Private Investigator Madison County Man Needs Help Finding Sentimental Cane

A Madison County man lost his cane at a Walmart and needs help because it’s not the money spent on the cane, but the sentimental value that makes it priceless.

It resembles an average cane but to Silas Keen it means the world.

“It’s not the cane. I mean I’ve got canes around here. It’s not that, it’s just what it means to me,” he said.

Keen’s late wife Allene bought it for him during a time when both of their health were deteriorating.

She returned the $5 one he was given and spent $25 on a shiny blue metallic cane. It was the last thing she ever gave him.

It was at the Walmart in Berea where Keen said he put his cane in the shopping cart and forgot it. When he went back, it was gone.

“I would love for someone to find it in their heart to bring it back. Like I say, it’s the sentimental value. It’s the last thing momma gave him,” daughter Sarah Powell said.

They were shopping for Keen’s birthday dinner. He said to have his cane back would be the best gift of all.

They were married for 69 years, he said the best years of his life.

“She was in dying condition herself, no hope for her and we knew she was going to die. She was so concerned about my health, she wanted me to have that cane and to me it means more to me than anyone else,” Keen said.

Fraud Investigation Blue Grass Energy Warns of SCAM

Blue Grass Energy is warning its customers of a prepaid debit card scam targeting their customers.

The company says perpetrators are calling customers posing as an employee of Blue Grass Energy and saying that service will be disconnected immediately if a payment is not made on their account, which the caller claims is past due.

The caller then instructs the customer to purchase a prepaid debit card and call back with the information to process a payment.

Blue Grass Energy says they will never require customers to pay with a prepaid debit card. Customers may, however, make payments on their account in that form, but will never be required to do so.

The company urges customers to watch for high-pressure tactics, such as a sudden threat to disconnect service unless a payment is made. They say Blue Grass Energy will make multiple contacts about an overdue bill before issuing a final written notice.

If you are suspicious, contact Blue Grass Energy at 888-546-4243. The company says not to use the number that appears on the caller ID when scammers call, and report the scam attempt to the Kentucky State Police at 1-800-222-5555.

Screenshot of Matthew John Coniglio Seeking Information Poster

The FBI is asking for the public’s help to identify victims of suspected serial child predator Matthew John Coniglio. His female victims—some as young as 8 years old—may be unaware of what happened to them.

Coniglio, who committed suicide on April 20, 2014 following his arrest on child pornography charges, is known to have resided in Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina over the past 15 years.

http://liarcatchers.com/pedophile_tracking.html

Videotaped evidence seized at the time of his arrest suggests that Coniglio drugged multiple young females who he subsequently molested and raped. At this point in the investigation, photographed victims are being identified and notified. Those who believe they may have been victims are encouraged to come forward—not only to aid investigators but potentially to seek services through our Victim Assistance Program.

A confidential questionnaire is available for anyone who thinks they may have been victimized by Coniglio or who may have information about his predatory behavior.

Private Investigator, Restaurant Owner Files For Guilty Plea In Human Trafficking

A man accused of harboring undocumented Indian nationals in his Subway restaurants has asked for a motion to plead guilty.

According to the Herald-Leader, Amrutlal Patel filed the documents on Monday.

He and his wife, Dakshaben Patel, were charged in 2013 with four counts of aiding and abetting undocumented immigrants and paying them below minimum wage, among other charges.

http://liarcatchers.com/contact.php

The Patels were freed on bond and are living at home under strict restrictions on travel and outside contact. They were arrested in November 2013 when authorities raided the Patels’ home and the Subway restaurant on East Main Street – one of at least three Lexington restaurants co-owned by Amrutlal Patel and a relative.

According to U.S. District Court records, the investigation began in August 2013 after an employee at Subway filed a report with Lexington police about some “bad things” happening to his coworkers.

The unidentified witness “provided information that Amrutlal Patel and his wife Dakshaben Patel and others known and unknown are ‘forcing’ four undocumented Indian citizens to work, and housing some of them in a hidden room located in the couple’s home,” the affidavit said.

The witness told police an undocumented worker named “Danny” had asked him to go to authorities because he and other undocumented employees were allegedly being mistreated.

Danny told the witness that he could not go to the police himself because he was being monitored by the Patels, according to court documents. Danny said he and three others were forced to live in a secret room behind the wall of the Patel’s basement bathroom, and that the Patels sometimes withheld food from them and hit them, the records said.

Danny also asked the witness to wire $1,000 to a relative in India, which the witness did, the documents said. Danny said he and another employee were in debt to the Patels for tens of thousands of dollars for their trips to the United States.

Police began conducting undercover surveillance on several of the Subway locations to determine the identities of the people who worked there. Several times, officers conducted traffic stops on the owners and employees as they came and went.

On Oct. 9, an officer pulled over a moped carrying one of the employees who allegedly lived at the Patel’s Ellerslie Park Boulevard home. When the officer asked the employee who the moped belonged to, he replied “my owners,” according to court documents.

Authorities executed search warrants at the Patel’s home and stores, hauling out boxes of evidence and taking several people into custody.

When police raided the Patel’s home, Danny was in an upstairs bedroom. He denied to police he had been mistreated, the document said.

Fraud Investigation KY Labor Cabinet Warns Businesses of Poster Scam

Companies across the country are targeting businesses and trying to sell them labor posters that are actually free.

Kentucky law requires labor guidelines to be posted in plain sight in businesses. Some companies have been trying to sell these posters, that are actually free, to businesses. It’s not illegal, and it’s not necessarily a scam, but some might call it unethical business.

http://liarcatchers.com/fraud_investigation.html

“We have been flooded with phone calls from employers asking about this,” said Daniel Lowry with the Kentucky Labor Cabinet. “You never have to buy the posters. Ever.”

Administrators take about two to three calls a week from business owners who’ve forked out anywhere from $60-$300 for the posters.

“It’s awful. I mean, if you can get something for free, why not?,” said Harriet Coomer, cabinet administrator.

The pitch to sell the posters is often posed as a threat. The caller lets business owners know that fines of up to $17,000 could be issued if up-to-date labor posters aren’t up. In reality, there could be a fine, but they’d be much smaller; anywhere from $100 – $1,000 per violation. And the posters haven’t been updated since 2009.

“Definitely, it is scary to see 17 grand. I could have to pay that? So, they’ll pay the $300 or whatever to get the posters,” Lowry said.

If you or your company has purchased posters, you can report the matter to the attorney general’s office. And to get the free posters and avoid any potential fines, contact the Kentucky Labor Cabinet.
