Arson Investigation Sacramento County Fireworks Stand and Church

A fireworks stand burned to the ground, then a nearby church caught fire in two incidents investigators believe are connected.

Members of the Hmong New Life Church got a late start restocking their booth after their stand caught fire overnight.

Cellphone pictures show the destruction along Del Paso Boulevard that fire investigators believe was the work of an arsonist.

http://liarcatchers.com/arson_investigation.html

“Luckily the fireworks stand did not have any fireworks inside of it,” said Roberto Padilla with Sacramento City Fire.

Pastor Fred Xiong is baffled why this would happen, and says the loss of time means much-needed sales have vanished.

“I really wish I could tell you how this could happen. I wish I knew,” he said. “This is really huge for us. Really huge for our church especially for the youth as we need to do fundraising for them.”

The fireworks stand wasn’t the only fire on Wednesday night. Blocks away, investigators believe another was intentionally set at the Calvary Christian Center.

“A portion of the inside of the church that was on fire. No major damage but the investigation is ongoing,” Padilla said.

Fire officials say since the fires were set only 20 minutes apart, and because neither had electrical issues, they believe an arsonist is the likely cause.

Missing Person Wife of Memphis Man Continues to Search for Husband

The wife of a Memphis man who vanished 10 months ago after leaving home to take an afternoon walk is keeping up a vigil hoping for his return, but also facing the idea that he may be gone forever.

The family of 72-year-old John Hudak is offering a $2,000 reward for information leading to his whereabouts

http://liarcatchers.com/missing_persons_investigations.html

Joyce Hudak told The Commercial Appeal (http://bit.ly/TVmYt0 ) that, before he disappeared, her husband “was not himself anymore” because of illnesses, but his mind was still in good order.

John Hudak was last seen by family members on Sept. 13, carrying only his wallet.

At first, Joyce Hudak thought her husband could have gone to Florida, where they just visited to look at homes. They were planning on moving closer to their children. Or maybe, she thought, he went to New Orleans. He liked it there. He left with only his wallet, not even a cellphone.

“But, since the day he left he hasn’t spent a penny,” she said. “I can’t figure out how he is living with no money.”

Two family members have given DNA samples to police for comparisons, should they be necessary.

The Memphis Police Department investigates cases of missing adults — and immediately submits them to NCIC — when their disappearance is reported as unusual behavior, said Memphis Police Lt. Cindy Capps of the missing persons bureau. They also collect DNA samples from the missing person’s two closest relatives and submit it to the FBI’s Combined DNA Index System, which is linked to the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System.

“We listen to the families, friends, and roommates. When a person breaks a normal routine we investigate. If you are a normal everyday adult living in a metropolitan area and go missing, there’s a good chance you have met your demise,” Capps said. “With the Hudak case, we are all worried, but in the original report it alluded that he was angry with her. He threatened he was leaving and wasn’t coming back.”

The Memphis Police Department reported 995 missing person cases in 2012 and 1,113 cases in 2013, Capps said.

Joyce Hudak said not a day goes by that she isn’t tormented with the mystery of her husband’s disappearance.

“If my mind’s not occupied doing something, I think about it constantly,” she said. “I’m trying to get outside, run, and I just joined a book club.”
