Wrongful Death Man Charged in Cold Case Murder Could Face Death Penalty

A man charged in a decade-old cold case murder may face the death penalty.

The Carlisle Mercury says the death penalty will be sought against Shawn Fryman, who was indicted in the 2003 murder of David Sadler in Nicholas County.

Sadler’s wife, Brenda, and his son, found him dead from a single gunshot wound inside their home. Brenda says Fryman was her husband’s best friend.

Investigators said Fryman had always been a person of interest in the case and that it was talking that lead to new interviews, more information and new evidence until they finally had enough for an arrest.

Fryman was arrested in February of this year in the case. Josh Abnee has also been charged in connection with Sadler’s death.

Insurance Fraud Woman Arrested in Sandusky, OH

A Sandusky woman was indicted for her alleged role in a fraudulent automobile insurance claim scene.

Chastity Hodgkinson, 24, of the 900 block of Perry St., was indicted and arrested last month on charges of complicity to commit insurance fraud, complicity to obstruction and perjury.

Hodgkinson allegedly helped stage a May 16, 2013 car accident in the parking lot of the New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church on Shelby Street, Erie County prosecutor Kevin Baxter said.

http://liarcatchers.com/insurance_fraud.html

Hodgkinson and one man allegedly conspired in the crash: they drove a vehicle into two parked motorcycles, officials said.

Those motorcycles belonged to a second man, and it was his insurance company, Geico, that caught on to the group’s scheme.

According to Baxter and Erie County assistant prosecutor Aaron Lindsey, Geico had received an excessive amount of claims from the motorcycle-owner.

That ultimately led investigators back to Hodgkinson, as she was the driver operating the vehicle in the May 2013 crash, Baxter said.

Had the group succeeded in their scam, the insurance pay-out for the bikes would have totaled about $4,600. Meanwhile, the vehicle damage was valued at $1,300.

Hodgkinson’s legal troubles deepened a few months after the crash, in July 2013. She testified under oath at the Erie County Law Library regarding the validity of the insurance claim, Baxter said.

The two other men involved—the bike owner and the one who allegedly helped Hodgkinson execute the crash—have not been charged or arrested in the case.

Hodgkinson is being held at the Erie County jail on $25,000 bond.

Missing Person 17 Year Old From Camas, WA

A 17-year-old teenager who left an ominous note in her Camas home and then vanished has sparked a missing-person case that’s attracted national attention.

Angelic “Anji” Tracy Dean disappeared after leaving a note that said if she was found, she was likely in trouble or dead. She vanished June 23 after sending a text message to her boyfriend, saying she’s been involved in a situation for a while and the people were going to kill him, her family and everyone she loves.

When Dean’s boyfriend didn’t text back, Dean phoned him but he didn’t answer, said Lynda Jorgensen, Dean’s mother.

http://liarcatchers.com/missing_persons_investigations.html

Later that night, between 9 and 10:30 p.m., Dean quietly slipped out of her home near Southeast 192nd Avenue in Camas.

She’s not been seen or heard from since and authorities are afraid she may have become a victim of sex traffickers.

Her family later found a spiral notebook tucked into a binder under her bed. In a note dated June 5, Dean wrote: “If you’re reading this, I’m probably missing. … I’m not missing because I hate you … When or if you find me … I’ll be all used up or dead. Meth addict, heroin too just so I can get through all the pain.”

Jorgensen said Dean, a junior at Camas High School, had never run away before. She left her wallet, bank card, makeup and glasses, which she needs to see close up and far away. The family also discovered she had a cell phone they didn’t know about and was using a special app to send text messages, making them more difficult to trace.

“She was involved with some bad people,” Jorgensen said, “doing things she didn’t want to do.”

She had hinted to her parents last year that she was having problems but was never specific about it, Jorgensen said, only revealing a few details to her counselor.

“It wasn’t until this last month she was much more specific, but she wasn’t specific enough for it to be followed up on,” Jorgensen said.

The family is frantic.

“It’s really scary,” Jorgensen said. “The few bread crumbs that we have are not much but they’re frightening.”

Jorgensen said Dean, her oldest of four children, appeared to be on a good path. She had competed as a cheerleader, participated in the Clark County Explorer program and planned to become a cadet. She was almost fluent in American Sign Language, has a flair for drawing and a beautiful singing voice.

When she indicated she was having problems, her parents found her a counselor. They figured she was just depressed.

“The fact that she has been telling folks, everybody feels awful at this point,” said Michelle Bart, president of the National Women’s Coalition Against Violence and Exploitation in Vancouver.

The case has been turned over to the Clark County Sheriff’s Office, with Detective Scott Kirgiss investigating tips. He can be reached at 360-397-2028. A Facebook page has been set up as well, with supporters asking people to share links and tweet, using the hashtag #AnjiDean.

Bart said law enforcement suspects she is still in the Portland area, based on tips.

Police are looking for a man, 25 to 35 with a goatee, who dropped Dean off at her home the afternoon of June 23. A neighbor spotted the car, an older, rectangular light-blue Volvo that was full of people. The neighbor said the driver noticed he was being watched and drove out of the area going the other way.

Dean, who turned 17 on June 2, is 5-feet-6, with brown hair, blue eyes and pierced ears. She has a small birthmark on the back of one of her calves. She was last seen wearing black, mid-calf length tights, a black tank top and white Nike tennis shoes with light-green soles. She may have a white backpack.

A Vigil of Hope will be held Sunday at 7 p.m. at Homestead Park at Southeast 160th Avenue and 18th Street in Vancouver.

Friends, family and supporters will be there.

“We just want her home,” Jorgensen said. “We just want her safe.”

Identity Theft Two Charged in Hickory, NC

30-year-old Laura Christina Dayton and 35-year-old Jeffrey Lynn Mays, Jr., both of 1st Avenue S.W. in Hickory, were arrested by Hickory Police at about 5:30 p.m. Saturday (July 5). Dayton was charged with one felony count of obtaining property by false pretense and four felony counts of identity theft. Mays faces two felony counts of larceny and one misdemeanor count of larceny.

They were arrested after a 35-year-old Claremont woman reported that someone had tried to open a credit line on June 26 at Ashley Home Furnishings using the victim’s personal information. The victim’s bank also notified her of fraudulent activity on her account. Previously, on June 20, the victim reported that her vehicle was broken into and her purse was stolen. The Catawba Co. Sheriff’s Office responded to that incident.

http://liarcatchers.com/identity_theft_investigation.html

The clerk at the furniture store told Police a white male and a white female had come in to open the credit line, but didn’t purchase anything. The victim told Officers that she suspected Jeffrey Mays might be the male suspect. She said her brother had previously been involved in similar criminal activity with Mays.

The clerk then identified Mays as the suspect in a photo line-up. Police also reviewed surveillance footage from Home Depot where someone purchased a pressure washer after activating a Home Depot credit card using the victim’s personal information. From that footage, Investigators were able to identify Mays and the female suspect, Laura Dayton.

Both were taken into custody without incident and placed in the Catawba Co. Detention Facility. Bond for Dayton was set at $53,000, secured, while Mays was given a $43,000 secured bond. First appearances in District Court were set for today (July 7) in Newton.

Wrongful Death Hearing Delayed for Paster Accused in Triple Murder

A hearing for a pastor accused in a high profile triple murder in Boyle County has been postponed since his attorney was gunned down last month.

Kenneth Allen Keith was scheduled to show up to court Tuesday, but the death of his attorney, Mark Stanziano, has postponed the hearing. Now, the mother of one of the alleged victims is worried how the lawyer’s death could delay the whole process.

“I just wonder how far back it’s gonna push this,” said Barbara Lewis, the mother of Mike Hockensmith.

http://liarcatchers.com/wrongful_death.html

It’s the first thought that raced through Barbara Lewis’ mind late last month when she learned Mark Stanziano had been murdered in front of his Pulaski County law office. Stanziano was representing Kenneth Keith – the pastor accused of gunning down Lewis’ son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Angela Hockensmith, along with a client, Daniel Smith, last September inside of the couple’s Danville business.

“We were supposed to be in court today and everything was supposed to get started and now it’s not,” Lewis said.

A status hearing planned Tuesday afternoon for pastor Keith was postponed until Aug. 4.

“Until he has an attorney, there’s nothing that can be done. They can’t do anything until he’s got an attorney,” Lewis said.

With many questions about the future of the case, Lewis does want to make it clear her thought’s are with Stanizano’s family. Especially because, she says, they are now tied together in tragedy.

“He didn’t deserve to be gunned down. He really didn’t. His family’s just gonna have a hard time dealing with it just like I’ve had a hard time dealing with it,” Lewis said. “I know they feel like he didn’t deserve it anymore than my son did. I mean I didn’t have to like his lawyer, but I didn’t want this to happen to him either.”

Arson Investigation Lincoln County Man Accused in Two Cases

A man suspected of setting two homes on fire in Lincoln County was arrested Monday night.

http://liarcatchers.com/arson_investigation.html

Deputies believe Cook is the person who started the fire that also destroyed Donald Taylor’s house on July 2.

Cook has been charged with arson and wanton endangerment, and is scheduled to go to court on Thursday.
