Wrongful Death Queens Mom Admits to Suffocating Baby in Sheet

A Queens mother “callously” took a long shower as she waited for her 11-month-old son to suffocate in a bedsheet she wrapped tightly around his face and tiny body, a prosecutor said Thursday.

In a chilling confession to cops, Nicole Kelly said she watched her baby, Kiam Felix Jr., struggle to breathe inside their Elmhurst apartment before she took a 30-minute shower, according to a criminal complaint.

When she returned to the child’s room and unwrapped the sheet, he was blue and unresponsive, Kelly told police. Instead of dialing 911, she said she “cleaned out all of his stuff from the apartment and dressed him in his suit.”

“(She) callously took an extra long shower,” Assistant Queens District Attorney Brian Hughes said at Kelly’s arraignment Thursday, charging she “intentionally suffocated” her baby.

Hughes suggested that Kelly, who turned 22 on Monday, was “thinking of her birthday” while her son was suffering a cruel death Sunday just three weeks before his first birthday.

Kelly, who is being held without bail, was arraigned via video hookup from her bed at Elmhurst Hospital, where she is being held without bail and undergoing medical and psychiatric treatment.

Defense attorney Scott Bookstein entered not guilty pleas on Kelly’s behalf to charges of second-degree murder and first-degree assault.

In her confession, Kelly admitted she came unhinged under the pressure of single motherhood.

“I was taking care of my son by myself for 11 months and getting overwhelmed,” Kelly told detectives at the 110th Precinct stationhouse in Queens.

On July 6th I snapped. I decided I was done being his only caretaker. I tucked his entire body underneath the sheet to make sure he couldn’t breath.

“On July 6th I snapped. I decided I was done being his only caretaker,” she said, according to the criminal complaint. “I tucked his entire body underneath the sheet to make sure he couldn’t breathe.”

Kelly’s confession came after she initially told detectives she found Kiam not breathing when she got out of the shower and tried to perform CPR.

After several interviews, she copped to the murder, saying, “I didn’t want the child. I reached my breaking point.”

The mother “admitted that she had previously decided that she no longer wanted the baby and did not want the baby to go to foster care,” Detective Ronak Patel wrote in the criminal complaint.

The child’s father, Kiam Felix Sr., rushed the boy to Elmhurst Hospital after finding his lifeless body when he went to Kelly’s apartment about 4 p.m. Sunday.

Police believe Kelly killed the child about noon on Sunday.

Bookstein said he’s suspicious of Kelly’s confession.

“The prosecution is based exclusively on statements purportedly made by Kelly ranging over a 24-hour period,” Bookstein said, adding that Kelly had been interrogated by several detectives before allegedly confessing.

Missing Person Fort Collins, CO Man with Dementia

Nearly four days after he disappeared, a 64-year-old Fort Collins man with dementia was still missing Wednesday afternoon, police confirmed.

Officers are looking for George Gosden and following up on “any tips” that come in locally, Fort Collins Police Services spokesman Matthew Johnson said. Those at FCPS also have asked agencies within Colorado and surrounding states for assistance in the search.

Family members last saw Gosden Saturday evening at his Fort Collins home, in the 2800 block of Eastborough Drive. He and his wife, Eiko, had moved in with their son, Hiro, one of their three children.

http://liarcatchers.com/missing_persons_investigations.html

The night of the Army veteran’s disappearance, members of the Larimer County Search and Rescue Team and their search dogs were called out. FCPS sent officers on foot and in vehicles. They canvassed areas around his home; calls for help went out on social media and were shared by media outlets across the Front Range.

On Monday, a military helicopter from F.E. Warren Air Force base near Cheyenne, Wyoming, helped in the search, flying above Fort Collins and surrounding communities.

The approximate cost for the two-hour flight is $4,000. Though Lt. Christen Ornella noted: “this mission was accomplished at no additional cost to the government as we were able to redirect planned training sortie to this real-world SAR (search-and-rescue) mission.”

Johnson told the Coloradoan previously it’s unusual for a person to go missing this long; typically, he said, people are found within a “relatively short period of time.” Asked Wednesday at what point the police agency would start scaling back resources, if at all, Johnson said: “That is a very difficult question for me to answer. Because of the number of variables in an investigation like this one, I don’t have any insight on what the future will hold.

“We don’t have a point where we stop working on the case, we continue to work at it as long as there are reasonable avenues of investigation which are available to us and while our efforts bear a plausible expectation of success.”

On the Facebook page “Find George Gosden,” family members gave tips to those who asked how best to interact with Gosden, should they find him. They said Gosden is most comfortable talking about his military background and may not fully respond to someone calling his name.

They suggested speaking softly and calmly.

Have information about George Gosden’s disappearance?

Those with information that may help police locate Gosden should contact Fort Collins Police Services at (970) 221-6540. Detective Jim Lenderts is the lead investigator in the case.

Wrongful Death Body of 3 Year Old Found Buried in Backyard of Thatcher, AZ Home

The body of a 3-year-old girl was found buried in a backyard and police say the child may have been missing for two years.

Thatcher Police investigators say this started when two children were found alone in a hotel near Safford.  One of the children told a worker with the Arizona Department of Child Safety about a sister, who went missing in 2012.

That led investigators to a home’s backyard on 1st Street where a girl’s body was discovered and exhumed. The girl was found inside a plastic container that has been sealed, investigators have not opened the container.

http://liarcatchers.com/wrongful_death.html

Barbara White lives at the home now and says they found the body between the two homes and buried six feet under.

The Pima County Medical Examiner’s office is now working to identify the body.

The mother and boyfriend of the children found alone in the hotel are now being called persons of interest in the case.  Anna Marie Sanchez and Joshua Cisneros are currently in jail on unrelated charges.

Authorities say the case is being handled as a potential homicide and is still under investigation. A spokesperson with the Thatcher Police Department said he could not recall when they last had a homicide in the town but it had been a long time.
