pronounced dead by the coroner.

http://liarcatchers.com/wrongful_death.html

The investigation revealed that 55-year-old Michael Jones of Lexington had soaked a pair of underwear with methadone while he was out of jail on a court ordered furlough. He brought that back to the jail, allegedly shared it with his cell mates and Corey McQueary died as a result of it.

Jones is now charged with murder and other charges. LEX 18 is gathering details of this overdose death investigation.

Fraud Investigation Food Stamp Fraud Rampant

Americans receiving food stamps were caught selling and bartering their benefits online for art, housing and cash, according to a new federal report that investigates fraud in the nation’s largest nutrition support program.

Complicating the situation is the fact states around the country are having trouble tracking and prosecuting the crimes because their enforcement budgets have been slashed despite the rapidly-rising number of food stamp recipients, according to the Government Accountability Office report.

Under the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, 47 million people have been awarded $76 billion in benefits. State agencies are responsible for addressing SNAP recipient fraud under the guidance and monitoring of the Food and Nutrition Service.

“Such rapid program growth can increase the potential for fraud unless appropriate agency controls are in place to help minimize these risks,” the investigators said in their report.

The GAO report resulted from a review of 11 state and federal efforts to fight food stamp fraud, effectiveness of certain fraud detection tools and how FNS oversees state anti-fraud efforts.

The report found that “most of the selected states reported difficulties in conducting fraud investigations due to either reduced or maintained staff levels while SNAP recipient numbers greatly increased from fiscal year 2009 through 2013.”

The report also said some of the state officials interviewed suggested “changing the financial incentives structure to help support the costs of investigating potential SNAP fraud.”

As for the actual fraud itself, during a 30-day testing period of the automated tool for e-commerce websites, the GAO report found “28 postings from one popular e-commerce websites that advertised the potential sale of food stamp benefits in exchange for cash.”

The GAO also found limitations on the effectiveness of recommended replacement card data and website monitoring tools for fraud detection.

It also said states have different thresholds for prosecuting food stamp fraud.

In Tennessee, for example, $100 in benefits must be fraudulently obtained before officials will consider prosecuting, but in Texas it is a $5,000 level.

Allegations of fraud and abuse have long-plagued SNAP and have been used by lawmakers in Washington to argue that the program has spiraled out of control.

Missing Person Pregnant Euless, TX Woman

A Euless mother who is pregnant remained missing Sunday, but authorities said they had no evidence that foul play was involved in her disappearance.

The family of Allison St. Pierre, 24, filed a missing person report late Friday after she failed to attend a meet-the-teacher night Thursday with her 5-year-old daughter.

“I called her at 5 that day to make sure I was supposed to take her to the school,” said a friend, Michael Mannon of Fort Worth. “She didn’t answer. I finally reached the person she was staying with and he said he had not seen her for hours.”

http://liarcatchers.com/missing_persons_investigations.html

Mannon said he last saw her at 11 p.m. Wednesday in Euless.

“On Thursday afternoon, she had gotten into an argument with the guy she was staying with,” Mannon said. “He said her told her to leave, and no one has seen her seen since that day.”

St. Pierre’s 5-year-old daughter is scheduled to start school today. The child is with her father in Euless, family members said Sunday.

Euless police Capt. Gary Landers said Sunday that officers were checking Euless addresses where St. Pierre had stayed in the past.

“There’s no indication of foul play at this time,” he said.

Relatives and friends posted fliers Sunday that say St. Pierre was last seen at Main Street and Pipeline Road in Euless. She was wearing bluejeans, a pink shirt and black boots and was carrying a pink Hurley backpack. She’s 5 feet 7, has blue/green eyes, weighs about 125 pounds and has auburn hair, and she is six weeks pregnant.

Anyone with information should contact Euless police at 817-685-1526.

Missing Person CA Man Missing in Idaho

The Boise County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help in finding a missing California man.

Boise County dispatchers say Lucius Robbi, 21, was last seen in the Horseshoe Bend area around 2 p.m. last Tuesday. He is believed to be driving a green 1979 Subaru Legacy with California license plates reading: 6 CCP 540. Authorities say the Subaru could have one or two kayaks on top.

http://liarcatchers.com/missing_persons_investigations.html

Dispatchers say Robbi was employed for the summer at the Cascade Raft company in Horseshoe Bend. He was scheduled to attend orientation at the University of Montana last Wednesday. But he never arrived.

Family members became concerned and notified the Boise County Sheriff’s Office.

Volunteers from Idaho Mountain Search and Rescue are conducting ground and aerial searches.

The Sheriff’s Office has also notified law enforcement agencies in all adjoining counties.

According to a Sheriff’s Office news release, it is unknown which direction of travel Robbi took as he presumably headed for Montana. Authorities say he could have taken Highway 21 to Stanley, Highway 75 to Challis, then Highway 93 to Montana — or he could have taken Highway 55 to Orofino then Highway 12 to Montana.

If you have had contact with or have seen either Robbi or his vehicle, you are urged to contact the Boise County Sheriff’s Office at (208) 392-4411
