Officials say 38-year-old Gavin Thompson was shot during a fight at his home on Highway 1275 North with 21-year-old Ian T. Miller, of Elmira, New York.

The coroner said Thompson was shot an undetermined number of times.

Thompson’s body was taken to the State Medical Examiner facility in Frankfort where an autopsy will be performed and toxicology samples taken to ascertain if alcohol or drugs may have played a role in his death.

No arrest has been made at this time and the investigation is continuing, officials said.

Officials say Thompson has family in Rowan County and some in West Virginia. The coroner said he has notified them of his passing.

Missing Person Relisha Rudd of Washington DC, Still Missing

Relisha Rudd’s disappearance was once measured in days. The days have stretched into weeks, and now nearly two months. But volunteers gathered Saturday unwilling to give up the hope that she might return home.

More than two dozen searchers fanned out across four locations in Northeast and Southeast Washington, clutching fliers with a now ubiquitous black and white image of the missing 8-year-old D.C. girl wearing braids.

http://liarcatchers.com/missing_persons_investigations.html

Even though authorities fear that the girl is dead and the story has faded from the front pages, the mothers, fathers, pastors and community activists who came together Saturday said they remain determined.

“It really touches my heart that she’s missing,” said De’An Owens, a Southeast Washington mother of an 11-year-old girl. “We’re not going to give up hope. We have the spirit of faith to believe that she is out there alive.”

Searchers went door to door in neighborhoods near the homeless shelter at the old D.C. General Hospital, where Relisha lived with her mother before she disappeared. They also handed out fliers near the National Arboretum, River Terrace, and the Kenilworth Park and Aquatic Gardens, where the body of Kahlil Tatum, who authorities believe abducted her, was found March 31. He died of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Relisha was last in the custody of her family Feb. 26. Tatum, who worked at the shelter and had brought the girl to his house in the past, took her that day. Relisha’s mother, Shamika Young, never reported her missing, and police did not begin an investigation until weeks later.

On March 19, a school counselor investigating Relisha’s absences contacted Tatum, who was listed in records as her doctor. Tatum quickly left the shelter when the counselor tried to meet with him.

On March 20, authorities issued an Amber Alert for Relisha, saying she might be in the company of Tatum. The same day, police found Tatum’s wife dead of a gunshot wound in an Oxon Hill motel room.

Police have said Relisha may have been long dead by then — Tatum was last seen with the girl March 1. On March 2, police said Tatum bought large trash bags and was seen in Kenilworth Park.

Police and volunteers exhaustively combed the 700-acre park at the end of March but did not discover any sign of Relisha after finding Tatum’s body in a shed.

Last week, D.C. Police Chief Cathy L. Lanier said few clues have emerged about Relisha’s whereabouts, repeating a line she has often used in the case: “We fear for the worst, but we hope for the best.”

D.C. Mayor Vincent C. Gray has ordered a review of how city agencies handled Relisha’s case.

On Saturday, the searchers gathered at 4 p.m. at an entrance to the National Arboretum, close to one of the last sightings of Relisha at a Holiday Inn Express off New York Avenue NE.

They linked hands and bowed their heads.

“Father God, we pray that you work a miracle,” said Martha J. Collins, pastor of For Gods Glory and My Good Ministries in Northeast Washington. “Use every vessel on this Earth to bring her home.”

Trayon White, a D.C. parks department supervisor who knew Relisha, organized the search with a number of community groups. It was the third canvass they have put together.

White said their aim was to keep the “pressure” on the news media and city officials to keep Relisha in people’s minds.

Afterward, a small group made their way up and down front walks in the neighborhood near the arboretum. They dropped off fliers and talked with residents about Relisha.

After knocking on dozens of doors, they made their way up Bladensburg Road NE with posters of the girl. One volunteer used a bullhorn to capture drivers’ attention.

“Relisha Rudd! 8 years old!” she shouted. “Last seen in this area!”

Pedophile Tracking Houston County, GA Man Sentenced

A Houston County man convicted of molesting three young girls was sentenced to 25 years in prison without the possibility of parole and life on probation Friday.

Tevin Carroll was convicted of three counts of aggravated child molestation on April 11th after a three-day trial, according to a news release from District Attorney George Hartwig.

Carroll must register as a sex offender for the rest of his life. He is also not allowed to have contact with the victims.

Prosecutor Mark Anthony said the victims were 7, 5 and 4 year-old girls. He would not comment on Carroll’s connection to the girls.

http://liarcatchers.com/pedophile_tracking.html

Assistant district attorney Mark Anthony said in a news release, “The graphic nature of the abuse and the fact that it had been occurring over a long period of time, couple with the young age of the children, made this case especially hart wrenching. I am grateful that the jury was able to determine what had been taking place, and that these children are finally safe from this predator.”

District attorney George Hartwig commented that, “The Houston District Attorney’s office places the highest priority on protecting the children in our community. We will aggressively prosecute cases where the evidence points to sexual abuse of minors, and offenders need to be on notice that the consequences to convictions of this type will be severe.”

Missing Person Victoria Prokopovitz of Pittsfield, Wis.

Much has changed since Victoria Prokopovitz vanished a year ago, but one constant remains: Her family is determined to find out what happened to her.

Police and volunteers searching the area around her Pittsfield home have found no sign of the 60-year-old grandmother, who disappeared the night of April 25, 2013.

Family members and friends plan a candlelight vigil and other events this week to mark the one-year anniversary of her disappearance — and of their painstaking search for answers. Family and friends are embarking on the second year by doubling their efforts to uncover the truth.

http://liarcatchers.com/missing_persons_investigations.html

“I can’t sit back and just do nothing,” daughter Marsha Loritz said. “I need to find my mom.”

Prokopovitz, who vanished from her home without taking any money, identification or vehicle, has a history of mental health issues and past suicide attempts.Without evidence of her condition or whereabouts, police are stumped about whether there has been foul play or if there is another explanation.

“It’s one of those frustrating cases,” Brown County Sheriff John Gossage said. “We just don’t know.”

Prokopovitz, who lives with her husband and an adult son, was last seen the night of April 25, 2013, at her home in the 5100 block of Kunesh Road in Pittsfield. Family reported her missing the next morning when they discovered she was gone.

Searchers have scoured nearby fields, wooded areas and a quarry several times.

Sherri Jo Lucas, president of the volunteer group Rapid Search and Rescue, said she has come to believe that someone has information about Prokopovitz’s whereabouts and is not coming forward. If Prokopovitz had just wandered away by herself, Lucas said searchers would have recovered some evidence by now.

“We’ve just been there and been there and been there,” she said. “We’ve looked everywhere.”

Family members say Prokopovitz did not have access to a vehicle at the time of her disappearance.

A reward for information about her whereabouts is increasing from $1,000 to $2,500 because of donations. Family members also have hung posters, created websites, distributed wristbands and sent countless emails asking for help.

Their next move may be hiring a private investigator.

Stacy Deer, the missing woman’s other daughter, said she hopes the one-year anniversary will cause people to think again about whether they have seen Prokopovitz or whether they can remember any clues from past conversations with her.

Deer admitted she is starting to lose hope that the family will ever solve the mystery.

“There are all these questions we don’t have answers for,” she said. “I don’t know where else to go from here.”

The family has received support and assistance from a growing network of friends, some of whom have become just as obsessed as the family with uncovering the truth.

“It just breaks my heart every day,” said Rhonda Schmidt, a family friend from Pulaski.

At the Rite Place restaurant in Bellevue, owner Julie VanRite has hung posters, distributed fliers and helped with fundraisers. A longtime family friend, VanRite said people in the community are eager to help when they realize that Prokopovitz is missing and that the search has been going on for a year.

“It’s hard enough having a parent gone, but not knowing where they are out there,” VanRite said. “Let’s just try to find her and bring her home.”

Missing Person Dustin Carver of Kansas, OK

The conclusion of the hunt on Friday for Dustin Carver’s possible remains in Twin Oaks was bittersweet for the family of the 20-year-old.

A missing persons report filed with the Kansas Police Department on March 21, claims Carver has not been seen in the Kansas area since March 3.

Officers with the Kansas PD have been searching for him since that time.

http://liarcatchers.com/missing_persons_investigations.html

According to KPD Sargent Kyle Mullen, Carver’s girlfriend, Krista Glass, flagged down fellow officer Jessie Blackfox to tell him she was concerned about Carver’s non-communication with her.

“She wasn’t so concerned about his absence, but was concerned that he had not contacted her since March 3,” said Mullen.

According to Mullen, Glass reported Carver left her home at 10:30 p.m. on March 3 and got in a pickup with two men. She could not recognize the men or the truck in the dark. She hasn’t heard from him since.

“We have talked to family members and friends and no one has heard from him,” said Mullen.

An investigation into Carver’s past reveals that there is an arrest warrant sworn out against him on a misdemeanor charge in Delaware County.

“We’re not concerned about the warrant at this time, we’re just concerned about his safety. We need to hear that he’s alright,” Mullen said.

Delaware County Sheriff Harlan Moore confirmed Friday that James Larson continues to be a person of interest in the disappearance of Carver.

Persons with information concerning the whereabouts of Carver may contact Mullen at 918-314-3075.
