Identity Theft Three From Killeen, TX Plead Guilty

Three people from Killeen have admitted they used stolen identities to collect more than $490,000 in false tax refunds from the IRS.

Albert Powell, Paris Stephens and Ronnie Cole filed at least $1.3 million in false claims through TurboTax from 2010 to 2012, using identities taken from job applicants at a Wendy’s restaurant in Chicago, where Powell had previously been employed as a manager, according to court documents filed in a U.S. district court in Austin.

IRS criminal investigators said the victims included college students in their 20s and two parents collecting Social Security disability. All tax returns were filed electronically through the IRS service centers in Austin and Kansas City, they said.

The defendants, who had been living in Killeen, pleaded guilty this week to charges of identity theft and conspiracy to defraud the government. They each face up to 25 years in prison, fines of up to $250,000 and restitution.

Pedophile Tracking Etowah County, AL Man Arrested

Etowah County investigators filed additional sexual abuse charges Friday against a former employee of a juvenile care facility

Deputies arrested 61-year-old Roy Dean Pruett on Thursday afternoon.  The initial charges were two counts of first-degree sexual abuse of a child less than 12 years old and two counts of first-degree sodomy.

http://liarcatchers.com/pedophile_tracking.html

A third victim reported abuse after Pruett’s arrest, and investigators added an additional charge of first degree sexual abuse.

“There are multiple children involved and the investigation is ongoing. There could be additional children involved. At this time we don’t know. Anyone who preys on children deserves to be behind bars,” sheriff’s office spokesperson Natalie Barton told ABC 33/40 on Thursday.

Deputies said Friday that the abuse happened at Pruett’s home in Gadsden.  Until recently, he was employed as activity director of the Eagle Rock Boys Ranch, a group home for at-risk boys between the ages of nine and 19 years old.  Investigators declined to comment on whether the victims were juveniles at Eagle Rock, but said the abuse did not take place at the juvenile care facility.

“This is a terrible crime involving innocent children and reports of this type are becoming too common,” Sheriff Todd Entrekin said.

“These children are brave, they came forward to help us put this predator behind bars. A special thanks is due to the James M. Barrie Center for their investigative help,” he said.

Eagle Rock executive director Scott Hilton said he terminated Pruett’s employment earlier in July for reasons unrelated to the accusations of sexual abuse.

The victims told investigators the abuse began in November 2012.

“I appreciate the hard work the Sheriff’s investigators put into this case,” district attorney Jimmie Harp said.

“Cases of this nature are particularly disturbing. The victimization of a child is something that we, as a community, cannot tolerate and we intend to see that those who would prey on children are brought to justice.”

An Etowah County judge set Pruett’s bond at $300,000 and he remained in the county jail Thursday evening.

Private Detective, Reward Offered to ID Church Break-In Suspects

A northern Kentucky couple is offering a helping hand in addition to a reward for any information about two people who have been breaking into a Dry Ridge, Kentucky church.

Troy and Becky Winters say two thieves have entered the Open Door Church, located on Dry Ridge Road, at least four times in the last month.

Troy, who is a pastor at the church, says the suspects aren’t taking much of value but have damaged church property.

“You know we feel very violated. You know we try and do good in the community, then just to see them on the surveillance video pounding that fire extinguisher into the window, that was very hard to watch. It was very sad,” Becky told FOX19.

Security cameras that were recently installed offer a clear image of the two male suspects.

Troy says he is willing to help the young men if they need food or other assistance. The Winters have offered a $250 reward for tips in helping to identify the suspects.
