A 15-year-old New Hampshire girl who disappeared while on her way home from school nine months ago is safely home with her family, the state attorney general said Monday.

Abigail Hernandez was reunited with her family on Sunday evening, Attorney General Joseph Foster said.

Foster said the family has asked for privacy. He said Abigail’s mother, Zenya Hernandez, told authorities “today we are the happiest people on earth.”

Police said Abigail was last seen Oct. 9 after leaving Kennett High School in Conway. Police said she walked her normal route toward her house and sent several texts between 2:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. But she never made it home.

Police did reveal several months ago that she had written home to her mother. When the letter surfaced, FBI Special Agent In Charge Kieran Ramsey said there was the possibility that Abigail had run away but that someone could still be coercing her into staying away from home.

“The long and short of it is, quite honestly, we are just happy that she’s home safe and sound right now,” Ramsey said Monday. He declined to discuss specifics of the investigation.

In a brief statement, Foster said the criminal investigation in Abigail’s disappearance will continue. Jane Young, chief of the attorney general’s criminal bureau, said the case required the kind of full-scale investigation that was launched.

“We said all along, this was a child who was missing and we marshalled all our resources and we can gratefully say that she was able to be reunited with her family,” Young said.

After Abigail disappeared, police initially said she made it home, but later said she hadn’t. Police also at first said she made a call about 6:30 p.m. that day but later said that, too, was wrong.

After she vanished, police consistently said they have no evidence to suggest anything suspicious and were treating her disappearance as a missing-person’s case.

The disappearance rattled the town of 2,300 residents in Mount Washington Valley, who were reminded of the still-unsolved killing of another young girl from rural New Hampshire three years ago: 11-year-old Celina Cass disappeared from her West Stewartstown home in July 2011, and her body was recovered a week later in the Connecticut River.

In Conway, rescuers fanned out for days over the heavily forested terrain that surrounds the townhouse where Hernandez lives with her mother. Police also searched by air, stopped traffic and handed out missing posters and used boats on the Saco River and Pudding Pond.

The man who confessed and pleaded guilty to the murder of a Lawrenceburg woman has changed his mind.

Terrence Cram said he confessed to the murder of Tena McNeely out of pressure and wants to take it all back.

“I never got a chance to go to trial,” he said. “This deal was forced down my throat.”

Cram claimed the murder was a mercy killing. He said McNeely begged him to kill her.

According to police, Cram was long gone when her body was found and led them on a nationwide search for her roommate.

In a four page statement, he said how he hit her repeatedly with a sledgehammer until she stopped moving.

“I don’t even remember anything like that,” Cram said. “They said they had a confession. I don’t remember doing that.”

Cram claims he left town before the murder. Police tracked him to Arizona because he used McNeely’s credit cards; evidence Cram overlooks in his quest for a new trial.

“If somebody is in here and their life is on the line, I think they should have adequate counsel and be put in front of a judge that has an open mind,” he said.

He said that the murder of McNeely needs to be resolved and authorities need to find the right person.

Cram plans to file an appeal when he is moved to his permanent prison.

Police said a Knox County couple didn’t bring a child to the hospital right away for severe burns.

It happened at a home on Shady Lane in the Dewitt community.

Sierra Shepherd and Tyrone Person are both charged with child abuse.

Shepherd said Person bathed her 2-year-old child in hot water causing the burns.

“I hope he sits here and rots and gets what he deserves for hurting my child like that,” she said.

Shepherd said she left her child with Person for a few days and when she came back, he said he gave the little boy a bath in room temperature water but when he started to dry the child off, his skin started falling off.

“I said those are second and third degree burns on my baby and I was going to take him to the emergency room but he told me not to and he threatened to hurt me if I did,” she said.

Police said Shepherd didn’t go to the hospital until the next day.

Shepherd said she understands she’s in jail for lying to police at first, saying she was the one who gave her boy a bath before telling investigators she wasn’t at home when it happened.

She is trying to pay her $25,000 bond so she can be with her son as he recovers from a skin graft operation.

“If I get out and get my kids back, I’m going to put somebody else with him and I’m not going to talk to him anymore,” Shepherd said. “I hope he rots.”

Person declined a request from jail to share his side of the story.

A Powell County family is coming back from vacation to find their home destroyed by a fire that officials are calling suspicious.

Sunday night around 10 p.m., Robin Braunlin’s home on Virden Springs Road in Clay City caught on fire. Her ex mother-in-law, Judith Curtis, says there are a few things that make this suspicious, and firefighters agree.

“The fireman said that the back door looked like it had been jarred or a crow bar had been used,” Curtis said.

And it seems some electronics were missing from the home.

“No TVs. And there was four TVs,” Curtis said.

While Curtis believes the fire was intentionally set, she says the family has been out of town on vacation since June. So it is possible someone broke into the home on an earlier date and the house accidentally caught fire Sunday night.

An arson investigator is expected to be out on the scene Tuesday.

Curtis says it’s like they are reliving a nightmare all over again, but this time it’s worse. She says a year ago, the house was also broken into while the owners were on vacation.

Lexington police say they began wrapping up a nine-month long investigation last week, focusing on illegal drug activity in the east end of downtown Lexington.

So far, police say the operation called “Operation Transformation,” has led to a total of 55 arrests, with six sealed indictments pending.

“This investigation has been essential in addressing the violence we have seen most recently,” said Police Chief Ronnie Bastin. “We find that in a majority of situations where gun violence is involved, illegal drugs have played a role.”

Mayor Jim Gray praised police for getting out in front of the problem.

“The message today is clear: Police are well trained, well equipped and well staffed … they are getting criminals and illegal drugs off the streets,” said Mayor Jim Gray.

Operation Transformation, which began last October, builds upon three previous investigations, with a focus on street-level drug trafficking. In phase one – Oct. 2013 through April 2014 – police say they made 25 arrests, mostly of people who were selling crack cocaine; and conducted 11 field interviews.

In phase two, 18 arrests were made and, with the scope of the investigation expanding, 44 field interviews were conducted. One focus of phase two was some of the businesses where drugs were being bought and sold, police said.

On July 17, officers served 11 of 17 sealed indictments that had been issued by a Grand Jury as a result of phase three of Operation Transformation. The indictments included 25 charges of first degree trafficking in a controlled substance, eight persistent felony offenders and two first degree counts of possession of a controlled substance. Police have served 11 of the indictments so far and made 13 arrests.

As a result of these several investigations over the past 2 years, police say they have made 291 arrests and seized $615,000 worth of drugs and cash.

Cleveland police are searching for a concert-goer they say disappeared from the Jason Aldean show on Friday.

According to Commander Patrick Stephens, Cory Barron, 22, of Fremont, was last seen around 9:30 p.m. near Gate A at Progressive Field.

He said Barron went to the show with family and friends, and at one point left his section to go another section. No one heard from him after that.

“In my 35 years of experience, it’s not typical that a healthy young man who has never disappeared or shown erratic behavior would be missing for this time frame,” said Stephens.

He said they checked surveillance video at the ballpark and didn’t notice anything suspicious.

Police are now looking through his social media accounts and checking his cellphone records for any clues. They’re also scouring the industrial area across from the stadium.

“We’re using the chopper to check some of these industrial areas that have rugged terrain. There’s jagged metal, old concrete and so forth that would make it tough for a person on foot to get around,” said Stephens.

Beyond that, police are also asking for the public’s help. They want anyone who may have seen Barron at the show to contact them.

Barron had on blue jeans, a Budweiser t-shirt, and a bandana. He’s 6’2” and weighs 225 pounds.
